Don't freak out it's just a rumor now. :o But here's the story:

Nintendo Dojo (www.ninntendojo.com)

Respected Japanese business magazine Shuukan Diamond reports that Nintendo's next system, codenamed Revolution, will come with a controller which does not feature a directional pad or "A" and "B" buttons. The magazine has had a reputable news record since 1913; the change would be in line with Nintendo's plans to change the way gamers play games.

Keep in mind that this has not been confirmed by Nintendo and thus is a rumor. I not feel good with this happening. I just feel right with the A and B buttons on nintendo consoles. Without them, it wouldn't feel like Nintendo.

This story's been everywhere recently.

If I recall, wasn't the original GCN controller devoid of a D-Pad? Then Nintendo decided to put one on at the last second. (They could have made it bigger mind)

And if they don't use A/B buttons, well, they'll probably just name the buttons something else.

;)

Oh yes. I mean, after the dismal failure that is XBox Live, I can't see how any game company would invest in online gaming.

Tee hee ;)

Nintendo is #1 for innovation... no doubt about that. Lets just see if the innovation will help or harm them. I believe in Nintendo. They must have something big in mind!

Oh, yes...I agree! :D And did you know that waffles go GREAT with cyanide?

But really...I don't think they should do this. The D-pad isn't a major thing to me (but I do like it)...but the lack of A/B buttons wouldn't feel right with an Nintendo console, you know. :(

This is interesting, actually. Because they're probably not just renaming the buttons. That wouldn't make the news. Considering how devoted Nintendo have been to continue the evolution of gaming, I wouldn't be surprised if they have some very clever idea. Nintendo seem to be trying harder and harder to make gaming accessible to anybody of any age and ability... Maybe they're planning having some sort of miniature luminous LCD screen under translucent buttons that tells you exactly what the button does?

...ehm, sorry. I got carried away. :p

Oh, and I still haven't forgiven Nintendo for saying that online gaming is teh sucksor. They may want to evolve gaming, but even so, they're throwing a blind eye to the ability to encorporate practically infinite replayability into games.

Don't get me wrong i'm born and bred nintendo since I was 3, but I can't turn a blind eye to everything they miss that they shouldn't.

Edit: 2 things

1. Banjo-Fella I read an article on gamewinners.com that said that nintendo plans tp bring it's consoles online in 4 years. also rumors are flying around that nintendo hired the warp pipe guys to head it (warp pipe allowed some GCN games like Kirby Air Ride to be played online for those that don't know)

2. No Kaz I had no idea let me try that (puts cyanide on his waffles and takes a big bite) you know they really do taste goo---THUD! :D

Actually this is not a rumor. This has actually happened and being confirmed by the Warp Pipe Team (www.warppipe.com) This, I believe, is an obvious advancement toward online for a Nintendo console. But we'll see.
;) I won't post my whole thesis on Nintendo's strategy because you guys might fall asleep. :p

As an old school gamer myself. I wouldn't mind going back to the NES and the SNES days. ;)

but videogames seem to really be changing these days. I just hope they don't get rid of all the buttons entirely and just have touch screen. ( a feature nintendo is making WAY too big a deal out of.) Because it does get hard to use sometimes.

BTW, we lefthanders actually get the upperhand in using the stylis because we get to move with our lefthands like a d-pad and still use the x,y,a, and b, buttons. Instead of switching controls or screwing up the way people are used to playing.

so... FOILED AGAIN RIGHTIES!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! :D   :p ;) :mazza :)

... okay. I've had my moment...

Maybe there wont be any "buttons" at all. Maybe there will be just a touch screen with a different set of touchables for each game. That'd be cool. I've heard that rumor.
