Out in about in Jiggopolis!
Jiggpolis is a vegas-esque city (but cleaner) with a strip of hotels. Each hotel has a theme that represents the level that is within. To access the level, you must gain a certain amount of jiggy's to get the key to the level (or room).

Items:

Jiggy's allow you to access the level, you must gain a certain amount of jiggy's to get the key to the level (or room).

Notes play a more major roll in this game. With the professor's advanced technology, Banjo and Kazooie's moves alone won't be enough to go against him. So we introduce a new element to banjo, something that can be purchased with notes (read about that below).

Gadgets, yes, gadgets play a key role in the game. They are vital for certain battles and tasks. These can be purchased from Klungo- oh, erm... Professsor Klungo. Yes, there are several gadgets to be bought such as the Jiggoblaster or the Mecha-Monocle.

Costumes are still in debate, it might be a fun thing though! Lets go back to the part where Banjo and Kazooie are now celebrities. Costumes, which can be bought with glowbo's (guess who's selling em'), will be disguises for Banjo and Kazooie when walking around the city. But choose wisely not all costumes can hold up well, and may give away your identity, allow the Jiggarazzi to attack you!

We need all the help we can get, so feel free to help out! It could take a while, but if you're interested, plz help! ^_^

A mildly interesting concept. The rearranging sounds like it could get annoying sometimes though.

What kind of help are you looking for? Just programming?

And I'm looking for people who are creative and give good idea's i believe lupaie is going to help with all the programing and such...

Could you make it a side scroller? The hub world should be top down for clarity, but could the levels be side scrolling? I've always wanted a Banjo Side scroller...

B-Kpianist
12th August 2008, 02:37 AM
oh- it's actually going to be bigger than a side scroller. Sorry :(
It's going to be 3d, here's a sketch of one of the levels (not official, just an idea):

Does anyone know if the syntax of crystal space 3d is similar to C++ or is easy to learn if you know C++?

Because if I can learn it without a year or two of effort, I'll help with the programming of this game.

EDIT: I can also do some 3d modeling/animating. What quality do you want this, like N64, modern, or what?

EDIT (once again): Are you talking about CELstart or Crystal Space? They're both on the same page.

I'd like modern type graphics, I don't expect nuts and bolts quality (even though thatd be awesome). What do you use for 3D modeling? And I actually don't know what program we're actually going to use at the moment. Lupaie said he would help with that part once he finished this other project. But if you can do 3D modeling and animation,I'd love to see what you can do :)

Either program for the game I think... The gamemy friends in I are making making is in c++ so I would assume it would be in c++ or very similar too it. :p

I think since it is his first game, he should use CELstart, which allows you not to know as many coding skills.

But he should go for crystal space if he gets a very powerful/ smart coder. :D

Best luck to ya B-Kp :)

Oh. Okay. It was the only BK thing I thought I could make quickly.

Yeah. You probably need a specialized modeler and a specialized programmer. Like you need at least one person that only programs and at least one person for each modeling position (world, character, prop, etc.). Just someone who can lead each group.

if you want, i am sure i can help with the concept art and the concepts of the levels and characters in general
i like to think i am more of an "idea man" than anything, so i will help wherever needed

by the way, it would be cool if we can bring in some of the ideas from the concept art contest here

Edit: for starters, i was thinking that spiral mountain can slowly start to clear up and become less nightmarish as you obtain more jiggies, if it isn't too much trouble to do so

judging by your user name, i would assume you are looking for payment
well you will have to discuss that one with B-K :p

if it is possible, i would like to revive the idea of a castle level for this game
i am already trying to rework my Clash Blade Castle idea so that i can hopefully eliminate the flaws that were hanging around in it and now that it is not involved in individual compitition, everybody can pitch their ideas for it too
but of course you would get the final say as you are the one spear heading the project

a few more things before i go:
i noticed you made a beach level for your contest entry so i am assuming a lot of the elements from it got carried over to Layback Beach, am i correct?

and is the colored honeybee mountain the same as the uncolored one you posted before? it didn't come up for me so i didn't see it

i really need to get some sleep, i am starting notice how disorginized my post is
i will talk more about this when i wake up

Edit: just one more thing, i was playing god of war II and it got me thinking about the disney version of hercules
once i thought of that, i thought that i might be cool to have a Mt. Olympus style level
i haven't thought this out too well yet, but hey that is what the developemental stages are for :)

Eh, this is what I'll do. I'll download the program, make a simple game, upload it, then uninstall the program. So long as my dad doesn't find out, I should be fine ;)

