I know he's not, but let's discuss some of the rumours which came flying up about luigi in super mario 64 and let's see if we can discover what the whole L IS REAL 2401 thing actually means, it could be unrelated to luigi. ;)

You mean this?

I've heard plenty of other rumors too. But, L IS REAL is probably the best one I've heard. ;)

It says "Eternal Star" on that sign, though, doesn't it? At least, that's how I've always read it.

The sign says, "eternal star". That is the only clue that it wxists, and it doesn't really work.

Sure, it looks like L is real, but that's because you were told to search for it before you read it. If you had not known to read L is real, you would not know what it would say. You would just make up your own sayings, or digregard it. I think it says, "Eternal Star", because it looks like it, and it makes total sence.'

Sorry, but when people search for things that were told to look for that would be total nonsence otherwise (like backwards masking.), you generally find it. It is human nature to find things after you are told. This is why fortune telling actually gets the "psychics" money. If they make it vauge enough ("You will have a small misofrtune this week"), you will be subconcientuolsy looking for a small misfortune that happened the week.

Sorry to sound like a jerk, but I assumed everybody knew that it wasn't "L is real". If you still belive that, I don't care.

Actually, in various other N64-era Mario games, didn't they call the gigantic variety of star, the kind Mario receives from Bowser on beating him, etc, the Eternal Star too? For instance in the Mario Parties? That's fairly solid proof that it does, in fact, say "Eternal Star".

You never know......it might've intended to be L Israel but they made a mistake. After all, it does look like a grave, yes?

But doesn't video game companies insert mysterious things like this to attract people? (i.e. - SNS) They might do this to get a lot of mon-*get's knocked out by some Nintendo-hired hitman*

i always though it was a grave (graves usually say things like eternal star) until i heard it said L IS REAL 2401. But L could stand for anything.

Well all i'll say is that there are some out there that have hacked the game, to make Mario -->Green and wear a L cap too... *coughromhackerscough*

But yeah that is defintely Eternal Star... What is below that is what i can't read..

Here's a good example (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1531148774953443944&q=Luigi). The hacker used probably texture editing and GS Head/body modifer codes.

I can't believe this "L is real 2401" theory is still being talked out about. It says Eternal Star without a doubt in my mind. In fact putting the title "eternal" on a statue makes sense, since is means "endless" or ageless, unceasing, or enduring.

yeah.... but still, wouldn't it have been cool had you been able to control luigi?

It's too blurry for me to make out anything. Now that's the real mystery!

There were 2 Beta things found in the ROM, an unused flower simular to the ones in conker's bad fur day, and a yoshi egg! Which i thought i had seen in V-ram before.. Not sure if anyone knew that already... no luigi though..

I think the thing under the writing says, "For Princess Peach". Or something to that extent.

The first character is definetly 1, and the last one on the second word is an !.

I doubt this was intentional, but if you look closely at the moon in Big Boo's Haunt, you can see a Luigi face on it.

And the L is Real thing seems more likely to say, "Eternal Star" since the statue is of a star.

Has it EVER occoured to anybody that it doesent say anything? I think that it's just random scribbles. They just scribbled a bunch of random lines into it making it seem like words.

Did anyone else notice that in the video, the lives icon is Mario's head? Obvious hack.

Also, I believe that digidestind has a point, here. It's all just a bunch of pixels placed there. What you see is what you see. Now, if there was a way to shrink the pixels down to a more notable size, then maybe it might say something.

I can't find a picture of it, but that EXACT SAME SIGN is in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Coincidence? L is real could mean Link is real, hinting at the release of a Zelda title on the N64.

But the MOST LOGICAL explanation is that it was just a joke. Zelda64 had the same graphics engine as Mario64, so they probably just pasted it there too. It is probably a programming-type code or developers name.

"1 Eternal Star." That's definately what the top says. The bottom...eh...I'm not so sure of.
