View Full Version : Toad's Tool 64 0.3 Beta Released!

This is the Super Mario 64 editor that has been in the works for a while.

You need to get a Super Mario 64 ROM, and then use his ROM Extender:

The levels look really pretty in his editor, although I don't think it supports picking (clicking on an object and selecting it). On quick playing around I didn't manage to change anything around to another object, but it should allow users to make pretty simple but fun edits of levels. It's progress on the N64 front. Give it a whirl, he's done a lot of great things here.

This looks interesting I'll have to give it a whirl when I have some free time. Thanks for posting the info and links.

I've been trying it out the past few days (quick note: v0.3b has been released). It's pretty easy to use once you know where everything is.

Though, PJ64 refuses to run it and 1964 keeps freezing once I start it up (as in the emulator, not the backup).

It does, as I did it when I was first using it. Once I upgraded it to v0.3 I couldn't it again (though, I don't really know how I did it in the first place ^_^ ).

Aww, I wanted to make the topic about this.

Anyways, once you're done with the whole "move stuff around to cause glitches" stage, you can really make some good level challenges. I've changed most of the goals in Bob-omb Battlefield completely.

VL-Tone, the legendary Super Mario 64 hacker has released a beta version of Toad's Tool 64, his Macromedia Flash-based Mario 64 level editor! I myself haven't tried it out, I was very busy at the time I was informed about its release. I will try it as soon as I can, but you can download it at VL-Tone's official blog (http://web.mac.com/qubedstudios/iWeb/Site/Blog/Blog.html).

Will the extender work on the Super Mario 64 Shindou Edition ROM? It's the only one I have...

27th June 2007, 03:00 PM
Try it and see what happens. I don't think it will though...

27th June 2007, 03:07 PM
>_> Does anybody have the file sizes on the extender and the program itself?

27th June 2007, 05:21 PM
Toad's Tool is roughly 7MB [compressed] (It's like 6.7MB but I like rounding). The extender program is 2.5MB [compressed]. They're not too large altogether, unless you've got a modem.

If the reason you're asking this is because you've got a slow downlaod speed, I can pack both of them into a single *.7zip file (it does über file compression) and ship 'em to 'ya.

Sure. Can you? I have dial-up. >_<

27th June 2007, 05:46 PM
You need my email?

27th June 2007, 07:53 PM
Oops, you already posted this, Subdrag? Sorry, I didn't see it.
And not to be mean or anything, but you can download about 10MB over dial-up, can't you, kyledude? I'm not sure if I'm just weird or something, but I've download 30MB files over dial-up before.

28th June 2007, 12:39 PM
Yeah, but it takes like two hours, and I only get 20 hours per month. I'm already an hour over.

You might have to go to the library and download this one. Bring a usb stick or something like that, if they have can support it, or a disc or span disks or something.

Unless Zeek follows through on his offer... I can spare a few minutes. I'll probably end up needing the NTSC ROM anyways, and I can't find one. >_<

I hope this tool gets updates because it kinda sux now for you cannot edit clipping on the 3 bowser levels

those are the best candidates for custom levels but the tool doesnt edit that correctly yet

28th June 2007, 07:10 PM
Give me a second, I'll have them 7zipped up. (Will edit post)

Make sure of course you do have 7zip. :)

EDIT: Nevermind, it is a self-extracting archive (Don't even know how I made it do that but, o well). I've uploaded it onto MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com/?d0n02jgpwri) (you can use Download managers, it says).

Again, it is a self-extract 7zip EXE file.

The file size is about 5.81MB (3 MBs less than the two combined). Hope this eases your downloading pain on dailup :o .

XD 3 minutes after I get all of them. i went to my grandma's and burned them onto a disk. I think i found the ROM too. If it says (U) it means it's NTSC, right?

Yep, that's the ROM you're looking for.

28th June 2007, 08:47 PM
Cool. That was hard to find.

29th June 2007, 04:40 PM
Cool. That was hard to find.
Yes, it took me a VERY long time to find ROMs as well. It's nice once you have a collection of the ones you need, then you never have to worry about looking for them again.

29th June 2007, 05:24 PM
Yeah... TT64 doesn't save the changes though. >_< I don't know why.

29th June 2007, 05:40 PM
It doesn't save changes to what?

29th June 2007, 05:43 PM
The levels. The "launch ROM" button doesn't work either...

30th June 2007, 01:07 AM
Yea the launch ROM button doesnt work for me either..I just hit save and open it with PJ64 and it works fine.

19th July 2007, 12:15 AM
Whoa this is actually pretty fun to use, to bad you can't add any object , but you can still change objects already in the level into the set object of the editing level which is still nice.

19th July 2007, 02:05 AM
Wow, I guess the "Launch ROM" button isn't working for other people too. I wonder if it's the program or if we didn't do something right.

19th July 2007, 02:17 AM
worx for me did you setup an emu?

It won't load if you don't expand the ROM first.

22nd July 2007, 12:39 AM
yea you gotta expand the rom