To anser your question: C++ is not the language I know how to use the most, but I'm pretty familiar with what you can do with it, so, yeah.

a castle would be cool! We've never seen a castle in a banjo game and i've never actually seen hercules, sooo, can i have a pic?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hercules_(1997_film)
it was one of my favorite movies when i was a kid, but it is highly inaccurate
the cartoony style of the movie seems like it could easily be molded into something for a banjo game

i was thinking that, you could travel around a Mt. Olympus like level and help some of the gods with certain tasks
it could involve traveling to the underworld and even to a earth like area

this idea i am kind of iffy about, since i would like it to be a little more accurate, but the actual mythology is a hell of alot darker

if you have played the kingdom hearts stages based on this movie, i imagine it going something like that
this seems like one that could easily get cut out in the final product, but it seems like it would be a good follow up to cloud cookoo land as a final stage
just an idea though so if anyone has suggestions, be sure to share them

Edit: how do you go about learning C++ ?

They made blender2crystal. It exports the files to I format crystal space can read.

EDIT: Just to be safe, check if it can read .obj or .x files.

Ugh can't find where to find what file types it can read, I'll keep looking.

Couldn't really find out what it can read, but found this. (http://b2cs.delcorp.org/index.php/First_steps_with_blender2crystal) Some tips on how to export stuff (I think :P)

If you're looking for someone who can do landscapes, then I might be able to help you in that department, though you'll need to tell me what kind of polygon count you're looking for (BK/BT or N&B numbers). This is something I'm doing for a Zelda project. (http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d54/moduskai/ZELDA/OOT%20MOD/maxside_fixed_UVs.png) It's obviously incomplete, but it's just to give you an idea of my work.

Will the castle be medieval, creepy, how should the atmosphere be for that one? I'd love a creepy one (because i love writing creepy/spooky songs ^_^)

i designed my original castle idea with more of a medieval feel to it
i will see if i can draw up some pics in a little while to show you what i meen
if you want a more spooky feel to it feel free to do so, but i think the medieval one is a bit more fresh since there have already been plenty of spooky levels in 3D platformers (BK, Mario 64, DK 64 among others)
and if the castle doesn't turn up with a spooky theme, i am sure we can do something to put one in anyways
its your call on this one

by the way, i don't know who did it off the top of my head, but one of the contest entries was of a child's playroom, which i think would work wonders in a game like this, just an idea though

and a name suggestion for the candy level: Bubble Gum Drop Hills or Gum Drop Hills

i am starting to get real excited about this :D

and that pic looks really good Tee-Hee :)

Tee-Hee! YOU'VE GOT THE JOB!!! ^_^ That's seriously awesome. of course that's a bit N64 esque, but its still a great way to map out what the levels will look like before the final! Thank you for that :)

And I've been thinking about Ballistic Bedroom suggested by BanjoBoy123. I was thinking about replacing Tick-Tock Clouds with that one, and the music i wrote is CCL esque, so it'd fit perfect.

Kingpaco, If i have to do a medieval theme, i need some inspiration. I have some idea's for it, but there'll definitely be a spooky area :D Maybe a deserted church/graveyard in the back of the castle or something. I'll try drawing some pics as well.

I think there should be a Grunty level!. Statues of her all over the place. Her childhood, the weight that were dropped on her 2 sisters, a destroyed Hag 1 and broomstick, etc.! B.O.B.! Klungo portraits. Grunty's house commplete with family portrait! Things that Brentilda told us actually coming to life! this could be the last level before the fight?

I call it...

Grunty Galore
or
Winkybunion Wonder
or
Grimey Green Grotto / Green Grime Grotto

haha, you like??

It's only at it's start. So it's not much, but i'll be finishing it up. I wrote it that particular way so that way it's not too spooky, or too cheery, but right in the middle, kinda sad-ish. So we could have either cheery or spooky variations throughout the level. Do you like?

you are welcome :)
the church/graveyard sounds really good to me
i was thinking of having a part where you somehow get placed in a dungeon and need to escape, so maby there can be a secret passageway between one of the cells in the dungeon and an unmarked grave or something allowing for an escape
the creepy music could easily be used in the underground grave portion, and i think it would be cool to have it constantly raining over the graveyard, with the music of the outside of the castle going from being cheery to a more gloomy feel when you get near the graveyard

http://www.freewebs.com/abysswarrior/
here is a link to my freewebs page which has my entry for the contest (the two links above the chat box)
now some of that stuff was a bit poorly planned out but i think we can easily rework it
the description portion was a bit lacking in detail as i was trying to fit it within the somewhat flexible length limit, so i left some details out
i will try to produce a more "complete" description when i wake up this morning

and that music sounded perfect for the inside of the castle, great job and keep going with it o-O
man i have made some long posts in this thread...

