View Full Version : The future of Banjo...

Fellow Banjo Fans,
Let's face it, the banjo community is dying. For several years now, sites have just been running out of energy, and slowly shutting down. Due to a shortage of new Banjo games, and the distinct lack of finished fan-projects, many people have lost interest. Due to the distinct lack of news, very few, if any new sites have been formed, and those have quickly died out. The sad situation today is there are only a handfull of banjo sites alive, compared to a multitude of corpses littering the internet. Everything started out so wonderfull, so hopefull, so full of possibilities. But the banjo community is now only a short while away from becoming completely dead.
Does it have to be that way? Sure, Rare is taking its sweet time to release new banjo-oriented games. How can a site based around a videogame survive, if there are no sequels released, if there is no official news? But all is not necessarily lost. Remember good old BKPC, and the sequel, BKPC2? They took on a life of their own, a life beyond the intermittent games released by Rare. There is a way to go on, to continue. So, the question is, do we want to continue? Do we want to go on in the hopes of creating great masterpieces, of writing, of music, of programming, of games, of anything at all, dedicated to that awsome and incredible game by the name of Banjo-Kazooie?
The future of Banjo is currently unknown. Do we give up? Do we go on? If we do, what do we do? These questions, and more must be decided, and decided soon. So, if you care at all about the future of Banjo, come to a discussion on Saturday, November 27th, 2004 at 1 PM EST, on IRC in channel #banjofuture on freenode.org ( if you don't have an irc client, get mIRC at www.mirc.com (http://www.mirc.com) ). Come one, come all, for the future of banjo must, and will be decided once and for all. Be there... but if you can't, e-mail GameMaster251 at gamemaster251@sympatico.ca (mailto:gamemaster251@sympatico.ca)

(1) So, the question is, do we want to continue? Do we want to go on in the hopes of creating great masterpieces, of writing, of (2) music, of (3) programming, of (4) games, of anything at all, dedicated to that awsome and incredible game by the name of Banjo-Kazooie?
1) I think some people do, but some people have kind of moved on from the series, and aren't as fanatically obsessed about it as they used to be. Some people may also want to go on, but don't necessarily feel like putting their time and energy into it (or, due to real life, they can't; let's face it - most of the Banjo fans have grown up).
2) There's a BK remix project at OverClocked Remix, but most everyone else seems to not make Banjo-related music much anymore.
3) Doesn't sound like it, aside from the people who make fan games.
4) See above.
I may sound pessimistic, but the future is really looking like the harsh reality I've implied.

banjo wont die, not so easily, we can still hope for the success of banjo pilot, or for a banjo DS.
while it is true, most banjo communities are dead, dying or not just banjo oriented, we need to stay strong.

I come here looking to talk about Banjo but new stuff not the SnS theories etc. I also come here to talk with my Internet friends. If I didn't i'd be one sad little 17 yr old watching TV all day.
All I do now is go to school, do homework, watch TV and come here.... sometime all 4 at once. I got 9 weeks holiday at the end of this week and if there was no RWP what does that leave?... The TV!

Well just because they're dying and crap doesn't mean that there will be no Banjo games in the future, They started out with an unknown franchise, who knows, perhaps they'll take a great gamble and make another brilliant game, after all, you'd expect it to sell better nowadays because of a more popular console and greater awareness.

Bah, there's still a place for Banjo in my heart. No, really, there is, and it's painful and blocking the blood flow in my body. Someone call a doctor!
Falls over
But seriously, though, I would go only it turns out that I have to be somewhere that one day. I am a little confused though; so, like, a bunch of people are just going to gather around and decide if they should all just shut up about Banjo?

Since my GCN bust, the only thing I ever do while gaming now is looking for secrets in BK and CBFD, with my action replay...
Never very successfully either >_>

Errr... it was a lot clearer before I posted it, I swear! I just put that stuff about quitting in to... uh, round off the message. Nobody should give up or anything, that's not what we're trying to say. Rather, the whole thing is more about getting people together to talk about and decide what happens next in the world of banjo (ie. does anyone want to start new sites/fangames/fanfics/fanmusic, how these things will work, etc.), seeing as it is not doing so well and all...

