Geez, that sucks. Those were good controllers too....(the Dualshock ones.)

Some phone company patented wireless gaming but Nintendo uses wireless gaming with the DS so i think.
Its wrong for them to have a patent to something as generic as 'rumbling' in a controller.
I'll bet Sony take on that decision..If they can.
Didn't Nintendo first create the rumble controller? With the Rumble Pak?

What the hell is wrong with people? Ugh... that's sickening. However far we've come as a society, it's all just still a GD childish, petty schoolyard fight.

There's no such thing as adulthood.

Hmm this is interesting...I wonder why Immersion Corp. didn't do this earlier?

Wait, I thought all 3 next-gen consoles had built in rumble features? And why can't the third party developers like Mad Cats and Pelican be sued?

OmegaPirate

I'm not exactly sure..., but i think its the technique that sony uses for its rumbling mechanisim/design? Is that what it is?
Are immersion gonna try stop all games going to the USA that use Dual Shock too are they? (That 40 or so..) ??

Sony must appeal and win!!! *cries* that 80 mil should be used to make games! Not feed the pocket of them freeloading vultures..

On a more upbeat note this thread looked to me (at first from the main menu) like it said "Sony ordered to pay $90.70" ...lol

well..after all...if they have made the dual shock controllers without cheking if by this they were violating some patents, it's theyr problem after all....(the thing I don't know is why reclaming today if the dual shock was released years ago)

for example, nitendo has lots of patents to prevent things like this, did anyone know that the D-pad is actually a nintendo invention and patent? that's why de pad in every other system (including play station) completely sucks, same thing for other invents like the original n-64 stick or the controller ports, and also the rumble pack tecnology I think.

Sony must appeal and win!!! *cries* that 80 mil should be used to make games! Not feed the pocket of them freeloading vultures..

that's not much of a loss for a big company like sony, and anyway, one out of 200 games is sony-made.

but, well, on the other hand, yes, they are vultures TT_TT, but this is a bussines, and this sort of things happens in bussines. -rare with microsoft for example :(-

Good... Sony should rot in hell.

This is no doubt going to hurt them but if they appeal and loose then they have to say to themselves "ok, we need to come up with a new form of dualshock technology" and then get it developed.

that's not much of a loss for a big company like sony, and anyway, one out of 200 games is sony-made.
Sony have the money but $90.7 Mil is still a lot of money to have to hand over. Don't forget they're not allowed to sell their consoles with the controllers in them so there's more money lost. It's not just a matter of what they have to pay you also need to take into account sales losses

Well, this is nice. Great work, Sony.

Hey, it's their fault. They need to fix the problem on their own.

This kind of reminds me of the suit where some guy was suing tons of big-name companies for using sprites in 3-D games.

There'll be an appeal, and it'll all cool off.

Sony are approximately $60 Billion in debt at the moment.

Either that or they have a debt of $60 Billion, I really can't remember which one it is.

ah isn't it more like:
60 Billion - 60 000 000 000 (3 less 0s)
90 Million - 90 000 000

or is this because of the different countries we are in because I do know some countries have billion differently to Australia.

Grey Jinjo
29th March 2005, 10:54 AM
... It's like that in America, too.

Hakey Wake
29th March 2005, 01:09 PM
Here, a billion is a million million, so 1 000 000 000 000, I believe the American billion is 1 000 000 000, or one thousand million.

In any case, it's a lot of money Sony are going to lose.

BlueBreegull
29th March 2005, 11:40 PM
Thousand - 1,000
Million - 1,000,000
Billion - 1,000,000,000
Trillion - 1,000,000,000,000
Quadrillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000
Quintillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
Hexillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
Septillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
Octillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
Nonillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
Decillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Then there's like something past that, then a

Dodecillion - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000

And then I don't know, but the highest number ending in 'illion' I can think of is

Icosillion (or something like that) - 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

So there you have it, that's how it is in the Americas at least :) .

n.
The number 10 raised to the power googol, written out as the numeral 1 followed by 10^100 zeros.

I'd write it, but that'd be difficult.

My point is, they aren't really in debt.

Donald Trump filed bankruptcy 6 times, do you think he was REALLY in debt? They have write offs, tax-evasion, etc. Always makes it look like less than they have.

It's certainly possible. Immersion Corp. may have opened the gates to more troubles for Sony. I'd be willing to bet that their console and everything else will be thoroughly checked out by both Sony and their competitors.

Well I know what you mean, despite being apparantly money-less they can still keep going.

Sooner or later it'll surely do some damage to the company though.
