While I was surfing the web I came across a few images from the original Kameo. Apperantly there were going to be 18 elemental warriors instead of only ten.

Beta Story

"Kameo" is a magical, epic adventure full of magnificent exploration and intense combat. The future of the world depends on Kameo, who must capture, grow and unleash a wide assortment of incredible monsters to combat ever-present evil, and rescue her three Elemental Ancestors from the Dark Troll King, who threatens the planet and its wildlife.

In true Rare Ltd. fashion, the world is wondrous and immense to explore, the puzzles and challenges are brilliant, and the monster-oriented combat and exploration is innovative and unique.

Key Features:

* Innovative monster-based combat system. Kameo has the unique ability to morph in real time into a wide variety of incredible monsters, each with its own strengths and fighting style. To fight the hordes of evil, players will strategically employ 18 elemental monsters from each of the Six Elements of Power: Plant, Water, Rock, Ice, Wind and Fire. They can choose a plant that boxes for up-close combat, a rock monster to launch a silo of rocks, or a wind monster that specializes in ground-to-air attacks. Fast-paced action, epic-style battles and massive boss encounters will require players to think and act quickly using their boundless monster repertoire.

* Monsters: essential to exploration. Monsters are not only key for combat, they are vital tools to expand players' journey. Each monster offers unique abilities that enable players to open up and safely explore new areas. Intelligent use of monsters is critical to solving puzzles and avoiding obstructions, traps and enemies. For example, players can travel underground as a plant monster or light up dark areas using a fire-based monster.

* Building an arsenal of monsters. Kameo's powers grow through hunting and capturing a massive collection of monsters, but this is no easy task. Players join forces with sidekick Meepo and use stealth, quickness and puzzle-solving to capture these sneaky little creatures. They grow their monsters and expand their monster arsenal as they increase their ability to explore the world and defeat enemies and challenges.

* Epic adventure across an immense world. Players of "Kameo: Elements of Power" explore a vast and magical world filled with lush environments, thriving wildlife, wondrous creatures, clever puzzles and big challenges. Gorgeous 3-D environments with sprawling hills, fertile valleys and daunting lairs cover 20 fantasy-style locations. Players can enter the dangerous Troll Castle and discover more than 30 areas to explore. As they journey through the expansive land, players will ultimately take part in three amazing boss encounters.

* Wondrous fantasy world. As the story unfolds in storybook fashion, players are immersed in a magnificent kingdom of monsters and magic that is beautifully crafted to satiate the wildest imagination. The rich story line, spectacular use of monsters, and epic journey will completely and immediately connect players to a faraway land. Players can archive their adventure in the ******, a magical archiving book featuring Ortho the Magician, by collecting monsters, more than 30 incidental creatures and tons of useful objects.

I think its amazing how much Kameo has evolved since its days on the GameCube... These screenshots cant even compare to the game on the 360.

Yeah, but we'll never know if the game that's on the shelves is any more or less fun than the game that would have been on the shelves years ago. Pretty graphics may be nice and all, but it's no substitute for what makes a game a game.

Your statement reminds me of games like Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Donkey Kong: Coconut Crackers, and Diddy Kong Pilot, which were all being developed during the same time Kameo was. Then shortly later, Nintendo and Rare split and all those games were abandoned for a while... Which makes me ponder the idea, "what would have been".

Seems to me like it was originally going to be relased on the Xbox 1, but Microsoft liked it enough to put it off for the 360.

Seems to me like it was original going to be on the GameCube, but Rare was sold to Microsoft, which obviously moved it over to the Xbox, and after a few years of being delayed, finally moved to the 360.

I'm not sure about that, but it seems to me that it was just going to be for an earlier-generation console in general (besides PS2). Either way, it's still a great game.

Erm... but I am, because that's really the way it was going to happen.

You are indeed correct. Heck, the proof of Kameo as a Gamecube title is right on the earlier Gamecube boxes before Rare was sold to Microsoft. There's a screenshot right on the back.

I guess I'll have to take your word on it. I have an earlier gamecube, with the box, but I can't find it at the moment.

Well I'm talking as far back as the systems that came out at launch. I don't know how long it lasted. If you do have one, it's the very bottom-right picture.

Perhaps I'll take some pictures of mine later if I can find my camera...

Well, I got it the christmas after the launch, which was about a month before, and my parents pre-ordered it.

On the left side, you can even see a screenshot of Donkey Kong Racing :p

Oh, those pictures are about 2 MB each (too lazy to resize 'em), so if any of you are using dialup... then it sucks to be you ;) And now that I see them, the "close-up" is kind of redundant. Meh. Blame that on the 2 inch LCD screen.

Ah, yes. I remember now. I thought the game was going to be a pile of S#!T, that, or a sequel to Jet Force Gemini (for some reason). It sure has changed.

While we're on the matter, I found something interesting in the wardrobe in the Mystic's Hut. There is a scroll that reads:

"Take one Cube of ice... Add two beetles from a Box of Creepy-Crawlies... Heat to 360 degrees... Add Meepo scales to taste.

Eat before crust heals over.
A dish best served cold."

It's obviously referring to the GameCube, Xbox, and 360 -- Kameo's life cycle. I thought this was pretty interesting... (Cube, Box, 360, and Meepo are all highlighted in blue in the text, too.)

Call me stupid, but what IS Meepo?

Call me stupid, but what IS Meepo?

Meepo (http://cybboutik.chez.tiscali.fr/jeux-01/Kameo/Meepo.jpg) was Kameo's old sidekick from the original game. Unfortunatly he was not included in the finished version.
