So I'm an Admin. Wow.

I know that this forum is typically reserved for the introduction of new members, but this seems like the best place to make this speech. Although I’ve spent countless years on these forums as an active part of this wonderful community, my advancement in position is similar to a rebirth. To me, it feels as though I am a brand new member again.

These forums have really grown on me ever since I stumbled upon them. I’ve been here for the majority of the highlights, the lowlights, the terrific members, the terrible spammers, the insightful discussions, and the hapless flame wars. These moments, coupled with the experiences I’ve shared with the members themselves, molded who I am today and helped me grow in to what I believe to be a better person.

What this community has done for me is more than many of you will ever truly know or come to understand. Having the ability to give this back to the current members is more than just a privilege, it is an unbelievable honor.

Some members seem to be just as ecstatic as I am about the whole ordeal (Thanks guys), while others seem upset or outraged at the idea (Sorry Gold and others). With luck, everything will move forward in a positive direction. Hopefully it will be enough for everyone to recognize the benefits of this situation and approve of the decision made.

I’d love to tirade for pages and pages about this, but I won’t. I know how stale reading such prolific, sincere documents can be. Besides, I’m thinking so many things right now that I’m finding it impossible to get it all down in text format. It may seem ridiculous considering the internet isn’t suppose to be “srs bzness”, but I feel choked up. However, there is one more thing I’d like to say before I end this post.

This new position comes with a new toy. It’s called the “Ban Hammer”, and I plan to sing one last lament while dragging it down admin alley.

Go "Ban Hammer"! Oh, and you always get that feeling when you become an admin. It's just normal. But to be an admin on a massive sitew like this is amazing! Congrats!

I would like to thank me, myself, and of course, Irene. She was good to me back in the day... always putting up with my odd psychoses, such as my fetish for playing fetch with the ball. The ball, guys... it's singular. It had spikes all over it, and wasn't really the kind of thing you'd want to hold in your mouth, especially since it was volleyball-sized and wouldn't fit. If you could unhinge your jaw like a snake, you could get it to fit. And then you wouldn't need to eat for a month, because the spikey volleyball would nourish you for a long time.

I'd like to thank my dentist, because he gives me that sweet sweet laughing gas to calm me down while he's drilling through my teeth. That drill is pretty loud, especially when he demonstrated for me that it could drill through concrete. He pulled it out of my mouth, pointed it at the floor, and dove downward with it like a diver from the high-dive board of a pool. We used to go swimming at the local pool, my dentist and I, although I couldn't stay in the water for more than a half hour because then my fillings would start to rust. I didn't have the best dental plan, y'see, but he did the best he could at the time.

I'd also like to thank my cat. She's very fat, and always willing to sit on me. Secretly I think she likes to cut off circulation to my feet. I'd be willing to bet that she's in league with a warped league of chiropractors who specialize in feet massages -- she's keeping them in business. I wouldn't be surprised if she sits around on other peoples' laps in other houses when I'm asleep. Just because she's an animal doesn't mean she doesn't work a 40-hour week, too, and laps aren't in short supply around here.

And finally, I'd like to thank my car. It's always there when I need it, always willing to blow a spark plug at the drop of a hat, always misfiring a piston because the wind hit it wrong, always struggling to go uphill and sputtering going downhill. It singlehandedly creates the greenhouse effect, and Bond would be envy of the smokescreen it produces. Yes sir, I lost my mind in that car... I once spent an evening with a lobotomist, and I haven't been the same ever since. It's probably between the cushions; I should check sometime.

...Oh wait, Grey's the admin winner. Congrats.

Congratulations Grey! :D I think that making you an admin was a great idea. I've always thought that this place needed an Admin who was more active and involved in the forums, since all of the other ones seem to rarely visit at all. Now we have one! ^___^

If I seem cynical, it's because I've been doubting my own usefulness as a moderator and have been toying with the idea of asking for a downgrade to regular member.... but I dunno. I'm probably just being stupid.

Fantastic speech, Grey - and I'm fairly damn sure we all know, at least in some way of our own what this forum his done for you, and for all of us as well - for me, it was when I returned to the forums last year, and the warm welcome back I got - also, I wouldn't have met all of the people I talk to on AIM, or even possibly some of my online friends I've met up with, hadn't it been for some of the chapters in the RWP's past. And because this forum and its many great members mean so much to me, it's a privilege to have you as an admin. :)
