View Full Version : The Rare Witch Wiki Project
Gold Jinjo
24th February 2006, 09:03 PM
I launched this thing on the 19th with the idea it would act as a replacement for our single Wikipedia article, and as I was setting things up, I realized it should surpass that idea. I figured it we're all going to work on a Wiki, we might as well make the (probably) first actual Rareware Wiki, archiving everything from games, characters, story, discoveries, secrets, upcoming games, music, staff (programmers, musicians, artists)... as well as everything about the Rare Witch Project. Everything concerning the world of Rare.
Now since some of us here have been prone in the past to starting up projects and then giving up on them, the beauty of the MediaWiki software is what will keep this going. It's completely open-ended... anyone at any time can add or edit something, so there's no pressure on any one person to get something done. This only works if there are people here interested in working on this thing, which I'm sure there are. So by all means, if there's something you want to do, take the initiative and get at it :)
So, finally, I present to you the link: http://rwpwiki.no-ip.org
And yes, I know, the server is slow... but it's reasonable. With any luck, I'll be moving to an actual domain at some point. I know there are free sites such as WikiCities, but with that comes advertisements and... well, a lack of total control over the software itself.
Blech. Anyway, have at 'er :)

Nice idea, Gold. I do hope we can finish this one. ;)
Just one question: Obviously, you must be a member at this thing to add (I am right on that one?) so, I just want to know if you have to sign up there, or if its a the same as this username and password.
I kinda already know, but itd be nice to know for sure. ;)

Awesome, thanks. I'll add that :) Although I should say that, at the moment, image uploads aren't working. I don't know if that's because of Digibase, or something I'm not doing right... but it's not currently possible ^_^
And no, DevilBottles, you don't have to sign up. It would be nice, so that we could have a nice list of users, but it's not a rule or anything :)

This is a good idea and looks really good. :)

I've got something along that line written up for myself right here (http://gordraf.digibase.ca/rwpwiki/index.php/Gold_Jinjo). Unless you mean something much more extensive, which is certainly possible.
Kind of funny, I posted Ice and Sub's full names and addresses back on the snitz and it was deleted, but now you're endorsing giving out their names? o_O
That was a long time ago. Since then, their names have been in magazines a few times. Not to mention a simple WHOIS lookup on the domain clearly shows Ice's name is Alan. I'm sure by now he couldn't care any less.

Ahh I was just away to ask :)
I don't know if I could edit it for anything worthwhile, I mean I wouldn't want to
ruin it.
Can you put links in to other sites, e.g. Sub's BETA GoldenEye, that other
GoldenEye site.
Also are you putting all the editors in (including the finnished-for-some level editor,
even though its unrelesed).

Yay! This is absolutely great! I've already gotten to work on the Banjo-Kazooie page, which now boasts a more complete summary and main character list.
Er, can we add whatever pages we like to this? Because I'd love to go and make a complete Banjo-Kazooie character/object list (including things as trivial as enemies and collectibles), and fill in pages for each and every one. :p
Upsilon
25th February 2006, 12:48 PM
Excellent. I'll get to work on some character pages, I guess.
Incidentally, how significant does a game character or enemy have to be to merit a page? I'm assuming for the meantime that any character with a speaking role and pretty much any enemy type gets its own page (wiki is not paper, right?), but by all means correct me if I'm wrong.

25th February 2006, 01:46 PM

I helped Ice Ligtnings Mumbo Jumbo artical with lising all of the transormations, what is specail about them, and where they can be used.
Also, I helped the MMM section by lising where the two SNS eggs are. With a description on top of the article talking about why it is special with two eggs (hinting towards making an article about SNS theories).
I am going to make an SNS theory article very soon.

I've been creating redlinked Banjo articles pretty much as I come across them. I've also made a few categories. The page I made on Grunty's Lair (http://gordraf.digibase.ca/rwpwiki/index.php/Special:Contributions/Upsilon) is blatantly incomplete, because I've forgotten where the RBB Witch Switch Jiggy appeared.

Yep, that way it's all nice and consistent. Although at the moment we don't have information templates for anything other than N64 games, but I'll have those up and running today.
Oh, and considering how big this has already gotten, I've backed up the database. It's a whopping 2 MB already, considering the backup dump is just a plain text file :approve:

The first: Click on a red link. This will take you an editing page. Make the article on the link you clicked.
The second: Search for an article that doesn't exist. There will be a link on the page it takes you to that says, "this exact link". Click that, and it will take you to an editing page for the thing you just searched.

