You're playing a two player match up online and you've won the first three races comfortably. Now there is no way for them to catch up so they just disconnect. Grrr, how annoying is that? I've read that if you disconnect after the first race then you register a loss, but the person left playing doesn't register the win. I've had this happen in 5 of the matches I played today.
I can't remember the names of all the people that did this, but the latest one really annoyed me.
Sore Losers!

I suppose if they aren't good enough to compete they should stick to offline modes, and if they do venture into the competitive online mode then at least have the balls to stick it out to the end, LOSERS!

I suposed that would be a bad point in online play.
Fortunately,we have the friend codes,so we can permit whom we can play! :)
BTW: I'll probably be getting MKDS this saturday and not until xmas!! Yeah! :D

I hate it when people leave. I've been playing in a 3 player race and they've both disconnected.
I admit to having disconnected mid race before but I had a serious reason. The phone rang (and I was the only one home) since you can't pause I had to quit.
But yes I dislike it too. It's not fair. You shouldn't be playing online if you can't handle losing.

It's fine if when you disconnect, there are at least two players remaining in the game. That way, the winner would still recieve at least 1 win.
I thought you were a Gaming Master. You shoulda been able to play and talk at the same time ;)

You're right, Ice. Sore, wimpy, balless losers they are! I wouldn't disconnect just because I'm losing: that's just plain stupid. I KNOW that wasn't the one Andy I'm thinking of..........
The NOA may be good: but they'll lose sometimes. Never misjudge the NOA, if they are at a course that you can't win, they can own, supposedly, at least.
Here's the sucky fact about the DS USB connector: ONLY works if you have windows XP and a high-speed internet connection. I have 98, so I'll be making countless visits to McDonalds to play Wi-Fi. But then I have an excuse to bring my DS to McDonalds. :D

Give me enough hands to do everything and I could ;)
Anyway I noticed you haven't got your friend code in your profile.... too scared to race me? ;)

I hate it when that happens. And more so, it always seems to happen to me when my loss total outweighs my win total so I never catch up. Some people can be so inconsiderate. If you know you're going to lose, be a fair player and let the other player take the win. I always do that even when I know my losses outweigh my wins.

You wish. For some reason I cannot detect any friends. It may be my router, but it can pick up people on worldwide and regional. It will just sit there searching on the friends bit. Need to look into it. When I get it fixed, beware!

I never quit on races, even if I were to place 4th everytime! (If I do quit, it's probably either because of range getting short from router, have to go to bed, or something else.)

You do know that the friends you have regiestered, have to have your friend code too? Also, the DS will give you a little icon over the signal icon, telling you a friend is on. Everytime you hear a noise like "bring", or the sound of people going into PictoChat, means a friend is on. (Hearing it multiple times means another friend has logged on.)

Ice, don't mean to go off topic, but I think GMT -6 has problems. Please fix it ASAP!!!!

Zeek: Yes, I am aware. We've been trying fruitlessly for ages. The worst thing is that when I search friends, the icon flashes, but they dont appear in the race slots.

I waited for about ten minutes, then my friend finally got caught in the signal. If you aren't waiting long enough, then keep waiting until nearly twenty minutes have passed (what? its a good number. :p) If it still doesn't work.... I suggest calling Nintendo or something. :p
I just raced someone today. They disconnected as well after I kicked him around the first three races...

Happened to me a few times. What's more embarrasing is this: I was going against 3 other people, it was the last race. Right before it started, the battery to my DS died.

The DS only tells you that they are connected to the WiFi, not searching for friends. So, you could be searching for them, in the friends mode, and they could be searching in a World-Wide and not wanting to search for friends for some reason. (Unless the DS will try to connect you with your friend no matter what.) If your friend and you are on and know your both on, and both of you did a friend search, and saw the icon on both DSes, and it still doesn't work, then something is wrong. (I think I'm right there, am I?)

Yes, I am well aware of how the feature is supposed to work, but it just will not.

