Well, Miyamoto gets most of his inspiration from real life - Pikmin was based on him starting a garden, Zelda from his childhood experiences exlporing caves, Wii Fit when he started exercising more, so who's to say SMB wasn't based on Miyamoto's college drug experimenting?