I couldn't sleep, so I decided to sneak down to the computer and do some editing. :D Hell-bent on doing those soundtrack pages, I was. Speaking of which, I finished scanning the covers for all of my Rare soundtrack CDs, with the exception of Conker: Live & Reloaded (it won't scan right). That means I can add cover art to the soundtrack pages, like I did here (http://gordraf.digibase.ca/rwpwiki/index.php/Category:Banjo-Kazooie_Soundtracks). (Thanks to...BF, was it?...for creating that category.) Also:
-I've done a little tinkering with categories to avoid having an article featured in a category and its sub-category. E.g. the BK soundtrack page was featured on Game Soundtracks and Nintendo 64 Soundtracks (its sub-cat). This is not automatic, though - you just need to be more careful than I was. ;)
-Categories are case-sensitive.
-I've figured out how to flatten GBA boxes for scanning.
-I put a few redirects in place, such as redirecting "Grunty's Lair" to "Gruntilda's Lair."
-I've smiled several times while looking at the Recent Changes page. You guys are doing great. :approve:

Alright, I've made a Banjo-Tooie Boss Template, which can be used whenever describing a boss. Maybe it's best to include that part of its description in the strategy section of the bosses' pages - seeing as many of the bosses (such as Klungo) have bigger roles as characters than as bosses. Well, make of the template what you will. :p
It's Template:BTBossInfo, if you need to use it.

Well, I meant the standard boss template for the Banjo-Tooie bosses. There are some disadvantages to it being used as a standard generic boss template - namely that most bosses (aside from those in Banjo-Tooie) don't have subtitles. Oh, and Swat... if you're going to make pages for dates to get them out of the "Wanted Pages" section, can you at least check the "what links here" section in the toolbox for those dates to see what refers to a date, and at least mark down the names of the articles, as opposed to just writing "A date", "A year"?
It'll make things easier down the road, and it'll keep dates out of the "Wanted Pages". It's a win/win :)
For example, the 2001 (http://gordraf.digibase.ca/rwpwiki/index.php/2001) page has information about the date.

I think you should just start writing whenever you feel like it, "call-outs" be damned. The whole idea of the Wiki is to stimulate cooperative contribution to articles, not having one person "call" an article, or having some big "call-out" mix-up, resulting in the article never being started. If we had a bunch of people calling articles, they would never be written. Articles are meant to be written by anyone, and then edited to perfection by everyone else.

Donkey Kong Country?
More like MARBLE MADNESS!! <3
Well, the first Rare game I remember playing was DKC, but I played other Rare games that came out before that. <3 Marble Madness and its trackball. Jetpac wasn't bad, either, nor was Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll.

Hey. I went around fixing up a bunch of grammar and spelling errors during random leisure I had the last couple of days; I just couldn't be arsed to post about it :p.
Also, I tried to update my own damned bio, but I don't know how to start a category to fit the format of you/GM2K/etc so I just shrugged and quit. ; )

If you'd like, you could give me the info you want in there and then I'll glady post it up. It doesn't even have to be a whole lot of info... just as basic as Triskal's (http://gordraf.digibase.ca/rwpwiki/index.php/TriskalGuilo) will suffice.

I've started to reorganize the years so it's much easier to read and more informative. I hope you like the look! If not, you can always change it. ;)
Edit: I've refashioned years 2001 to 2006. It's getting late where I'm at so I think I'll going to bed. The "game releases" lists need to be completed but they have a fair amount of information so far.

Gold, as I'm completing information on more and more years, I find it rather cumbersome to type in each year in the search bar just to get to the next year or to the previous year. I think you should add some sort of template so that, for example if I'm viewing the year 2000, 1999 and 2001 are just a click away at the top or bottom of the page.

As far as I know, there's no quick way to do +1 or -1 for dates. :(
We could always create a category for years and days, like "Dates" (use proper caps, peepz!), or something. In turn, that category could go into the little-known "Miscellaneous" category, or something. But a template could also work, or something.

I don't recommend that. It's not polite to use sequencers' work without their permission, even though they don't have any legal backing if they say you can't.
Also, this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Picture_tutorial) has info on how to use images.
