View Full Version : When Setting the Table, the Napkin Goes On the...

=donkey-banjo=

I've seriously been yelled at by my dad because I set the napkin on the right. For some reason he "strongly" believes it goes on the left.

It's time to settle this long ridiculous quarrel once and for all. Which side of the plate does the napkin go on? The Right or the Left?

I don't eat at the table. I eat at my computer, it saves time. Infact I'm eating right now. Mmmm....popcorn. When eating supper I place my napkin in a crumpled up ball between my keyboard and my screen. I sometimes don't use cutlery.

I don't use napkins. So I would have no clue.

I don't understand stuff like these, because in my opinion, it's extremely trivial that a person should care about which side the napkin goes on or which silverware item goes next to each other.

:) I also believe this same exact thing. See we have many things in common. :)

The fact that people have a certain way for everything on the table to be set up is frightening. Who gives a crap? Seriously. Left or right, you're gonna grab it and use it without any second thought.

And the tell your dad Internet Man said he has a serious case of OCD.

Napkins go on your lap. :P
That's the rule at my house, anyway.

I always assumed it went on whatever side depending on your handedness. Like, if you're right handed, it goes on the right since that's the hand you'd use instinctively.

Stupid youngsters, with their shizzle-mcfizzle-dizzle language, and their take-it-wherever-you-go music players, and their flying machines, and their whatchamacallits. To hell with you all, I say.

What napkin?

Napkins are for people who spill food easily.

...I see no question here; it's the right. :p

The napkin goes on the right with the fork, knife, and spoon on top of it. In that order.

Real men don't use napkins...

The right, unless you know if the person is left-handed.

On topic, I always put it right... as does everyone I know. When I'm at a restaurant, though, one always goes on my lap. If it's the only napkin, there's not much debate on right or left.

Always goes on the right for me I guess. Although down here in Kangaroo-land I call it a Serviette.

...Silly Americans and their unsophisticated-sounding Napkins. :teach:

my family only use serviettes on special occasions (don't ask!), but they're always set on the right ;)

You people waste the 0.01% food that is in your hand by using a napkin.

I don't use a napkin. I lick it off.

Um... I sometimes don't even have a napkin... I eat out with a knife and fork, and if I get dirty, I clean myself up in the bathroom 5 feet away from me while I'm eating in my room, at my computer and watching TV. Yeah, that's right. I'm a slob. I don't care.

I'm left handed, yet I still put it on the right side.
