View Full Version : Public Apology to StarFox

Gruntling
26th July 2009, 03:04 AM
I wanted to publicly apologize for my rude and uncalled for comments on Episode 18 regarding StarFox's weight. Needless to say I am embarrassed and now only realize the extent my comments have made.

As I have mentioned to StarFox in a PM, as a moderator and the mentor leader, these comments are certainly not becoming and are not what you expect someone of my position to say. I have let not only StarFox down, but the rest of you as well. I hope none of you think less of me, but I can certainly understand if you do.

Most importantly, I want to say sorry again to StarFox. I hope most of all, you can forgive my harsh and careless remarks. I really do feel bad about this whole situation and wish to amend the hurtful things I have said.

Good move, Gruntling.

But, as banjonater said, it is not only you that owes him an apology.

It's awesome that you made this thread, Gruntiling. But honestly, I doubt Grey will apologize in any way. Grey was the harshest in the podcast, and he's usually one to be a huge dick to most people. I honestly feel that his over-inflated ego will prevent him from apologizing, because I'm sure in his sick mind, what he did was all right.

Good on you Gruntling :), you did say you felt bad in the podcast for saying those things, but this should of never happened anyway.

F**k him.

As I was in charge of editing the podcast I feel largely responsible, and in hindsight I had a complete judgement fail. My sincerest apologies to Starfox and our listeners.

26th July 2009, 03:23 AM
??? Did I miss something?

Yes you did.

Allow me:
The last 5 minutes of the original Episode 18 (About 49:40 onwards) was dedicated to a topless picture of an active member, Starfox. Some of the comments made in this 5 minutes were very hurtful and offensive, particularly from Grey Jinjo who made some awful comments. This has been removed and replaced with a version without the slander at the end.

repobanjo
26th July 2009, 03:24 AM
Oh. So are you not going to explain what happened?

RiderOnTheStorm
26th July 2009, 03:24 AM
Long story short, Grey and Gruntling insulted StarFox about his weight - Grey was more harsh than Gruntling. We all called them out on it, Gruntling made this thread, and here we are.

The end of the podcast makes fun of StarFox's weight, or at least it did. I don't know if it was edited.

Gruntling that was nice of your for apologizing. I won't be happy if the others dont apologize, but I won't be mad either. I mean, its between Grey, GM2K and StarFox, and its not really my business.

Edit:

Since my post was edited for obvious reasons, I'll give a more detailed comment than before. It really was uncalled for, but it's not like everybody doesn't make mistakes. Grey, however, did it on purpose, because he's simply raw as fxck and honest as fxck. Which isn't a bad thing, but alot of people will find hurtful.

Gruntling, however, as far as I know, probably just made a mistake.

We're all only human.

I didn't hear what was said or nothing, but if it's created the need for an apology thread, apologies should be delivered by all parties. Grey, from my experiences with him is a decent and in my case supportive person, so I don't see why he wouldn't apologise..

Jesus Christ this forum went to shit. We're insulting members on podcasts and holding polls about how fat members are? What the hell are you people thinking? I thought this forum was more mature than the rest.

Than the rest of the interwebs?

No. Although it is much better compared to forums with spam, it's similar to many others.

The way I see it... more like this...

2009--------/\--/\--/
2008-------/--\/--\/
2007------/
2006-----/
2005----/
2004---/
2003--/
2002-/
2001/__________________________ x- time y-quality

Although you'll have to read the graph with time on the y-axis because I'm too lazy to make a nicer graph. The point of this graph is that the RWP has grown up till the arcade and has remained relatively the same. Quality can only grow so much before capping at a max potential and depressing by the fluctuation of active members.

By comparison to the Snitz... still better.

No because I don't care. But really, if people insult you about stuff on the internet why should you care at all?

I've been hearing this and variations of it thrown a lot at the RWP for the last five years. "It's just a forum, don't need to be so serious." "This is a gaming forum made about a bear and bird."

Honestly, it's all crap. We're still here because we do care or unless we're VERY bored (that's me). The people who don't care have been long gone (I know because I just wrote to one of them). Starfox has been willing to post a picture and it's because he trusted this website. The blame exists on both ends (Starfox for posting a picture anyways on the fattest member thread) and the mods for not following their own rules.

These things do hurt people and variations of the photo problem have existed throughout the last five years I've been on the RWP. Mewchan and her picture. xxx and the drama that has happened. Grey himself being a victim (xxx incident). The problem of lament and us showing photos of him...

So to say we shouldn't care and to say this is just ANOTHER REGULAR FORUM (Nope it's not special, it's like rare-extreme) is just saying you shouldn't be human at all.

That chart makes no sense. First time is just moving like normal, but then it kinda just hops in the DeLorean, and goes between '08 and '09.

Teto
26th July 2009, 10:29 AM
As time goes on, quality increases and wavers a bit as it nears now is what I think is meant to be going on.

Jinjonator
26th July 2009, 10:35 AM
Well, if the line is quality, all we can deduce from the chart is that A) quality got increasingly better as time went on and B) it can travel time.

Airman
26th July 2009, 01:27 PM
I think he confused the x-axis and the y-axis. I noticed it a tad strange the quality was only going up by 1, and it just happened to begin at 2001.

