Q. I discovered a Banjo-Threeie screenshot/boxart! Should I post it?

A. No. There are many fake banjo-kazooie 3 screenshots and boxes out there, and if an official screenshot or box was reveiled, it would be more well-known and you wouldn't need to start a thread about it.

Q. iz it alrite 2 speek like this??/

A. Sure, but most members don't like bad grammar and would take it into account in their posts.

Q. I hate Microsoft for being greedy and stealing Rare from Nintendo.

A. Rare, Microsoft and Nintendo are all to "blame" for Rare's purchase in 2002. Rare sold their shares, Nintendo sold their shares, Microsoft bought them.

Q. But the Xbox is for FPS' and Sports games!

A. Saying this will receive negative attention from members, as it's steryotyping the console. Similar to me saying "Nintendo only makes kid games"

Q. I saw a flash Banjo-Threeie cartoon on newgrounds, can I post it?

A. No, it's a pretty old video and most members here have seen it.

Q. I've discovered something! Can I post my discovery?

A. There is a good chance that it's already been discovered or that it's not new. However, if you're absolutely sure that it's never been found before, PM a regular about it. Alternatively, we have a Banjo-Theories (http://www.rarewitchproject.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30) forum, as well as a search feature.

Q. I think there is more to Stop N' Swop!

A. Rare has stated repeatedly that Stop n' Swap was canned. However, if you really want to say what you want to say, you can do so in the Banjo-Theories (http://www.rarewitchproject.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30) forum.

Q. Where can I find Gameshark Codes?

A. We have a section of the main page where codes can be found here. (http://www.rarewitchproject.com/?action=codes)

Q. Where can I find Banjo music?

A. Every MP3 from the Banjo series can be found in the following links:

http://www.sound-test.org/soundtracks/banjo/banjo-kazooie/
http://www.sound-test.org/soundtracks/banjo/banjo-tooie/
http://www.sound-test.org/soundtracks/banjo/gruntys-revenge/

Banjo-Pilot mp3's are not available on that website.

Q. I want to start a thread about [Subject]

A. It's important that new members use the Search feature, as repeated threads tend to annoy other members.

Q. Will Banjo-Kazooie 3 come out on the Wii?

A. No.

Q. But Rare has made GBA and DS games right? There's a chance!

A. Microsoft allows Rare to develop for Nintendo handhelds both because they don't have a competing handheld and to keep good relations with Nintendo. Likewise, Nintendo allows Microsoft to develop for the DS, so Microsoft doesn't need a handheld. Seeing as the Wii and 360 are competing systems, Rare cannot develop for the Wii.

Q. Will any Banjo games come out for the Virtual Console?

It's possible, seeing as Banjo-Tooie and Banjo-Kazooie are Nintendo games.

Q. Will Banjo-Kazooie 3 come out for the PS3?

A. Rare is fully owned by microsoft, and therefore can't develop for Sony either.

Q. I heard Banjo-Threeie was canned! Is this true?!

A. In mid-November, microsoft announced that one of their major titles would be canned. However, Rare was quick to dismiss the popular rumor that Banjo-Kazooie 3 was the canned game.

I just discovered some codes you can push in the sand castle in Treasure Trove Cove! They give you those eggs, and that giant Ice Key! Amazing!

I know most of you probably don't believe me, but I'll post my big discovery in the B-K Forum so I don't sound like a n00bie.

Q.Can I try to be a mod even if I am not one?

A. No, let the mods do their jobs, that's why they were assigned their position.

People need to stop back seat modding. All the rules that are needed are already here. Honestly, are you trying to get anyone new to hate us? Who cares if they post something that's already been posted, "OH GOD IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!! I HAD TO READ IT ALL OVER AGAIN!!!" Are you really that pissed that someone has posted something that's been posted before? Well I have one thing to say to you... "Get a freakin life!"

I swear to god, people have been getting pissy over the stupidest ****! If things keep going like they are, this website is going to be nothing but a stupid sheet of dumb rules... The point of being here is to have fun, and a lot of you are ruining it, by screaming at every noob that makes a damn mistake! Just nicely tell them. So you don't scare them away!

It's no wonder why Mandolin left...

Probably gonna get negative repped like hell for showing some opinion.

Please new members, realize that everyone here is not a jerk.

I think it's a great idea but the tone of the answers are a little harsh. I know some of you get easily annoyed by new members, but with a little encouragement they can become decent members (most of the time).

If it was re-worded to be slightly more friendly I think I'd probably sticky, or at least tack it onto the new "posting guide" I'm writing up. It would be great to have something written for new members by the senior members.

In response to this question, I think the best thing a regular member can do to help the mods is use the "Report Post" button in the upper-righthand corner of each post. If you feel a post is bad or otherwise needs attention that's the best thing you can do. It's the quickest way to alert a mod or an admin if something needs "modding". I don't think many people are aware of this button, so instead of posting replies saying "Hey stop that noob!", this would be a better alternative. In a way you are modding. :)

Indeed, there's a few places I mod at, and that feature does help, when people actually use it that is.

Really the only thing I would change, would be change n00b to newb.

Look, I've had some time to cool, and I want to apologies Tanjo, I had no right to do that. I blew up because Friday, I got into a fight at school with some pompice jock ***hole, because he didn't like me because of my long hair. We started yelling at each other he pushed me first, we started fighting, Principal came to break us up, and I got into more trouble, because he was a football player. I see a major problem with "Report Post" instead of "Neg Rep". You can't report someone just because they used appalling English grammar, for example. Reporting is easier to accidentally abuse; it seems that posts should be reported for bigger things such and inappropriate language or links. Neg Rep can (or could ) be used for the more simple things.

