PlayStation 3!?!?

i hear that sony is making a PS3. i searched for it on Yahoo, and quite a few sites come up with results. i also saw rumors that it's the next generation, 256-bit console, using the IBM "Cell" chip. 256-bit? is that even possible? sounds a bit fishy to me...

Well... I do know that they are making a PS3. As for that 256-bit part... Errrmm... I'm gonna have to look into that. I would imagine anything is possible in the world of computers nowadays... ;)

bah, as long as nintendo gets their console out before sony and microsoft I'll be happy. it was so unfair when nintendo had 4 games out and sony and microsoft already had around 20. that's why nintendo is lagging in the industy right now I tell ya.

I think at this point, Nintendo and Microsoft have also addressed that they are making their own next-generation 256-bit systems. Basically all 3 consoles should launch in 2005 or 2006. No real specs have been made yet for any of them, at least to my knowledge.

Yes, the PS3 used a chip called "Cell". Apperently, it can control your entire household (if it's computerized).

And Nintendo had better not release their new machine *too* early, i'd rather they wait till they have things like Metroid and Zelda etc for launch instead. :)

Here's the facts!

PS3 is releasing a chip that is the processing equivelant of 100 pentium 4 chips. Game developers fear such a complex system would be impossible to program games on. Others are at awe at the proposed power. then there's built-in broadband internet ability. Will act as a home server with a hard drive, have TiVo recording capabilities, PS1 PS2 backwards compatiable, and web-browsing capabalities. DVD/CD burning is a possibility. Rumors say Blu-Ray technology will be used (equilivant of 5 DVDs worth of data). The chips can't be mass-produced until 2005.

XBOX 2

2005 release. Based on PC technology. Uses conventional chips and gives developers more choices, programing is still difficult. May possibly be able to store TV programs on it's harddrive. 5 times the hard-drive space is XBOX. Continuing XBOX live.

Gamecube 2

Mostly wireless stuff. Uses chips from Canada (were doomed <(-'v^)>) called ATI Technologies. Release is at or before rival console makers. Odd are good IBM and Power PC architecture will be used again. Link-up to GBA is obovious. No features that Sony and Microsoft are hyped about. No online features. No clue on it's shape...

Some kind of tuner (Digital or Satellite)

CD-RW drive (built in as a function for saving games, or so they say)

DVD-RW (or RW). This is still a rumour, even within Sony

it can play mp3's and has 64 meg of ram which u can upgrade with memory cards and memory sticks

A price tag of roughly $850

it should be coming out in the late 2004 to 2005.

But the GC is more powerful than the PS2 at pretty much EVERYTHING so that can't be right...and XBox is probably, as powerful as both of them put together....and the PC...

Go ahead and doubt me, but read the numbers. I don't like Sony anymore than you guys, but Sony has a wider audiance than any other system. Nintendo has to get rid of the kiddy look. They need better features than PS2, and still, I don't see even with that, that they could beat Sony.

Now, the PS3 is supposed to do everything that they promised the PS2 would do. And it will sell at exactly the same price as what Microsoft will throw at them with their Next-box (Godzilla).

and nintendo has a fairly big audience as well. remember, they have the game boy. that on it's own adds to nintendos audience, and if you'd tally their sales with the GCN's, you'd probably find them in 2nd place to sony. we're still outselling Xbox, and that's all that matters. sony, they rely on football games and violence to sell to an older audience. with the PS2, it's 2/10 games that are good, the rest are crap. xbox would be 1/10, and gamecube 3-5/10. quality over quantity, down with freakin bandwagon teens who buy PS2 to be cool.

I don't have a PS2 but out of all the games I've seen (including the original PS) there is only 1 i would like and that is Kingdom Hearts. X Box are slowly getting there. I wouldn't mind Gabbed by the ghouls. But with nintendo i have 8-10 games and there are lots more i'd like but can't get due to money issues. Nintendo have an excellent selection.

In closing... I agree with MM except playstation should have 1/10 as well as Xbox's 1/10

Nintendo's got only about 20 good hit titles and the GC library is 200 games.

Frai'd that's 1/10

PS2 is much worse though. They've got a library of 400 something games and let's say about 20 of them are good. That's 1/20

XBOX is definatly the worst though as far as consoles go. 5 of some 500 are worth buying. 1/100

GBA has an enormous sea of garbage.... I won't go there..

2nd: face it warp, To most people gamecube games are kiddy because they still have the "mario style" games with fat guys and green donkeys. ( I'm not dissing N or anything, thats just what I've heard.) people get the impression because Nintendo always uses the same Ideas but trys to make them better. 3rd: PS2 probably has the best games....and thats about it.

conclusion: No one shows respect for oldschool games [x-box]. Everyone at x-box trys to make one type of game in general: 1st person shooters. I'm not dissing 1PS because their cool and fun, but all you mostly see at the store for x-box is 1PS.!

final conclusion: from most gammers world wide: If it isn't a Sports game or 1PS, the game sucks and it's a kiddy game.

Uhm.Crash Bandicoot (typo?) , Tomb Raider, not to mention the masses of racing car games, fighting games, the Final Fantasy series.

what I meant by that is that think of all the popular game characters: captain falcon, Samus Aran, kirby, mario, link.....

they all are ideas used over and over again with new and better games. PS dosn't do that often, what they do is make entirely different games.

Both Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot were surprise hits that went flat. That's enough.

People that stuck with Sony believed that Nintendo was kiddy then, and they still believe that because they're too full of Nintendo-hating pride to open their mind to the possibility that Nintendo has Mature Games. (METRIOD PRIME!!! F-ZERO GX!!! RESIDENT EVIL!!!!) Of course the only series I like outside of Nintendo is Spyro, Jet Set Radio, and Sonic. One is only so-so and not worth buying the whole console for and the other 2 are made by 3rd-party Sega, oh wait, Spyro's 3rdparty too AND CRASH BANDICOOT!!!

All that Sony has left now is Final Fantasy, Grand theft Auto, and Grand Tursmo. Squaresoft is 3rd party now so cross that out. Grand Theft Auto will be on all consoles next year (maybe 2005) and Grand Tursmo is all alone now. So much for Sony's big guns. They probably only won this round because they got there first and held their ground.(poor SEGA)

yeah they are so similar it is unbelievable . it is the SAME game with different moddels and a new city. On a PC you could just scrape that as a 1/2 decent expansion pack for £20.that is UNLESS it is the sims where u can rip people off with £25 for a few new clothes etc.

the reason these games like gt and so on sell so well is becuase the first is normally realy good and when the sequal rolls around every one thinks the game well be good so they go out and buy it an well you can guess the rest
