I just went through and read all the posts in this thread from April onward, and it really looks like people were looking forward to this project getting finished. It would be a shame to let them down, you know? Well I, for one, am back and ready to help nudge this game along as long as the rest of you still want to go through with it. I don't know how much I can do right now, but I suppose the best thing to do at the moment is to start generating conversation on here again.

Bkp- I still like the idea of making our own game, but it is your call as to what order you want to do all of this in. I could go either way.

Viku- I always liked your drawings! Bkp was right though. You did start to become really active when the project first started to simmer down, so your drawings didn't get nearly as much attention as they deserved. Keep up the good work though! :)

Mojobojo- That package thing you were talking about sounds like it could go over really well. I have little technical know-how though, so take that for whatever it's worth.

Wow...that is really impressive! If only we could get our project here moving like that. Think of how amazing it would be! I'm definitely going to look more into this when I get some spare time this week. I already glanced at that guy's thread on RWC and I was thinking that maybe we can collaborate with him if this doesn't go anywhere anytime soon. That's if he wants to and we on this project want to of course.

Id love to get this going. Maybe we could get just the main engine going. Just have a ground with banjo sitting in the middle and do some testing. That seems to be the best approach to starting with the game.

kingpaco
5th October 2009, 05:59 AM
Agreed. We need someplace to start. I just read through the whole thread on RWC and I am feeling inspired now :D

Additionally, I think I'm going to offer to help come up with ideas for Milun to implement in that project if he will have me. I won't take any of the ideas discussed in this thread, including my own, so no worries there. On that same note though, Milun did say something about making some sort of level editor at some point, so if we are still having problems here, maybe we can use that? I know blender was mentioned a long time ago in this thread, and he seems to be working wonders with that and bottles's glasses at the moment.

I don't know who is left of TCJ project right now, but I say we gather whoever is left and try to revamp this. It would be a shame to let all of these good ideas go to waste.

mojobojo

I think we should keep it as close to the N64 gameplay and looks as close as possible. I think we should use models from the game. Anyone agree?

kingpaco

It seems to be working just fine for the BKE project, so I'm for it. Any progress, even in the smallest details, is good progress at this point.

If you can do that then great :). Sorry, I don't have much knowledge about how we could "make" this game in a technical sense, but it sounds like you could defininitely help in that department. We need to get some more people back into this project again so things can start flowing a little more smoothly.

TT: It would be nice to have you on board. Do you have some examples of what you can do?

As much as we would like to see you a little more around here, we understand that there are some things like this that just simply take higher priority. Don't worry about this project. I'm sure we can start to get things moving more while you are away, and you can jump back in whenever you are ready.

I hope things clear up for you soon Bkp. I really do.

@Programmer's
whoever is working on the coding aspect of this game, we really should be getting the main part of the game going. Maybe we can get just a test map going.

@Artists/Writers
We should really be getting everything into a story-board type thing.

The longer we wait, the harder it'll be to start up again, since most of the crew will have forgotten about the game, or will have lost interest. If we're going to do anything to keep this game from being another idea that never amounted to anything, we should probably do it soon.

Wow- i'm glad things are getting done in my absence! It encourages me to keep writing. Just a heads up: School is coming to an end, and the Drumline season is close to being over. The next month will be the busiest for me. HOWEVER, I am still working on music (i'm currently working on a clashblade castle revamp). I will try my hardest to keep up with the progress of the game. Qwazin

I actually agree with the "changing of style" idea to a certian degree. We've heard so much Banjo music by now that it's become quite predictable. That is not to say the music is not good, but it is just predictable. Your greatest peice by far, Mr. Pianist, was the nighttime theme for... Honeyhive Mountain I belive it was? That peice really gave your own spin on the Banjo style by keeping it very Banjo/Kirkhope-ish while still adding something personal and fresh to it. I think Clashblade Castle is playing it a little bit too safe. Don't be afraid to go outside of the "Banjo" way of composing. You already kind of perfected your ordinary Banjo-compositions with Dutchman's Domain :P

B-Kpianist
13th March 2010, 04:33 PM
Aww- that's too bad, I actually really liked ClashBlade Castle. :-/ I suppose I could spice it up a bit though. We'll see. I might just leave it alone and work on the other ones.

@Qwazin: I get what you're saying. And I do agree with you, I just don't wanna lose the banjo feel of things too much. Listening back on Honeybee Mountain (Night Time), I liked it a lot. The piano part came out really pretty in the end.