Edit: i just thought of something else with the music
the story of the level has to do with grunty invading and taking over, which would play well into the story and on top of that the music really emphisizes the fact that the king is not on his rightful throne... i love how this is coming together :)

The BK Zubba

Ahh more level ideas!!

Okay picture this. The world has been so twisted, so demented, so... Gruntified... if you will, that it's no longer safe for Banjo and Kazooie to travel above ground...
So I bring to you...
Bottles' Burrows!
A seemingly endless maze of twists and turns. Maybe a mine-like atmosphere? But not too close to a mine that it becomes a mine level, you know what I mean?

Level Number 2
Grunty takes the duo back to their least pleasent memory... High School. I call this one...
Honeycomb High
or
Honeybear High
What do you think? Too cheesy? I don't know...

Oh and haha... I knew that MMM is her house... just sort of, forgot. ha!

B-Kpianist
14th August 2008, 03:40 PM
well that is the perfect way to bring back MMM, i'm glad you suggested that. And I actually did music for tunnels called "Tip-Top Tunnels". Not sure if we'll use it in the game though, maybe, maybe not, but i really wanna focus on the grunty level.

And i'm glad the castle music came out so well Kingpaco and that you liked it! ^_^ I almost did a different kind of song, but i ended up doing something completely different. I'll keep going with it :D

pgpm10
14th August 2008, 03:44 PM
Hmmm, I got an Idea for the Castle Level...

Banjo and Kazooie are tired after all that they've done (maybe we can make the time advance after each level, and by this time it's already night) and decide to head home, but Grunty has taken their home hostage, and, instead, is her own castle.

So they go through the level, beat a knight-like version of her (that's not really her), go through the castle, but Grunty uses the crystal jiggy and it's spell fails, destroying the castle-world. B and K are stuck in a weird between-worlds area and have to defeat the actual Grunty (but not for good, though they don't know this).

They go to sleep, but are waken up by Grunty, who has somehow resored the crystal jiggy's power, defeat her again, while in the battle she uses the crystal jiggy to take them through all the levels, with baddies attacking them. Then, there's two options:

It could be the final battle
It could not be the final battle
(depends on whether the castle level is or isn't the last level)

If

It is the final battle: Grunty dies (obviously)
It isn't the final battle: It was just a Gruny clone and the real one is sitll alive.

There, my ideas for the castle level.

B-Kpianist
14th August 2008, 04:16 PM
well they can't go home, cuz remember, "spiral mountain... is demented". It's in the story

The BK Zubba
14th August 2008, 04:23 PM
okay i have an idea. i think we should ask Princess J to make a design of the "Winkybunion Family Portrait" to hang somewhere throughout the level. t'd be great, there would be grunty, blobelda, mingella, brentilda, and the parents! now, if you don't want to do parents, it could just be the 4 girls, or it could have the parents legs and no face/body

pgpm10
14th August 2008, 04:25 PM
well they can't go home, cuz remember, "spiral mountain... is demented". It's in the story
But maybe by that time of the game, it's more or less restored. Why? Grunty keeps using the crystal jiggy and using it and using it so it's powers decrease more and more each time, so Spiral Mountain isn't so demented anymore.

B-Kpianist
14th August 2008, 04:31 PM

kingpaco
14th August 2008, 07:06 PM
i have more ideas for the castle music you composed B-K
it should be the primary dungeon music, but also it could go with the whole interior of the castle until the king returns to the throne, which would be when you have finished clearing out the castle of its various big baddies

imagine it like king jingaling's throne room. it starts off with that really dinamic sound until he is turned into a zombie, when it takes a gloomy/sad tone. then when he is revived, it goes back to the same begining music
since the music sounds kind of dungeony, i think it would be cool if it could remain there rather then dissapearing when the castle is back to normal. i really like the style of that song too :)

i am leaving the house for most of the night, so i won't be able to talk much more until later, but i will try to make revisions to the original plans for this level by the time i get back

BK Zubba, listened to your track, and sorry to say, but it's nothing 'special' to me. That doesn't mean it sounds bad, no, it sound good instead, but it's just pretty generic, rather a Grunty's Lair arrangement. BKpianist could use it for cinematics or as Grunty's Theme maybe.

