Today, issue 121 (March 2005) of Tips & Tricks arrived in the mail. I kind of scanned the cover: KOTOR II, Halo 2, and GTA: San Andreas all jumped out. I didn't pay much attention to the text...until a few minutes ago. Then I noticed this:
PLUS
Online Games TOP 10
New Hardware: GIZMONDO
Rare Game: IT'S MR. PANTS
(I wish I had a scanner. :( )
Yes, that's right. IMP got mentioned on the cover of Tips & Tricks. Whee!
But wait...there's more!
Flipping to the "Collector's Closet" column (pg. 76-77 in this issue), I'm greeted with a red box on the left, which asks "Where is Mr. Pants?" A picture of the game's box is to the right of the text, and three pics from the game can also be found in this red box. Here's what it says:
Way back in 2001, Nintendo announced a puzle game for the Game Boy Advance called DK Coconut Crackers. Developed by Rare, it featured characters from the Donkey Kong Country series and was scheduled to be released in 2002. But when Rare was acquired by Microsoft, DK Coconut Crackers disappeared from all release schedules and was presumed dead. Late last year, the game was retooled and released by THQ as It's Mr. Pants; instead of Donkey Kong, it now features an amusing stick-figure character who was originally designed as sort of a company mascot on Rare's Web site. What makes the game of particular interest to collectors is the fact that its original production run was very small and that all North American copies were distributed in Canada only. We can't say with absolute certainty that It's Mr. Pants will never be released in the U.S., but as of this writing, THQ has not confirmed a U.S. release date. The game is already impossible to find at online retailers and auction sites; you may have more luck locating the European version, which is fully compatible with North American GBA units and seems to be more readily available.
*hugs North American copy of IMP that he was lucky enough to find online, at Games Universe or CD Universe or something*