I see that Gruntling has created this thread as an apolgy, but god damn! What the **** were you guys thinking when you put that in the podcast?! Did you think it was going to be "funny" (I assume so, since you usually put outtakes or humourous anctedotes at the end)?! I can forgive Gruntling, and GM2k wasn't part of it, but Grey...**** you, seriously. You can go jump off a bridge as far as I'm concerned. Too bad your over-inflated ego would keep you afloat though. You sir, are an asshole, a prick, and a douchebag, in no particular order. I'm glad I'm gone from this site, if this is how the forum leaders are going to treat their fellow members (how ironic that he's the "most under-appriciated" too). The worst part is I feel I'm to blame for starting this whole mess...StarFox didn't want to post a topless picture, but then I did and he gave in and posted one too. I'm sorry man, If I would've known this was going to happen I would'nt have done it :(

This is something you guys have to consider as well. I know some bigger folks, and we're awful chummy, so we tend to rip and make some fat jokes at my bigger friends, just like they make jokes at me suffering from the beginning stages of male pattern baldness.

But none of these jokes are made with the intention of hurting the person, I make fat jokes at my fat friends, because I mostly know they are comfortable taking a little joke at themselves, and they aren't offended by it. Grey can be a bit of an ass, yeah, but I can't see him, or the rest of the podcast staff for that matter, putting that in the final podcast if they knew 100% that StarFox would be offended by it, sometimes in the heat of the moment, the jokers just think the joke is a joke, and are dead convinced no one will think otherwise.

Not defending Grey, and not 100% ripping on him either, just try and think of it from both sides.

I know it is just "The Internet" and half of you are "hard as nails" on the Internet and don't "give a damn what everyone says", but I think of RWP as a family "yadayadayada" and all that.

...Huh.

For once I must agree with you Rider.

Also, there are far more souless, evil and selfish people out there but that doesn't excuse anyone.

I just heard it.. Absolutely uncalled for. Makes me think what people say about me behind my back.

Gruntling, you earn respect for pointing out what you did wrong in the first place..

I have the recording, I should be able to do with it what I chose. Honestly, it was totally uncalled for, and I will make sure everyone who asks me will hear it.

Because we shouldn't be sending it around.

I only heard the edited version so I don't know what they said, but do they not insult GM2K about his accent? That's not really appropriate. Just saying.

That's just comedic teasing, though. They're jealous of GM2K's awesome voice.

Well what's the difference? With starfox it was just comedic teasing, but someone took offence this time. Eh?

Well what's the difference? With starfox it was just comedic teasing, but someone took offence this time. Eh?No. It was not comedic teasing with me. It was 5 minutes of hell. You have to hear it to believe it. It's just... I can't even describe.

Topics consisting primarily of "X is a douchebag" and "X should be stripped of his powers" should not break out every time someone takes offense to something.

Actually, I forgot to say, I'm not mad at GM2K (been thinking about AIM convo last night... and even though he was chuckling like a hyena, he is forgiven), but I still am at Gruntling and I am furious at Grey.

Maybe I would feel at least of hint of sorriness if it weren't for the following facts:

1) What was said on the podcast was said prior to the podcast even starting. It was a "post-show" in appearance, but it was more of a pre-show in actual recording. It was Gruntling, GM2K and I talking amongst ourselves before even beginning our introductions. As such, it obviously wasn't intended as something to make the cut. As I wasn't the one who edited the show together, I wasn't the one who decided to make it a public matter.

2) Each and every one of you has made an insulting remark about somebody at some point (many throughout your life). If you really think you are a better person because no one heard it, you are just looking for excuses to get to sleep at night.

3) Each and every one of you has heard fat jokes made and either laughed, or, at the very least, passed it off as non-humorous without begrudging the joke teller. The ONLY reason you guys think this particular situation is worse than usual is because StarFox is in your monkeysphere. If we had Google'd a picture of a random guy and started making fun of it, providing the appropriate link to it, not one member would have been up in arms about it.

4) Over the past five or so years I have read hundreds of rude comments behind my back in the RWP's chat logs, at spin-off sites like Real Discussion and Absurd Foolishness, and in private chats between two members via other mediums like AIM when one member of the chat would send it to me. For a good while, the entire point of RD was for members to sign up and bash me. These comments span over a hundred different members and range from minor insults about my body type to threats against my life. I've had all of my personal information posted, photos of me uploaded and distributed without my consent, and groups formed for the specific intention of screwing around with my personal life. Me being the villain for talking behind someone's back is laughable given the history of the RWP's community.

The only thing I am sorry about is that the private conversation was posted publicly and thus became public humiliation. At the time it was just light conversation between the three hosts with no ill intentions toward StarFox. The fact that Gruntling, one of the most passive and friendly members in the RWP's entire history, was participating should have clued you guys into that.

I'd just like to say something, as I guess I am the "father" of the podcast.

I completely and fully back everything that Grey just said. You guys first need to understand that this very clearly and very obviously a joke. Leah told me that this was some massively dramatic thing that would make me hate Grey, and then we listened to it. We laughed our asses off, as most of you probably did. It's no different then when we make fun of GM2K's accent every week. We don't mean it, it's just harmless fun.

Starfox, I'm glad to see that you enjoy being the center of attention. I think that if you didn't want people to talk about your weight, maybe you shouldn't have posted in a thread titled "RWP's Fattest Member." Any claim of grief or pain probably was exaggerated. Stop bitching and understand that it's the Internet, and people like to have fun.