Firstly: Ice I see you've put up your friend code. Does that mean you got your router to work with it? If not have you tried upgrading it's firmware. My DS wouldn't even recognise my home network (and I was worried thinking I had to fork out more money) but I upgraded my firmware and it works perfectly.
Second: I hate those disconnecting scum. I was in a 4 player match yesterday and I whooped them in the first race. Half-way through the second race they ALL disconnected. Meaning I had no wins added. I was angry.

I got it working yeah. I just turned on DMZ for my DS's IP address. Works like a charm. Yeah, it's annoying about disconnectors, but I thought it would stop when you only search Rivals, but no, you still get the little basts, and normally when you've just won the last race.

Ai, ai, ai. More disconnecting losers today. XP
Btw, I was looking on the nintendowifi.com gaming hub, and I saw "Ice Mario" as the fifth overall most active user! Is that you, Ice? This Ice Mario has 423 matches.... thats quite a bit O_o

I hate when people disconnect because they're losing. I've kept going even if I've gotten last place the whole time. But what I hate more than disconnectors is people who select Figure 8 Circuit for every single race, man is that annoying. Hope you can get your friend mode working soon Ice, 'cause I have your code and want to race you at some point, even though I'll probably get owned.

Is that you, Ice?
No, that's not me. I've not managed that many yet. I wish Nintendo would've thought about unique nicknames.

You don't even get anything after completing all the misions (I think)

The online aspect should improve the replay value. I'd really get a wireless router or USB connector if I were you...

You guys get it for the last race? I get it for the first! Right after I win........
The player has disconnected.
I get it for Christmas, guess what? Either I'm getting slaugtered (I stick it to the end!) or I'm owning, then the sorry promporse b!tches disconnect. Actually, it's 50% of the time people disconnect. Some people I've seen don't disconnect, even when they're getting slaugtered. And I've seen lots of people with Luigi.

Know what's even more annoying? Baby Park. (though I like Baby Park.)

Also, I played against someone with japanese in their name, I won the first 3 races and after he won the 4th race he realised I had 10 more points than him and disconnected, thus preventing me from getting a win .
And last night, the game selected 3 opponents on worldwide (I remember one of them being called Orchid) and when they selected different tracks than each other and I selected Rainbow Road, the game selected my choice, and do you want to know what happened next? ALL 3 OPPONENTS DISCONNECTED ON ME . I just can't believe that most players are scared of playing Rainbow Road online.
So, in conclusion: Disconnectors make Wi-Fi less exciting and they should stop or be banned.

I do hope that modifications can be done server side. We were talking the other the day about how it should give you the win if the other person disconnects and there was no way they could've won. More often that not it's the last race that they disconnect on. The server should know that you've won the first 3 and as soon as you get to that stage, award the win in the background. Because there is nothing worse than when you have got to the stage where you've completed the last race and they disconnect rather than going to the awards ceremony.

That's exactly what that player with japanese in their name did on me, just when I was going to press A to proceed to the awards ceremony.

Those stupid disconnecters got me to lose interest in Mario Kart: DS. Wi-Fi is better on AC:WW because there's no competition, so there's no reason to disconnect.
One time I had a complete n00b (no emblem and 0 wins and losses) but I soon realized why they had no wins or losses.....she disconnected.
BE AWARE OF THESE LOSERS!!!!!!!!

This kind of case has happened again:
The kind of disconnectors that make me even more annoyed are those that disconnect at the end of the final round because they had less points than me, especially n00bish snakers like this n00b:
mrshonen
Like with Dragon_Kazooie, they are also sapping my interest in MKDS. And lastly, Nintendo should start an anti-disconnector system, if a player disconnects more than 3 times service for their copy of MKDS is temporarily stopped for 24 hours, and if, at the end of the final round, a player disconnects before the award ceremony their service is also temporarily stopped for 24 hours no matter how many times they have disconnected.

As I've seen in other online games, there's a seperate statistic called Disconnect %. It doesn't count anyone a loss, and people see this number. So if someone has a high percentage of this stat, people won't play with them much because of there disconnection rate.
