An Xbox apparently blew up in the face of a man in Sweden, despite the fact that the console had been fitted with a recall replacement cord from Microsoft.

If you ask me I think the guy is a bit of a cry baby. He should tell microsoft/store he bought it from and open his windows. A few sparks and smoke smell is nothing. It's not like it burnt down his apartment killing 17 people and injuring 23 more.

1 X-box explodes with the new plug and all X-box's suck? That's like saying one PanaSonic TV died out, all PanaSonic TV's suck. ...
I'm sure you could find just as many cases of console glitches for PS2. Grant Gamecube seems to have less, but no one apparently cares about Gamecube anyway, which is sad.

this sounds like microsoft having to pay a litle fortune to that unliky -or luky depending the way you see it- user. (if he cryes, microsoft will have to pay, that's for sure)

Blowing up is different then a TV dieing. This could endanger you or your house.

He's trying to say that just because 1 Xbox exloded, it doesn't mean that they all will.

Yeah, your hair curlers have the potential to blow up. A ton of things have the POTENTIAL to blow up. One actually doing it doesn't say anything about the rest.
It's like when one cow has mad cow disease, everyone stops eating meat, as if every cow had it.

Well it still makes you think that if this man's Xbox exploded then why not yours? Any Xbox could blow up
[Holy Shit! What was that firey explosion in my basement?] :)

Xboxes are basically all made to the same specifications so yeah it a high probability...
Use caution.

Yeah, but if you rebuilt the Titanic to the same blueprints, that doesn't mean it will sink. Not unless you recreate the events leading up to the disaster, including details like speed, size of iceberg, temperature of the titanium hull, total weight of the passengers on the ship -- too many impossible details to recreate in order to produce the same results.
Who knew what this guy was doing to make his XBox blow up. Did he have too many things plugged into one outlet, causing a surge? Did he have the XBox near a furnace register -- or near any element that would rise the unit above normal room temperature? Did he line dynamite around the console? Knobody knows, and this fool would probably be too embarrased to admit it was anything other than a technical flaw.
And it could have been a technical flaw, but even that doesn't mean every other XBox will blow up. All the individual parts that make the XBox could have been flawed at some point during assembly. The transistors that govern power flow, for instance.
Anyway, my basic idea is that even though they come from the same blueprint, no two XBoxes are going to be the same.

Everyone, listen to Gold. He makes some good points, especially the one about objects in proximity. Let's go to Bungie's history for some evidence:
"As a tease of sorts, and to highlight plot as much as technology, Bungie released a teaser trailer of Master Chief diving Earthward from a spaceship at a press event in 2002. The first glimpse the public would get of Halo 2 gameplay would be at E3 in 2003. At the purpose-built Halo 2 Theater.
The Halo 2 Theater was an edifice that took up a significant chunk of Microsoft's E3 real estate. Inside the darkened, sound-proofed auditorium, the night before E3, Bungie employees worked feverishly to make sure the demo was complete, bug-free, glitch-proof and perfect. It had behaved perfectly thus far – and this was the final test. Right in the middle of the demo, it crashed. Not a freeze, not a stutter, but a big familiar blue screen, the most embarrassing type of crash possible. Code was checked, checksums rechecked – everything seemed perfect, but the game still crashed! It was a disaster!
Until that is, somebody noticed that the demo Xbox being used (a green debug kit) was sitting on top a giant hot subwoofer. Whether through a combination of its giant magnetic field, or perhaps the stifling heat of the LA Convention center – the box had simply given up. A replacement was grabbed from a pile of dozens, and the day was saved. Huzzah!"

yes, but I'm sure my game cube won't explode even if it was fairly hot
replacing power cords? fried consoles? and microsoft still says there's no relation? what relation? the console still fried with the new cord
Anyway, my basic idea is that even though they come from the same blueprint, no two XBoxes are going to be the same.
yes, the others can explode later, or even burn your house.
just think it for a moment, a console mustn't explode, they have to be done to prevent this sort of things :S microsoft sayd only in one out of 1000 there's some risk....well but there's still a 0.0001% that your xbox will fry/burn/blow at some point :S

but it didn't blew up :p