also please no .aif files, they're way to large, I mean, this song already is 23,3 MB, whereas it as .mp3 it would be 2 to 3 MB, and as .OGG even less. Then again, always better than .wav

B-Kpianist
14th August 2008, 10:45 PM
winkybunion world is good, but i think it'd fit better as part of cut-scene or something. Nice job for a first composition (well arrangement actually), my first composition was this weird and random piano song. I got better by studying (listening) to the way grant puts together his music. I followed his music for a while (that's why my older music is so similar to Banjo songs), but recently, i've been able to develop my own style while keeping the same banjo feel to my music.

@mebecj: i guess we could make it part of the story. "Grunty's new assistant comes up with the plan to steal the crystal jiggy, to create a new body and finally take down the bear and bird duo". I've got a really cool idea for who the sidekick is too, it'll make a nice story-twist ^_^

Haha and yea I'm sorry about the .aif file. I'm using Garageband on my Mac, and it automatically exports them as .aif files. But I can convert them in iTunes for future songs.

B-KP: Ha well I guess I have a sturdy foundation to become an "arranger" then. Haha! You really enjoyed that garbage though? I mean honestly, it was horrendous! this sounds magnificent man, well done

Zubba: i didn't get a chance to listen to your first song on account of the file size, but the second one sounds kind of cool
i can see it as being like some sort of final fantasy underwater theme

i have been working on my design for the castle level for the past few hours and i have more detail on the dungeon and the graveyard among other things
it is a modified version of my first design so the map link on my freewebs page isn't too far off as of the current design right now
i am going to try to type up Clash Blade Castle (working name) V1.1 soon and i will post it when it is finished

Edit: i don't expect any of these ideas to float, but i came up with a few new "forms for grunty incase you need 'em
i was thinking Gruntenstine (even though she would obviously look like the monster and not Dr. Frankenstine himself) or vampire grunty possibly
another idea was that she can stay a head and take control of whoever her new miion is

yeah that's a good idea- but how bout this:
so she'd start in her original form, then she'd start to lose her body once you destroy 1/2 of the spell, and then at the almost done point of the game, she'd be bones like in B-T, and then at the end, you defeat her, and she is once again a head ^_^

Sounds good! Plus, i've decided to make this take place between B-T and NaB, so it'd make a lot of sense

Hello B-Kpianist,

A few things you should consider before starting this project. I've actually had a development team working on a 3d project: RWP game for some time. Problem is, we weren't capable of completing the game because most of our developers weren't motivated enough to do so. Make sure all your work is organized, I cannot stress that enough, and that everyone has access to it. Besides that, try to do things in a linear fashion. Don't have some developers working on level 5 and some on level 3. You start getting unorganized that way. Instead, keep everyone working on level 1 until it's finished, then move onto level 2.

One thing You should really reconsider is the amount of levels / and the level size. Trust me, Project: RWP had half the levels and it has been put on hold due to lack of development. 12 levels just seems like it would be a bit of an over-haul.

Anyways, I wish you good luck and hope to see that this project is completed. I would help, but I am already busy making games for Archaic studios :( .

B-Kpianist
15th August 2008, 05:16 AM
well thanks for your advice, we're only at the brainstorming stages right now, so we'll be sure to keep everything organized. As you know, the brainstorming stage is very big and open, so it's not going to stay organized, but once we get it going, we'll take it step at a time, and make sure to ;)

I'm trying to keep em' motivated by keeping this topic alive, and making sure it stays alive, and coming up with something new every day, fresh idea's that open up discussion.

Levels... hmmm, how many do you suggest? the highest at 10 levels, or maybe 7 levels?

Again, thanks for the advice, and i'll be sure to absolutely remember everything you said :)

The BK Zubba
15th August 2008, 05:22 AM

yeah, since this whole thing is for fun, we can really go as far as we want with it. i would like to see 15 levels in it, but we will just have to see how far this goes

B-k and mebecj: i liked both of your ideas for grunty and they both sound like they could work well

i am a bit busy trying to perfect the flow of gameplay for the castle level, but if you need me to start brainstorming for another stage of section, all you have to do is ask :)
i have been thinking about the others a little bit, but they currently aren't my primary focus as i know you have a better idea in your head for them then i do B-K

i have a question: how in depth do you think banjo's moves will be?
my current build of the castle stage involves grenade eggs and the key move from the 2006 Banjo trailer along with an entirely diffent set of moves for the squirrel transformation
i might be getting a bit carried away with this, so i would like to know if these are within reason

finale notepad, but i have smouvy use fruityloop studio to make em' sound banjoey

I have garage band, but i don't understand it at all :P

AND ONE MORE THING!