Tanjo
16th December 2007, 10:40 PM
Yeah, but then people would complain about it when they are given negative rep for every little thing and we'd wind up in the same boat as we were before we got rid of rep. We're better off without it.

Exactly why it was removed. Neg rep was never supposed to be used in that way. It was even stated in the rules. It's annoying when we get users who post like this but they either don't stick around, or occasionally improve.

True. I'm not sure about here, but I know on other sites the mods can see who reported the post. So if someone kept reporting posts that had very minor problems, that really didn't need reporting, we can pm them and ask them not to report posts like that.

Rep of any kind isn't going to come back. People just didn't understand how it was meant to be used, and thus it was removed.

People really need to learn to stop complaining about minor things. Is it annoying to read postz lik thtz??!? Yeah, should people have to? No, but guess what, it's not going to be the first post of it's kind, nor while it be the last.

If it's happening repeatedly, all you have to do is send the user a simple message asking them politely to please not post in leet/internet/im/whatever you want to call it speak. Most of the time, this works just fine.

If not, then just ignore it. Why should you have to see it? Guess what? You don't, there's the ignore user feature. If seeing posts like that is really going to cause you to stab your eyes out, then ignore the user, then you won't even see their posts, problem solved.

What needs to be done, isn't creating a topic that honestly, almost seems slightly offensive to new members, it's teaching people to act with better maturity as well as use features like the ignore user and report post feature that are going to help everyone out.

Exactly why it was removed. Neg rep was never supposed to be used in that way. It was even stated in the rules. It's annoying when we get users who post like this but they either don't stick around, or occasionally improve.

But it shows them how they need to improve and gives them a good reason to improve themselves. "Hmm...post more maturely and thoughtfully and get more points! It makes so much sense!" And for the benefit of the site, I think that saying "oh well they go away eventually" is silly. We should want to have more good members, and be able to encourage them through a rating system.

Yes it was abused due to personalized hate (i.e "i dun liek you, me neg rep nao ), but I think that should be easy enough to fix.

I think people whined too much and didn't take it into account just what the system was for. They needed to have it explained to them. Maybe if we had an automated introductory PM that gets sent to all users when they sign up, that they HAVE to at least click on and spend one minute on before they can move on to posting, maybe it would have been better.

Meh, those are my thoughts.

Mandy
20th December 2007, 08:12 PM
I wanted the rep system to work probably more than anyone, I introduced it and in theory was a great idea (least I thought so). I tried hard to make it work.

When it started rules were made and members who knew the rules from the beginning still ignored them. The rules were updated for a second time in a vain attempt to make things work and they were ignored again. It became really pointless. Things were ok when I moderated rep daily, but I just can't do that anymore. I don't really think any of you realize how bad it was, the amount of abuse and complaints were just insane. If anything, it did more harm than good. I don't think we can ever make the rep system work, but I have a few ideas for some sort of alternative.

It would have been a good way to help new members if it was used in a constructive way. Unfortunately new members were often bombarded with neg rep as soon as they joined if they weren't posting well (not to mention the anonymous nasty comments) Rather than helping them to improve it has often driven them away. The same can be said for some of the posts that get made when people get annoyed with new members. Granted, sometimes we get trouble makers; but I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt and try to help them become better members. A bit more tolerance and patience would be great. I think we'd all like the forums to be a little bit busier

Tanjo

I think the welcomes we give arn't very... welcoming, to say the least. Things like "You can never leave, muahahahah!" and "Watch out for crazy people!" may seem harmless, and probably should be, but in the eyes of newbies, it could seem pretty harsh. And when they make a single mistake, with their first post, they get completly torn apart by older members.

I was attacked by Coolboyman for my first post, and I know how it can feel. Though I really don't like CBM regardless of that, it did scare me away from any forum areas he was posting in, and at the time, he was very active. Maybe if we all tried to tone down our natural instinct to be defensive and witty, new members won't start running instantly. :-/

Mandy

TBH I think the welcomes are cool, some of you guys are a bit weird but it's endearing ;) It's just friendly banter.

I've always thought that we're pretty good at welcoming new members, just not great at giving them a chance to get better.

I've been working on improving registration rates and posts from new members, so I'm glad that this conversation has come up. It would be a shame if it went to waste.

Tanjo's set of FAQS on posting, and the other tips for newbies on this site are really helpful. Still, it's little daunting to read prejudice toward "noobs" as in some of the comments above. Also, some of the sarcastic and indignant responses to seemingly inadvertent posts of old news is intimidating. The site is large--as in, it would take many hours and even days to read entirely. A few people who were reprimanded for redundant posts said that the "search" didn't turn up some results for them, and, after all, everyone makes mistakes, overlooks, etc. I can understand that it's frustrating, not to mention a waste of time to re-read info when you've been here for months (years?) as discoveries are posted but it also seems to me that this is kind of a normal liability to these kinds of forums--one that most sites try to limit with FAQS but can't eliminate entirely. Par for the course, as they say. Incidentally, I hope this isn't coming off as offensive, as I only meant to add perspective of a "noob". Offensive wouldn't be the introduction I wanted. And anyway, I believe I'm in the wrong forum :o.
