View Full Version : I want the next Scribes to arrive.

And yes, this desire warrants it's own thread.
Here's the letter I just sent their way, I hope they answer it:
_______
Dear Scribes,
First off, thanks for being patient with the rabid Banjo fans over the past few months. It will only get worse. Case-in-point, my barrage of questions - as I myself am one of those rabid fans. So, yes. Here's a few questions that I must desperately know the answers to. You know, in that typical frothing-at-the-mouth-Rare-fan kind of way.
!. The next Banjo installment. It's pretty much shaping up to be your most anticipated title ever. So I'm just thinking - could you throw us fans a bone, please? I'm not talking information-wise, either. You guys have actually been doing pretty well on that front. The thing is: screen-shots?! You know, one screenshot for those of us who have joined in agony on message-boards across the internet wondering when we'll see this game in action? One in-game screenshot to tide us over. Just one. How about it? Or at the very least could you tell us when we might be able to expect any media, please?
2. You guys could pull off a really good marketing campaign with this Banjo game. How about this? On your main page, a puzzle piece image, all taken apart. Everyday, a puzzle piece is added on - or maybe you can incorporate it into a game where people who log onto your site can play it and work towards putting the puzzle back together. And when the puzzle piece image is put together again, we have ...ta-da! Our very first Banjo 360 screen-shot! How awesome! The problem in question #1 solved. How about it?
3. Is there any chance you can explain Gregg Mayles comment in regards to the fact that 'old levels will return but not how [we] expect'? What does this mean? Are we going to see a time-travel angle where we see the future (or past) incarnations of classic Banjo-Kazooie levels? Or is he speaking of old levels as in scrapped levels that never made it into B-K or B-T?
Much thanks for taking the time to do this, the Scribes section rocks,

If more and more of us start sending letters into Scribes, they will publish a new one within a month, and not four or five. I'm going to send a letter soon as well.

Good.
Anyone who reads this thread should send in a letter to the Scribes e-mail addy with something. The address is editor@rareware.com - - do it now.

This could thread could serve as that...if people care enough about flooding Rare's mail box.

They'll probably make a new scribes soon, only without any of our letters just to shut our mouths. Grrr.

I'll make a letter. I actually never sent them a letter before, so this should be fun. Here's what I plan to send them:
Dear Scribes,
First off, I just want to say that even after all the mediocre/disappointing/uninteresting stuff you've been churning out these past few years, I still have faith in you. I still feel the love for you that I felt a long time ago when I first started playing Banjo-Kazooie. I look forward to every game you make, even ones that don't apply to my gaming sensibilities... and that's fandom you can't buy.
[3 hours later]
Moving on, I have some questions about some things, mainly Banjo-centered, but don't let that fool you. I'm out for BLOOD... but I won't ask questions that have been asked a thousand times already.
1. For Banjo-Kazooie 3 or Banjo-Threeie or whatever you intend to call it, will the gameplay be completely updated and renewed for this generation taking into account what Gregg implied about the game being more open? What I mean by that is, BK staples like the fly pads, shock spring pads, and split-up pads offer unique abilities for Banjo and Kazooie, but do so only in location-specific areas. Will this change in BK3 by having these moves accessible at all times or have these gameplay touches remained the same after all these years? Please, feel free to divulge on other gameplay mechanics while you're at it.
2. For the shooting elements in BK3, since Gregg has also stated that shooting portions have been removed, what does that entail for egg-shooting, a beloved staple of the BK series? (As you can probably tell, I'm concerned about the preservation of Banjo's gameplay)
3. Will we be able to play as more characters than Banjo, Kazooie, and Mumbo? I'm curious because of the proposed "new roles" of these characters and what that will entail for the result of the gameplay. Will Mumbo still do magic? Will Humba? What about Bottles and JamJars? I think clarification is in order.
Thank you and I hope you don't delay Banjo until 2010 like I know you guys will.
Sincerely,
ConkerTribe

I wish that the Scribes wouldn't always publish the pointless mail that they get. It's a waste of time to people actually wanting to ask important questions.

Take into consideration how many of them are actually worthwhile....You got a point there. Anyways, I've sent my letter just now to Scribes, in hopes that they will answer. I think if a lot of people send their mail, they will publish a new one next month or so.

I recall that in both 2006 and 2007, we got new scribes around late February or early March, so if the pattern continues, we should get a new one pretty soon.
B-K Nostalgia
3rd February 2008, 06:44 PM
I don't know if there is a fixed pattern to these things...
Maybe they'll wait until after GDC where they might (read: probably won't) be revealing Banjo 360 media... so as to dodge all those 'when are we going to get to see Banjo-Threeie?' questions.

It'd be nice if everyone from RareWitchProject's forums joined in and sent at least one letter.
Tanjo's nearly incoherent ramblings about Rare's ridiculous Viva Pinata whoring made it in last time, didn't it? So all of us have a chance, too.
Send those letters in!

Sticky-worthy? It has barely reached 2 pages, and it isn't exactly the most important thing ever. In fact, the more letters we send, the less chance we have of B-K Nostalgia's letter being chosen, as there will be more to read and chose from.
I'll still send one in, but I really doubt anything useful will come of it.

Be Confident! B-K Nostalgia's letter will definately be on there even if there are billions of questions because his is not stupid questions that have already been asked billions of times before.

You might have a point... but on the other hand, I hope not. I hope my letter as well as the few you guys are sending in will be selected and we'll all get our chance in the Scribes spotlight. That's the ideal scenario, anyway.
Be Confident! B-K Nostalgia's letter will definately be on there even if there are billions of questions because his is not stupid questions that have already been asked billions of times before.
I hope you're right but I think I might have as good a chance as anybody. Especially with my three specifically Banjo 360-related questions. Then again, they could at least politely dodge the answers they just don't want to answer, and still have at least entertained my questions.
We'll have to see, I guess. I hope it makes it.

Yeah I know but I'm just saying that most of the questions on December's Scribes were not as good as yours because I actually want to know what the answer to your question is, so I was being confident by saying yours will.

While they may get to BKN's question, there's a good chance they'll just say something else as they usually do, though they might put in a small hint.

Easy. Your questions are logical and I do hope they make it through. No one here would turn their nose up at legitimate BK3 related info. I mentioned as much in my earlier post that the ideal situation would be one in which most of our questions make it past the discerning eye of the Scribes editor and onto that coveted little page of theirs.
Ideal situation. Maybe not the likely situation.
Anyways - your inquiries regarding playable characters, the FPS elements, the return of BK staples and other game-play mechanics are all logical and appropriate. Let's hope yours gets through.
Because, you know, either way - if yours gets through or mine (or both, hopefully), we'll at least get some pertinent and valuable BK3 info. As opposed to some of the more flimsy questions which get sometimes gets put through.

Very soon indeed. So soon, in fact, that I'm afraid these questions just missed the internal deadline we have for submissions.
That's not to say you're entirely out of luck though, as we will hold on to them. So who knows? Maybe they'll make the cut next time.
Sorry for any disappointments this causes, I just thought you'd rather know now than be let down when the next Scribes arrives.

Yeah, it is good to know rather than see the Scribes page and not see a single one of our letters and get let down that way.
To be honest, I'd be just as happy if their page is full of Banjo related inquiries - even if it's not mine or any of the others in this thread.

Rare's Editor is currently unwell at the moment and is recovering at home. So, along with clamouring for the next Scribes, it would also be nice if you all wished him a "get well soon" too.
