View Full Version : Would You Listen to a Live Show?

I'm currently exploring ways to have a live taping of the Rare Witch Roundtable hosted over the Internet. It would be a straight audio feed, most likely with some sort of chat function enabled, so people could talk about the show as it airs. We could also do like callers via Skype at the same time. However, this would be silly, unless people actually viewed it. Would you want to see this happen?

I wouldn't view because there is a good chance I would be busy during the show.Although Skype calls would be very, very welcome by everyone.

I'm not a fan of performing live, so I wouldn't call in myself.
The idea of having this feature in the show sounds good though.
You might aswell give it a go.
oftopic: does this topic mean the next season will start soon?

Provided my timezone allowed it, yes.

Yes. Since there's not much Rare news nowadays, a live show would be more entertaining.

A live show is a really good idea, I would try my best to watch it live but with timezones I might be in bed instead :p

A live show sounds great, but can it still be made available for download after it's broadcast?
If so, I don't see why this wouldn't be fantastic! :D

Yep, the edited version would still be available the day after the show airs.

This... so since, as far as I know, you're all Americans the answer is no.

No. I'm usually busy and forget live shows are on.

That goes against the convenience of pre-recorded podcasts. Also, Australia.

Yeah, but it would still be available for download on the following day. It seems like a perfectly good idea to me. It would bring in a new audience, and retain the old one. I know I would prefer listening to it live.

The question isn't "Would you listen to a download of a live show?" The question is "Would you listen to a live show?"
I don't have the time to work around a broadcast shedule. I would just wait for the downloadable one, and listen to it when I have the chance. That's the appeal of a podcast over radio to me.
That being said, I don't recall telling them not to do it. I just probably wouldn't listen to it live.
Also, how would it bring in a new audience exactly? If anything the ones listening would probably be just a watered down number of those already subscribed to the podcast.

I initially just skimmed the thread, and I thought that they were asking if they should do it or not, not about whether or you would listen to it personally or not. All apologies. As for the new audience, I mean people like myself who usually do not listen to the podcast, but would if they decided to broadcast it live. I just figure that it would be more entertaining seeing as how they cannot edit any of it out, and such.

Also, judging by how heavily you guys edit the show, I'd expect a lot of dead air.

Yes, but please be on Saturday/Sunday/when I'm available. OR release the time and stuff about a week before.

If your going to make a live show, I would try to fit it in with timezones so that it is on a day and time that can please most RWP users.
Also, while i wouldn't mind checking out a live show, I most likely wouldnt end up viewing it (if i planned to i expect ill get distracted with something else)

Simply run skype, record with pretty may, and stream using ustream.tv, that way you can use a live show and record it. Just have no video feed and a default picture of a logo for the podcast, then everyone can hear only the audio, which would consist of only the streamers voice and the sound through his speakers, so choose wisely, then once recorded you can save, edit, and the other speakers will be much louder and clearer for when you post it to itunes or w.e else you do with it.

I've never listened to one of them before, mainly due to no itunes etc, and just lack of persuing it, however if they were doing a live one and it wasnt a great effort to listen, such as my ustream comment above, i would definitely listen.
So there you go, a new type of audience.

Guess I am a little late, but yeah I would listen and maybe even call in! I can understand why some people don't want it, but that just means you won't there are still other people who want it. Its not going to hurt you if there is one just get it when it is out for download. So yeah I'm down for it.