Y'know what? That'll be my next project. HB Mountain. I wanna see where I can take that one :)

Chicken Eater 40652
13th March 2010, 04:47 PM
That's the word...predictable. I think the composition is great for what it is, and of course you're a great composer and very musical. But I've heard you compose like that so much now that I know every next chord, the only difference is the melody. That is overexaggerating but I think you get my point. I too prefer the music you compose that is slightly out of the Banjo realm.

EDIT: My favourite piece is between Ballistic Bedroom and Minjo Manor. So maybe I'm wrong, maybe I just don't like CC for some other reason. I'm not sure why, I just don't like the piece - I think it sounds too generic..I'm not saying I could write better with my current music setup though.

I do like the way you throw in so many references to the official Banjo music, I can tell you're very musical. I can hear the talent. So keep it up.

123mac123
14th March 2010, 12:04 AM
constructive criticism, I I really only agree with changing the chord progression, however I find the quality of your recent music sounds more banjo kazzoie nuts and bolts, is that what your aim is?

Last time I looked into it, the engine itself costs a ton of money. : O

Cooki-Cooki
16th March 2010, 03:32 AM
The cost is US $350,000 for one of the available Unreal Engine 2 platforms, plus US $50,000 for each additional platform. A royalty of 3% is due on all revenue from the game, calculated on the wholesale price of the product minus (for console SKUs) console manufacturer fees. In the case of massive-multiplayer online games, the royalty is also due on the additional forms of revenue including subscriptions and advertisements.

Royalty-Free License - For any products

A non-refundable, non-recoupable license fee paid on execution of agreement: US $750,000 for one of the available platforms, plus US $100,000 for each additional platform. No royalty is due on any revenue from the product.
-----------------------------------------------
unreal engine 3 is more expensive again so if the old unreal engine 2 is US $750,000, then expect the unreal engine 3 to be even more.

yep, it's an expensive engine.

Regardless of what anyone says about CC, I think it's amazing... truly amazing...

But, sometimes I think your compositions are just a 'rip-off' from another Banjo tune... or sometimes multiple Banjo/Conker/Rare game tunes. I'm not sure why I sometimes think this because I always love the music anyway... I think this is the 4th time I'm listening to CC in a row now...

Anyway... I really hope TCG actually gets finished... even if it's just one level, I'd love a new, 3D Banjo platformer. Good luck...

And, @LL, I don't think sounds would be needed right now... the majority would be ripped from currently existing Banjo games anyway.

That piece was SUPPOSED to sound like Grunty's lair as it was not only a Banjo theme but the theme of Grunty's mother (or grandma). And, I'm pretty sure everyone went against what you said and insisted that only one little part of the tune sounded like Grunty's Lair (only because the chords) but, that was just a referance... everything else was entirely different.

So, I used one, small referance (well, half a referance as it was only the chords) in one, small tune. You use a referance in almost ALL your pieces...?

Bleh, this isn't the time or place to discuss this. Just forget it.

See, the thing is- every single Banjo-Kazooie tune (wether written by myself OR Grant Kirkhope), tends to relate to each other. That's why you hear a little bit of Banjo in DK64, for example. Or Banjo-Kazooie in Banjo-Tooie. If you're going to write in the same style for different games- there are obviously going to be some (if not a lot) of similarities. I even remember that a few songs from DK64 share melodies with Banjo (ie. a portion of the mad monster mansion church melody is heard in one of the rooms in creepy castle).

Ok I'm sorry me saying that was very very harsh, probably a bit wrong and inappropriate. But I'm just a bit peeved that you insulted BKP after I think he does great work, and when I heard your song that was basically Grunty's Lair I thought it sounded almost exactly the same.

And exactly, BKP, there are bound to be similarities. Take every Mozart sonata for example..they are all very unique, yet the same traits pop up again and again. It's the same thing.

JohnyT94
16th March 2010, 07:17 PM
This coming from a guy who's sick of the 'same old chord pregressions'?

Right.. ANYWAY...

I never insulted BKP, I said that I always hear stuff from Rare's games in his pieces... including the 'battle' theme that was supposed to be his own style. But, I was not insulting... I was evaluating.