I suggest that we hold a "level of the day" kinda topic, within the topic. Like the first day will be all about *insert level here*, and the next day will be all about *insert level here*. How about it? I wanna get into the castle idea more. This whole thing can happen either while we're brainstorming or once the actual game starts being made. It's your call ;)

and to answer your question Kp: I'm not to sure, i was thinking of having some of the main old moves, but for new moves, ehm, the chainsaw move from the 06 trailer would be awesome! a spin attack where he grabs kazooie out of the backpack and spins her around as an attack. Maybe a few more- there could be 8 new moves (1 per level) i guess

The BK Zubba

the castle should wait about 2 or 3 days time before we discuss it though, because it will take me a little while to right up all the current details about it

once i get the general description and look of the level, then it will be put up for discussion so we can make any adjustments as needed

Edit: those two moves you described would be awesome and i have already started thinking of a way to implement the chainsaw move
if we can retain the egg aiming thing from BT and add the key move, that should work for the castle nd since i am going to try to add the key move, i think we should keep that in mind for later levels

by the way i see this as one of the middle levels, so it would be at around the same point as BGS and FP were, but that could change at the drop of a hat

Here, I had a go at Banjo Universe (http://www.mediafire.com/?8ejz2y0bxoa)

It's just a first test, this IS how you want it, no? and yes, I am aware I added some things and changed a few instruments, so say it if you don't agree with something I did and I'll change it :)

kingpaco

that music doesn't sound too Banjo like to me, but that doesn't stop it from sounding awesome :)
that sounds really like a final fantasy underwater song, kind of reminds me of macalania forest from FFX
lets see what else you can do Zubba ;)

before we start the stage discussion, i came up with the funny idea of including Napper from BK in the castle level and once again he is holding a jiggy

Edit: the banjo universe music really reminds me jolly rodger's lagoon and gloomy galleaon (i think that is the name) from DK64

Edit 2: how do you want to do the jinjo system? if it is like the BK system, then i can stop trying to find another place to put the lastjiggy and it can be a jinjo reward

it sounds kind of banjo-ey, but there is something missing
i don't know exactly what it is, but if you can find whatever that little element is, i know this will work well (not that it wouldn't already)

put it this way, it is resembles it more than slightly but it isn't quite the same yet if that makes any sense
keep at it and i kknow you will have it :)

I only create 2d levels for video games here is one for tile game. Click on load level and cut and paste this code to play my level.http://austevoll.sekkelsten.net/spill/java2/ That's the game for the level.

It's just a first test, this IS how you want it, no? and yes, I am aware I added some things and changed a few instruments, so say it if you don't agree with something I did and I'll change it :)

THE LEVEL OF THE DAY IS BANJO UNIVERSE!
A few things though, you know how you replaced that one space sounding instrument with a trumpet, can you use a different sounding instrument? something more soft and space like. if you can, bring out the marimba a bit more on certain parts. and last, is it possible to take the bassoon an octave down? It's pretty high up there. I Love what you did with this song, and it sounds amazing!

So today, we'll discuss Banjo Universe ^_^

My idea was, since it's called banjo universe, we have a new area, but also, a bunch of elements from the old banjo games floating around. Like the Rusty Bucket or the Big Top Tent. And for the new area... haven't really thought of it.

@abyss: but we're making a 3D game :\

The BK Zubba

haha only kidding

the click clock wood tree is a must! the snowman from freezeezy peak too! haha but we need something more original than a replica of Banjo Land

kingpaco
15th August 2008, 09:38 PM
i like the idea of having some of the old stuff floating around, but i don't know if it should be entirely based on that
Gobi should eventually make his way here to try to find some peace and quiet :p by the way, i am going to put gobi in the castle level

The BK Zubba
15th August 2008, 09:40 PM
haha please have him dressed up in a suit of armor or something and when you go up to talk to him he should be like

"I didn't sign up for this"

hahaha well anyway i think the new area should be based on what people are speculating is going to be in BK:N&B

B-Kpianist
15th August 2008, 09:42 PM
gobi in the castle? cool! and i said there'd be a new area for the level as well.