I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the issue. I mean, BK and BT are great games, and the Banjo universe still has enough juice in it to continue. I'm sure Rare are working on some idea.
I think the real reason here is that we've talked BK and BT to death, literally. What's left to talk about? Give me 3 good non-SNS topics of discussion for Banjo. It's hard, innit?
All we can do is wait until Rare says something. They've hinted at another Banjo game for a while now. Dunno if it's in development or not, but like I said, the idea is probably floating around. Perhaps they even have a plot layed out.
Who knows.

I came back because my GCN broke, it no longer can read any disks, including new ones. it just says "no disk." I would buy a new one, but this is my third GCN this has happened to
and it isnt even trying to read the disks, because the motor never starts up. So it actually isnt spinning the disks in the drive, which is probably why it doesnt recognize them
Loose wire, perhaps?
But I started playing my n64 a lot more, and since I've played all my games a hundred times, I just started messing around in BK and CBFD with my equalizers, to try and find new stuff.

How did it go? Well.... dabreegster and I sat around for a half-hour or so before things got started. We gazed around the chatroom, gazed around at the names of everyone who was there, and came to the conclusion that there were only two. Us. So, we had a grand discussion... with each other. We decided (a lot quicker than expected) that we would try to start one more website, sort of an combination of a community website and a site combining multiple interests (we're still thinking about this ourselves, so it's a little muddled at the moment). Anyways, whatever we do, the first step is finding a host. With 8-95 - the last host we've used (coughevilcough) - out of the question, we're at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Soooooooo.... anybody got any suggestions for hosting?

I heard there's a real cool host that costs a buck a month for each gig that you sign up for. I can't remember the name though.
how, if anything, is BCDB coming along? I contributed way too much time making graphics for there to go to waste. if I am assured it is progressing, I shall make a banjo-related essay for you!

Give me 3 good non-SNS topics of discussion for Banjo
Ok, um...
1) What do you think SnS was supposed to- no...
2) How were the games supposed to connect for SnS- no...
3) Why didn't they put SnS in BT- no...
Shoot, this is hard... and what's a BCDB...

Yay! We finally managed to find a temporary forum for discussion on the creation of a new website! So, if you're interested in the future of banjo, come on down to http://s7.invisionfree.com/Banjo_Future/index.php, a forum that dabreegster can actually use!
And btw, dabreegster says:
"I'd just like to tell Icy Guy and any other old friends to come to #banjofuture on irc.freenode.net anytime that's good for them. Post the times here. Breeg wants a chat"

Registered my account there. A chat may be better overall, but since the last one didn't turn out so good, as well as the fact I haven't used IRC in a long time, the fourms there should do fine.

Gaming Master.. you worry me. You are 17 years old, you need to go out and live life. Do not waste your life rotting away in front of the T.V. Hang out with friends more often, take up a hobbie. Start playing an instrument or something. DO it for your own good.......

Don't you DARE insult someone for who they are, bastard. I don't know who the hell you think you are, coming out of nowhere just to say that. Just so you know...surfing the web IS a hobby, as is watching TV. Hypocrite. Go ahead and insult me, if you'd like...I have a feeling you will. Don't do this again.

8th December 2004, 11:31 PM
I remember having a conversation with ProfessorX (or whatever his name was) about this exact topic awhile back. My answer was something along these lines (and still is):
Although I enjoy posting here and have been an active member for quite some time, I always like to balance my life out with other things. Ranging from card games to being involved with various sports to hanging out with friends to working out all the way back to lounging on the internet, these help give me a well balanced outlook on life (The sports/working out help keep me fit and healthy too. :) )
However undermining the lifestyle of someone else isn't exactly a good thing to do. It's not to say the way someone is living is the healthiest, but if they feel happy about their lives, criticism isn't going to do anything positive (it may not do anything negative, but in most cases it won't do anything positive either.) and you have to respect that. But enough on this topic.
Back to the main topic, I haven't really posted much outside the first topic on the Banjo Future boards. I'll check in later to leave a comment or two (if there's been any activity there).
...Seeing as his pants are missing.
I can only assume that the laundry machine mistook your pants as large pairs of socks. ;)
