Well it's finally been unveiled. The thing that's been shrouded in mystery for months. Yes, I'm talking about the controller for the Revolution... or should I say, remote for the Revolution? It's way different than I would have imagined. I don't even know how I would start to use it... lol. :D But all in all that's probably a good thing, since we're all used to something that's been standard for over 20 years. So if you haven't seen it already, check it out at a major Nintendo news website like Gamespot or IGN and share your thoughts with the rest of us.

It looks so incredibly fun to use, I can't wait. This is going to allow for extremely precise and accurate controls... especially in the First-Person genre, which Nintendo will now have an obvious advantage in.
I just hope nobody makes any serious judgements until they have hands-on experience with it, because it'll likely be like the DS where everyone thought it was gimmiky, but turned out to be a blast to play with.

I must admit, my thoughts of what it'd look like were nowhere close to that. It's cool-looking and seems to be very easy to use. My only thoughts are on how it'll function in hectic games like a really rough Smash session.

My first thoughts were extremely skeptical, but now that I look at the possibilities, I'm liking it more and more. Apparently, the developers like it a lot too. That's the really important thing. The Nintendo Boards you ask? They are going to turn into MS Fanboys. It's already happening.

Duck Hunt here I come <3<3<3.
I'm worried about games like SSB:M. Other games I could live with, but I don't really see myself enjoy that style of play for a fighting game. Then again, I never used it so I can't really judge.
Admittingly, I think it could be a good system. It seems fun, and is different enough to add variety. However, I don't foresee the mainstream echo'ing my sentiment (in the US, anyway). I guess only time will tell.
EDIT: Hopefully they just release traditional controllers alongside the new model. That would make sense to me.

Well, I like. Plus I liked the idea of using it as a flashlight in a Rev sequel to Luigi's Mansion.
Though I wish IGN would show us some of those tech demos.

There are GC controller ports too. And yes, this looks like it will kick butt.

I'll be honest, I don't like it, I prefer common gameplay, or at least it would be good if they include a common controller with the other

For your veiwing pleasure...
1. Cant port games. Lets face it, Xbox 360 and PS3 have way more buttons, so I dont think porting games over will be easy. Publishers have to pay get games to work with other systems, and will be unwilling to do so with such a different setup0...
Eurogamer: How is the controller going to work with games that aren't designed specifically for the Revolution - multi-platform titles and so on?
jim Merrick: We're producing a classic-style expansion controller, based on traditional designs like the Gamecube controller. It's like a shell with a hole in the top into which you slot the freehand-style controller, and then you can play third-party ported games, and retro Nintendo games you've downloaded.
So there's that option - but even while it's inserted into the classic-style shell, the freehand controller will still be able to sense positioning and so on, so there are more options too.

I thought it looked odd at first, but after reading the article I'm convinced it'll be good. The B button being on back will make for a good trigger button in shooters, and with the second, smaller set of A and B buttons you'll easily be able to play NES games simply by turning the controller sideways. Plus that "classic shell" the Jinjo Jinjo mentioned will make hectic games like Smash Bros. easier to play, as well as classic games besides NES ones. And the article said the remote & analog stick attachment works pretty well, using the stick to walk, moving the remote to aim, and the buttons to shoot.

I loved that game to bits when I still had my NES! :D;;
Needless to say, the control is really unique! I've never seen anything quite like it myself. Looks like it'll be fun to use, but I'll probably be a bit confused on how to handle it at first. It's so different.

You can flip the controller sideways to be more normal. Notice that, if you did this, it would basically be an NES controller.

Yes... Im fine with what The Jinjo Jinjo said...
Is because it feels better to have new adventures, right?
But I also think the remote controller can be a good point to the big N...

But IT'S IMPOSIBLE TO CHANGE 20 YEARS OF GAMEPLAY...
Why?
Minjo
16th September 2005, 09:56 PM
Why?
What Im talking about is that it sounds strange to use a controller with 5 buttons to play new modern games, and control stick separately? I MEAN: COME ON! I'm not saying is bad, but I'm glad to hear what The jinjo jinjo said:
The are producing a classic style controller!