@BK Zubba: The levels come back as planets instead. I'll draw up a few idea's ;)

The BK Zubba
15th August 2008, 09:45 PM
ooo okay that would explain banjo UNIVERSE. got it.

i dont expect it to be every single level from the previous games.. is it?? that would be waaaay too massive to have individual planets for each level of the previous game... all packed into 1 actual level!! plus the new area?? wow

kingpaco
15th August 2008, 09:50 PM

are you thinking that you will be traveling in space or is banjo just going to be jumping from planet to planet like mario galaxy?

and there should be some race through the stars for a jiggy. mr. fit maby?

Edit: i don't meen to start turning this to the castle again, but the v1.1 maps are up (the almost finished set)

I think the bassoon part sounds fine it can play in that range. *Though Id never play it im to lazy to remeber the highnote fingerings after a certain note* The Recorder might work if your looking for a softer and space like instriment. But if there was a way to do some dynamic changes Id sugest some cresendos and decresendos.

Hmm so today's Banjo Universe alright!
B-Kp have you thought of any baddies for the place yet or are you still thinking of what to put in it?
I was thinking another form of those eels in CC that would fling out of the pipes and try to take a chunk of Banjo. Perhaps coming out of holes on a planets surface or even the craters of a comet/asteroid?
I'll try and draw one, should it look alien or reptilian... or how bout both?

Zubba: i will listen to the updated version in a little while, but i have to get off the computer really soon

for banjo universe:
-we should make constilations in the form of old banjo characters
-the aliens from BT should appear here in some form
-one enemy we should have is a mutated, more alien looking version of the twinkly munchers from BK

i will come up with more later

kingpaco
16th August 2008, 01:33 AM
it sounds like it could be a song for a highway stage in something like mario kart. speeding it up does suit it more

i have a small suggestion, could you add a few more little noises here and there? i was actually thinking of the rusty bucket bay music when i listened to this, and do you remember the little whistles and "weird" noises in that song? if you do, i think this song would do well to add some car horns or sirens or just some little miscillanious noises to give it that little extra zest

i think that is what really defined the banjo music to me. all those little sounds gave it that little extra bit of flavor

it feels like your songs keeps improving, so keep at it man :)
all it really needs is that little extra spice, at least that is what i think

i like the site man :) i am Abyss Warrior on the forums

as far as Banjo universe goes:
- i am still pushing the race across the planets. this would be a nice place to race mr. fit or... (shudders) canary mary
the only problem i had with canary mary is that she was so damn hard
- the aliens from BT of course would show up here
- new alien enemies would show up, another one i am thinking of is a green little alien creature that jumps out of craters and bites you. i thought it could look similar to the twinkly muncher and the thing that bites you in the swampy area of terrydactyl land but at the same time different. it would also have a lot of eyes.
- a portion of the level should take place inside a rocket that has broken down (their mission is to drop all the unsold copies of grabbed by the ghoulies onto the sun :p seriously that is fun game though) and you can help them to get their rocket in working condition again.
- there should also be a place called jinjo planet which explains the weird looking little guys' origins :p i don't know if you want to take that one seriously
- the guy from Jetpack should make a cameo appearance. maby you can help him in a game of Jetpack? (imagines banjo in his place... firing eggs with kazooie instead of lasers :p)

that is all for now

Edit: about the rocket idea, maby clanker could have been turned into a rocket since the end of BK?

Deltonax: thanks for the friend request :)

sorry for the double post but i am leaving when i wake up and i won't be back until late tomorrow night so i thought i would share these ideas for the bedroom

- building block fort/ building. Did you ever have those toy blocks with letters and numbers on each of the 6 sides when you were kids? Well this is what one of the buildings should be made out of. It could serve as a code chamber as well since you would be able to use the letters. you could push the blocks to form your cheat codes, neat idea huh?
- childrens slide play area. A small slide that little kids can climb on, I will try to find a pic later to show you what I am thinking.
- Lego buildings
- Enemies similar to the guys you fight around the block tower in DK64. they had walking dice and dominoes and things like that so we should do something similar. i was thinking walking lego guys and toy dinosaurs among other things.
- a small tv and VCR (it has been ages since i have used one of those). mr. pants can be on the tv and video tapes with referances to other Rare works can be seen here. Did any of you ever get something stuck in the VCR? i didn't personally, but my parents always warned me about such a thing. i think Banjo should enter and get stuck in the VCR where he has to play some mini game to escape
- possibly small themed areas like witchy world from BT (example: western, space, dinosaurs). although that may be to similar to WW.
- possibly something having to do with rockem' sockem' robots
- something having to do with army guy toys
- gotta add the slinky :)
- mr. potato head mini game?

and yes, most of this is taken from experience :D

EDIT: Can't seem to build the file, or, if it's building it, it's really taking it's time.

