Because every version has it's own dogs and items.

There are three different versions. (four if you count the one being released as a bundle offer) Lab and friends, Dachsund and friends and Chihuahua and friends. However in a new bundle offer there's the new Best Friends version

Each version has certain breeds that are unavailable in the others. Best friends holds every breed I believe. Oddly though I've laso heard tales of a Shiba and friends version, however I can't speak for that one.

Siba is a Japan only. A celebrity there is the only one that has it, as the shiba is her dog. Thank you, Tips and Tricks!

Actually, Japan has Siba and Firends, and we have either Lab and Firends or Chiuawa and Firends as America-only.

Also, Best Friends has two breeds from the other three (The main ones and one other).

But you can get all the breeds in all the games. The only thing that varrys is what breeds you start with.

Yes, but that's for both the NA/E market, and so is either Lab or Chiuawa. I just forgot which one.

EDIT: Just remembered. Chiuawa isn't in Japan.

You can unlock most breeds in either game, you can even unlock the main breed from another game in another one by linking, but you must be linking with two different ds's.

To unlock one in one game, you must use your friends copy of whatever game on his/her ds, but you must use another friends ds and game, not the same ds and different game.

Or you can get enough trainer points. Every few thousand trainer points you get, a new breed is unlocked.

I mean most breeds though. The main breeds, though, you need to play with them (Except for the lab in Dashund & firends, which is one of the starting breeds).

Everyone seems to be forgetting the fourth version -- Nintendogs: Holiday Edition. I haven't heard much about it, except it's due out sometime before Christmas in early December I believe. It's listed at IGN, so I'm assuming it's a real title.

Maybe they had all of them in Japan, but Lab and Friends came out later and Shiba and Friends never came out in the U.S. Or maybe they stopped selling Shiba and put Lab in instead, because Lab has Shiba Inu.