Chicken Eater 40652
16th March 2010, 07:19 PM

At college my brother is studying game design and right now he's learning the fundamentals of it and I have access to all his lecture notes, so I'll be able to help.
He has also just started learning how to use the Unreal engine and I have access to all the lecture notes for that and he is teaching me one on one how to use it aswell. I'm pretty happy about that and so far I've learnt how to build rooms, apply textures and skyboxes etc.
I'll be learning heaps more stuff and I already know C++ so I'm sure I'll be able to help you guys if you do happen to recruit me. :P

So here's a quick Recap of worlds:

Honeybee Mountain: A bright and upbeat world with a huge and explorable honey hive in its center. The music is an upbeat swing-styled piece.
Ballistic Bedroom: An oversized kids bedroom fully loaded with a lego city, bouncy bed, ceiling fan replica of Cloud Cuckooland, and a toy train for transportation. The music is circus-like.
Wild Wired West: A western world that runs off of electricity. Fully loaded with projection screen walls, Mechanical Bull, and Pop out props. The music is a western theme with electrical sounds backing it up.
Dutchman's Domain: A dark, huge and mysterious ghostly pirate ship that floats takes flight only at night. The music is a dark pirate theme.
Bright-Star Belt: The "Terrarium of Terror" Construction zone. No music available yet (I kind of wanna cut this one- but i wanna hear your opinions on it)
Clashblade Castle: A castle world. (cant remember the description that much). Music was posted recently
Freezing Furnace: A GBA world brought to life in 3D (Might wanna cut this one too, but I need your opinions)
Eukaryotopia: The most unique world yet- A world inside of an animal cell. The music is in progress.
Fester's Factory/Grunty's Battlefield: The final world leading to the quiz and boss fights. The world is a maze to find Fester and Grunty's hideouts. The music for the factory portion is... factory like obviously. The Battlefield portion is undetermined- I was thinking of having a drumline sounding thing going on

Because Cooki wants the worlds to be accessed naturally, Im not sure what the hub should be. Any ideas?

My factious Banjo-Kazooie game (which only exists on paper; worlds drawn etc.) also holds Grunty's Battlefield as a final level prior to the final fight. :P Basically it was a mashup of camps and heavily armed buildings in the middle of a wasteland. The place would've been surrounded by rock walls seperating the place into 5 areas, N S E W and the center.

Aaannnd. I'm rambling on xD

Great song BKp. I can def. hear the inspiration from Ticker's Tower/Beta Mumbo's Mountain tune. I would say it's all great except, it is sometimes boring to listen to as all you can hear is that 'shaker' sound. Still fantastic though.

B-Kp I urge you to send me all your soundfonts please. They are to amazing to keep to yourself... I am stuck with GarageBand and a GM kit. D:

To the actual music. I love it! It is amazing, the melodies are so perfectly constructed... and I love the harmonies you've put in, and the whole jazzy feel. I just wish you'd make the bassline louder, because that's the "shaker" bit everyone's talking about. I turned my volume heaps because I thought it was quiet to hear the bassline then suddenly it got really loud. I could also hear the steel string acoustic from GB. You made it sound really nice on a low velocity.

The nighttime one - The arpeggios were really nice with the harp and the flutes you used sounded great, the melodies on those were sounding very nice. All in all, the sound quality of all the instruments was very good and that's what one of the main things were, it was very pleasurable to listen to. And is that the GarageBand piano? How did you do that with it? Tell me! :P

Great song B-Kp. It's your best no doubt... although Clashbade Castle may have a better melody.

BK-Pianist, I ADORE the Honeybee Mountain theme! You really made the effort I see :D It's got so much going on, it's epic and it sort of touches both on Grant's BK and DK styles while adding your own awesome flurish. So far I must say Honeybee Mountain (Daytime and Nighttime respectivley) has the best music in this game so far :D They both feel very complete together. Even if this game never gets finished, you can surely use this for an online album or something. That would be spectacular.

I sort of imagines you having level cut half a hemisphere off and have it so that you swim in parts of the cell and the walls are solid on the side but the other parts you can walk into inner parts of the cell. Just a thought. :)

It's surprising how professional it sounds, well done! Maybe it's a bit too 'industrial' at parts though? This is a natural cell, right? So it shouldn't sound metallic? I heard a bit of Grunty's Industries too.

Now, on to the game itself. The music is fantastic but I'm starting to lose faith in this project. I've not seen any demo yet a member named 'Skill' at RWC can create a short 3D demo of his 3D fan game within a week. I would like to see a demo of TCJ soon...

We would have a demo if we had enough concept for a level.

But, can't we atleast see a walk animation? It seems like nothing has been done.