EDIT 2: Well no wonder it didn't load, I was running the build for a different version of MSVC.

EDIT 3: Managed to make it load, will try to save it as an .exe and upload it on the forums.

EDIT 4: Apparenty, some .lib files are outdated, and MSVC is trying to fix them. It's probably going to take around half an hour.

EDIT 5: No, didn't work. The program is too old for my version of MSVC, apparently.

I have the animator in mind, so it would need to include kazooie... I think

In order for the character animator to have as little trouble editing as possible, All characters need to be made in a basic pose (arms straight at shoulder level, legs slightly apart) so that's probably how I'll do it.

I worded that wrong... I would like a good part of the project time for me to work on the main characters (as opposed to enemies and random NPCs)

I figured it was common sence that I was doing main characters. Feel free to let the other guy do the characters; he's a fantastic modeler and animator.

As for the above message, I worded that wrong, too. I meant it like this: "I'm wanting to give the animator as little trouble as possible when working with my models."

so- how would that be done? How do you make it as easy as possible for the animator?

All characters need to be made in a basic pose (arms straight at shoulder level, legs slightly apart) so that's probably how I'll do it.

sorry to interupt this little sub-topic but i have some stuff for the levels

banjo universe
- i am really liking the clanker rocket idea. this could help explain his absence in BT (Rare didn't give us an explanation so we are making our own ^_^) maby he is in peices in banjo land because of some wicked crash upon reentry to earth o-O.

Ballistic Bedroom
- seeing as how it is a bedroom, we should have a child's bed in here. i was thinking it would be a race car bed, but then that could mess up my next idea.
- under the bed there would be somewhat of a "toy graveyard", where broken and forgotten toys gather. you could end up doing some sort of mission for them. i was thinking that you would help guid them through a maze of toys and junk below the bed to the outside where they would return to their normal lives.
- if that doesn't work out, i thought there should be some sort of maze of toys
- similar to the room with the stacks of boxes in Grunty Industries, there should be stacks of legos, blocks, boxes and whatever else we can think of to help further define the landscape. the floor would of course be flat, but we can put enough stuff on the floor to make the terrain a little less plain.
- i still like the army guy idea. you could proceed through military like operations through the land of the toys and help them take bases and stuff. i don't think this one should be overused though, as the focus should be on other tasks
- i really got excited when thinking about this one. did you ever play with hotwheels cars? what we should do is have a point where you race in little cars along makeshift tracks made from all sorts of different enviorments. for example, oyu could start on a shuttle loop area and make your way to a prehistoric area, a jungle area, and whatever else we can think of. maby you could race boggy here? for that matter, the whole boggy family could be here, like how mrs. boggy and the kids were in witchy world. this could be a vacation destination for them or something? and the cars would look more banjo-ey of course and less realistic. here are some pics of what i am talking about

wow- these things get really detailed don't they?

Well, i'm trying to get people from SpiralMountain to help as well. I've found once concept artist (that's pending) and a musician (also pending). It sucks that i can't find texture artists and programers :(

Oh- and just to let y'all know, i'll be in Hawaii from next Saturday to the Following Saturday, so i might be on whenever it's night time at the hotel, but not often. sooooo yeah, when i get back, just gimme an update on where everyone is at :) thx! (i'll still be on the rest of this week though)

[EDIT] Crap Kp posted while i wrote this, let me read it so i can reply :P

[EDIT AGAIN] WOW Kp! I LOVE YOUR IDEAS! They sound really cool, the boggy race is genius, the soldier thing can be kinda like a war against Tediz (just on a smaller scale). I had an idea for a lego area as well so that works out well, and the under the bed thing is awesome! I can do a spooky mix (yes!) of B.B. Thanks for all those awesome ideas. One other idea i had for B.B. was having a toy castle or something along those lines.

alright, maby we can take control of the level a day thing as a group?
we can brainstorm ideas while you are gone, so it will still be productive
and i mentioned something on page 13 which i didn't specify

"Enemies similar to the guys you fight around the block tower in DK64. they had walking dice and dominoes and things like that so we should do something similar. i was thinking walking lego guys and toy dinosaurs among other things."
i was talking about Frantic Factory from DK64 in case you were wondering

kingpaco
17th August 2008, 05:09 AM
it does seem very FF- ish doesn't it?
the lighter atmospheere will make it far different i am sure