The analog stick and 3d levels completely changed the way games were played, and the worked rather splendidly, didn't it? Oh yes, 20 years of history can be changed ;) .
And I think I'm about to have a heart attack from joy. This remote device looks reeeeaaaaally good. I was worried about the lack of buttons, but it has already been stated that the remote can be plugged into a shell, so <3!
Plus it is shiny. I like shiny. Does it come in black?

I think it's very coo. I'll finally be able to play games with the entire family. plus Nintendo even comfirmed that the old games will in fact be downloadable. And not only that. Remember how Nintendo said that after Animal Crossings DS came out they'd activate Nintendo Wi-fi siganals? Wouldn't that that mean that the revolution and the DS would have internet through the air in a cell phone type fashion for free? That would mean that after you hook up your revolution you would be able to download right away?

This is nothing like I expected. I was expexting somthing like a controller, but a remote? Well, I'm excited to try something new. And like Andre and Gold Jinjo said, I have some skeptical thoughts, but I am not going to judge it untill I try it.

They're not changing the gameplay, they're changing the interaction. Otherwise, how do you think they're expecting us to play those 20 years of games with this controller?
Nobody's making anyone buy the Revolution. If people can't accept this, there's the PS3 and Xbox 360... cookie-cutter consoles with the same ingredients.

No. It has a somewhat similar shape, but the button placement is way different. The ONLY similarity I see is that they're both rectangles.

I am truly excited about this. It may not completely revolutionize gaming completely, but for what it is, it is a revolution. It completely is unique, and with an additional "normal" controller, it will be able to appeal to a larger audience. I think it will do well, but who knows. I'm rooting for Nintendo this next generation.
To deal with "It can't change 20 years of gaming", like said earlier, gaming has constantly changed over the years. One cannot say gaming has been the same as it isn't, so to say it can't change is ridiculous. We cannot really know until we actually play, meaning no one can judge it fairly until they experiance it themself.

Yay! Now, the people (like my friend) who were dissapointed with the controller don't have to be dissapointed with the revolution!

Not sure if it was already posted by anyone.....

Haha if that Commercial is real, and is an indication of the things they are going to be letting us play i'm not really impressed at all...
I would get really bored swatting flys, playing tennis and even flicking it up to make oldskool mario 'jump', by god they better have better ideas for games than this.
And i would not be seen dead using it to play a FPS game. Hello... Lightguns are sooo much cooler.

That was just a TGS teaser trailer to show what the Revolution can really do.

It may not be exciting to swat flies or make Mario jump, but swordplay or fishing would definitely benefit from this format. The usage as a conductor's stick or magic wand is also good placement for the Revolution controller, but other things may be wierd.
I mean, that it seems this motion sensitivity is excellent if the character in the game is holding an object and it is involved (like the sword), meaning attacking could be done by slashing your controller in the air in front of the TV (seems fun), thus reducing repetitive button mashing. The problem is in platforming like Mario, you rarely has an item and cannot at first take advantage of the wand as of now, but matbe Mario 128 will introduce a new concept? What is going to happen is that the Revolution controller will not technically revolutionize but change the way we play games, as Nintendo intended. How this will affect gaming as a whole, thus revolutionizing, is in question. The real question is how developers will see the Revolution, as although the Rev. has a standard controller, will they try and make games for all three, or will the wand actually create its own collection of gaming; causing developers to create games for all three and then individual games for the wand, as trying to make games compatible with both the wand (Rev, controller) and standard is seemingly impossible.
It is going to be very interesting to play it for myself (Zelda is going to pwn on the Revolution). I'll buy a Revolution first.

Well i've played a Samurai arcade game that you use a sword and it had swing motion detections and it looked cool but wasn't much fun because it didn't 'register' half of the swings that i did...hopefully Nintendo will have that type of problem non-existing.

Supposedly, the controller is very accurate. If it isn't, Nintendo is in deep trouble, kind of like how the Eyetoy sort of died as it wasn't very receptive to motion and was easy to cheat with...in my opinion.