New tune is cool ;) I always saw this project as kind of BK-Pianists little solo "fan soundtrack" for his fictional Banjo game. If the game gets done or not, I don't really mind. If there was to be a game featuring this music it would be awesome, but I wouldn't mind just having a fan soundtrack being released either :)

I too would like to possess them...

I like this a lot. The only thing, though, is that it seems to fall back on the total Banjo feel. One of the things I liked about Honeybee Mountain was that it was Banjo-y, but at the same time, it was also your own style. Eukaryotopia, while it DOES have a nice theme, sounds awful similar to LOGBox...

Listening to the quality, they're most likely not soundfonts.

Sekna
19th April 2010, 09:36 PM
What would they most likely be then? B-Kp told me they were soundfonts with samples from the NaB orchestra.

Bradlestix

So we need people do design the levels? I can do that, if that's the case. By the way, I put some of my concepts in my thread at TCJ forums.

Don't worry, B-Kp has done Honeybee Mountain, just when he has the time I need him to tell me is he wants rough/flat terrain and the different heights, that's all.

WOW I would REALLY appreciate those. I hope he does give them out.

Or where did he get the samples? They're the Prague Philharmonic.

Every sound I used in that song are soundfonts and midi instruments. You'd be amazed at what you can do with those sounds. I would give out these sounds, but unfortunately I can't. You can get them, however, if you have GarageBand or Logic. Look for the "Jam Packs". They sell for $100 a pack. I use the "Orchestra" and "World Music" Pack. I still wanna get more sound packs.

I'm glad you all liked it, however (:

You used the Jam Packs? Imma buy meself a few. Unless I can somehow get the ones from school cheaper.

And thanks Bobby, I'll start right away. I have a much better vision now.

I think we really need to show the public some simple animations and models. Sekna, what have you got done?

He did a good job, but we can't use lightwave models, and they need to be reasonably low poly.
But I really like how well he's done it. :D

Oh and B-Kp, I had a music assignment to do that was due in about a couple of days that I got so I didn't get much done. I'm doing more now though.

I've seen this before awhile ago, and while I do like it, I guess, I think it requires work- the eyes, for example, aren't exactly Banjo-y with them being spread apart like that, or with the things around them.

OK it's achievable, there's also a tutorial I found for making it look like TF2.
I was thinking we should go for a "painterly" style though. But it's just what I've been thinking for my game I think.
I honestly prefer the Prince of Persia (http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/890/890172/e3-2008-prince-of-persia-4-screens-20080715053150813_640w.jpg) style to the Simpsons Game (http://images.gamersyde.com/gallery/public/6710/1258_0007.jpg)/Wind Waker (http://rhornbek.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/zelda-wind-waker.jpg) style.

I think i prefer to stay with what we've got- OR we could just go with the a more classic banjo look.

ALSO, we have someone offering to help. He can do 3-D design and maybe level design. Here's what he can do:
"Rocko"- a baddie BanjoBoy123 came up with for the scrapped world "Icyrock Cavern" (http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz86/xXmedranizzleXx/1RockoScreenAngles.jpg)

Pretty much, yes. I wanna have the quality of Nuts and Bolts mixed with the style of the originals. Imagine if Nuts and Bolts was filled with characters with googly eyes and natural environments (as opposed to the mechanical ones), and thts what I want to aim for.

I've been mucking around with making landforms in Maya and textures in Photoshop. What do you guys think?

1 (http://www.seknasoft.com/random_uploads/Renders/Experiments/HBM_LandForms/1.png)
2 (http://www.seknasoft.com/random_uploads/Renders/Experiments/HBM_LandForms/2.png)

4 (http://www.seknasoft.com/random_uploads/Renders/Experiments/HBM_LandForms/4.png)

NB: I forgot to make the mountain seamless the right way, I lazily did a pattern mode in PS which moved bits of it around to make it reasonably seamless... if you guys think it's not good enough I'll do it the right way.

This?

who's point man here? one person needs to start laying out tasks for each person on the list on the first page.

it seems as though there are a number of people here who are able to contribute, but it will take a single person to coordinate them.

I have seen many, many projects fail because of lack of structure (or skill) and unless someone steps up and flat-out says "hey X, you do this and hey Y, you do this other thing" it's going to fail just like all of the others. Hell, I even started an ran a fan project once, but it turned out I was the only one doing any work and the other "team" members enjoyed watching instead of contributing.