Edit: how would you go about learning to create/apply textures?
if it isn't too difficult, i could at least give it a shot.
and i was looking into possibly becomeing a programer but i don't know much of anything about it. since this is suposed to use C++, i could attempt to learn that as well but only if it isn't going to take a long time to learn it
i would hope that we can recruit a texture artist and a programmer but i am not sure if that is going to happen :(

Right... I completely missed those level's days, didn't I? Here are my ideas:

Banjo-Universe:
-Cptn. Blubber needs to be in Banjo Universe (potentially stuck in the UFO)
-Super Mario Galaxy spoofs galore!
-There should be a main planet that all the other planets revolve around. At the core of that planet should be the boss.
-I like combining ideas, so maybe a race around the planets should be ran against the guy from jetpack

Ballistics Bedroom:
-The boss should obviously be in the toybox
-I like the idea of going in the VCR. (BTW, I HAVE gotten a tape stuck in the VCR, and it sucks). Maybe you see whoever is on the TV needs to be in the VCR. Maybe it should be a TV VCR Combo?
-Tinkertoys? anyone remember those? There could be a makeshift tinkertoy slingshot that will launch you onto the bed or into the toybox.
-There should be a jiggy collected if you put in the contra code on a NES controller. Of course there will be a hint to that.

Misc.
-Due to the small amount of levels, every level should have a boss.

Ballistic Bedroom ideas will be posted tomorrow don't have a lot of time right at this moment B-Kp.

@mebecj: I like those! I don't really like the VCR part though... I'm gonna try coming up with a boss.

@KazooieforHire: Since not a lot of people weren't on today, we can continue discussing B.B. tomorrow as well

I didn't mean a boss in the VCR... like, for example, Mr. Pants on the TV, and Mr. Pants makes you play a minigame before you can leave.

Toy that scared me when I was little... I don't remember... I guess you're using this for boss ideas?

good ideas
BU
- cap'n blubber idea=win
- main planet would work well and the others could be more like moons
BB
- i wanted to implement a toy box but i wasn't sure how. this is the perfect place for a boss fight. good call :)
- i remember hearing about tinker toys but i can't seem to recall what they look like, so i will look them up in a second
- i like the contra code idea :p

new ideas
- connex could be used as well, i don't remember much about these, but they were little metal peices that could be used to make little contraptions
- there could be something having to do with a train set, kids still play with those right?

i don't think i was every really scared of any toys i saw as a little kid, but i know a lot of people who are afraid of clowns, maby a clown doll?

Edit: forgot this, there should be a lincoln log cabin somewhere
Edit 2: now i know what you are talking about with tinker toys and i do remember those
Edit 3:the toy city i dea is something i was throwing around there too, that is where the lincoln logs/ legos/ blocks/ tinker toys/ connex can come in
and the bottom link is kind of like the slide/play set idea i was talking about on page 13.. so we are on the same page here :)

Okay this is a bit tricky well chuckie the doll scared the hell out of me back then.
caution-Long story up ahead caution-:I had a lot of aunts and relatives that thought buying me a bear everytime they came would make me the happiest kid in the world. Well it kinda did and you can see where my love of bears came from(psst banjo :)) except a skinny clown bear with a jingling hat named Jaques. Just the way its eyes were positioned and the look of confusion on his face made me uncomfortable. You could swear he would watch you walk by and sneer since he had a really big snout and a huge physcotic smile. Don't make funny of me too much now i was only 7 :o!

@kp "connex could be used as well, i don't remember much about these, but they were little metal peices that could be used to make little contraptions" That idea=win that would be cool to implement like you have to build a bridge to reach a jiggy way up on a desk or something when there's no flight pad

The magnetic one. definitely.

Boss... A Techno? You know, the dog? probably creepy if you're tiny.

EDIT: Yes, I know the kid negates my toybox idea...

I didn't really expect the kid idea to float.

What about a tank controlled by the Army Men? That actually gives me an idea for the reason they're the only ones in the toybox...

Like the army men invaded the toybox and moved all the toys that were in there to under the bed, under which they built a toy city... It all comes together in my mind.

WAIT! I HAVE AN IDEA!

Why don't we have the lego area be where the boss is! We enter a certain area, theres a pile of lego's on the floor, and then the boss music starts, and the pile of lego's build into some type of boss!

Banjo: "Do you see a jiggy?"
