Have you ever come across any weird or odd instruments at all? Either real instruments that are just generally unknown or normal things which have been turned into instruments? Hey maybe you could even play an odd instrument!
Obvious examples are spoons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=Eq-tMO4CC5k), crystal glasses (http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=ew-7SwLcHBg) etc, but I was reminded today of the saw as a musical instrument though, and this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=_6588Bx8abM) is a great example of why it can be such a beautiful instrument when played properly. It's honestly staggering how random objects can create sounds like these sometimes :)

The harp; it isn't an "odd" instrument but it is relatively unknown. It's well known in the sense that people know what it is, but never used, and never heard.
Although harp music can be quite beautiful.

Harp is used more often than you think.
And Harpsichords come nowhere near the sounds of 8-bit music.
Harpsichord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yhd-dpC_7o
8-bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9WPbCmLmD4
Sound nothing alike.
Combining the two would sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnzD1MN5_Ps

Everything made by this guy (http://www.youtube.com/user/heita3).
Other than that, I always thought the bagpipes were weird.

I was thinking of that instrument when making this thread actually, just had no idea what it was called or even how to find out :p
I thought of two more actually, an F1 car engine can surprisingly make music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XR7OpM2Ufk), as can lightning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8TustgrGaQ) - listen to the whole thing and there's some treats of songs you'll recognise in there.

How many people listen to that kind of music? The harp is not mainstream; I listen to classical but most people apparantly do not.

I think everyone has heard a Harp before. It's fairly common to see it at least on TV... Like that episode of Drake and Josh with the old lady playing the harp.
Also, they're everywhere.

It doesn't have to be mainstream for people to know what it is or have heard it. I've noticed you saying alot of stuff on these forums in a very arrogant manner, like you think you're separate from the general public. Like, you can't even just type in your favorite odd instrument, you have to follow it up with a "You've probably never heard it, it's rare, and not mainstream".
It's kind of annoying, honestly.

.........Right.
Its not really rare, but I always thought the Soprano Saxophone was really cool. Its a saxophone, but it looks like a clarinet! What better mix is there?
Edit: Wait....are you calling me a moron? Because if you are, I do not appreciate it.
