Got my House Boat shirt in the mail today so I'm making this thread

Anyone here into pop punk, and if so, to what extent? Green Day and Blink-182? The Ergs and Dear Landlord? I've been listening to a lot of Descendents myself, especially Cool To Be You, and have been really big on The Steinways and related acts the last couple months.

So uh DISCUSS

Why must I be the one who has to know?
I'm not the one who messed up big time
So spare me the details, if you don't mind

Yeah, that's my second favorite on the album. The rest I can take or leave.

I liked like half of it, but it was definitely way too bloated with filler

Thinking about how I never got to see The Ergs! really bums me out, I know they'll probably reunite someday but it won't be the same. I barely even knew of them before they broke up, I think I first heard DRCR in 08.

I like The Steinways and all those other bands from the NJ scene too but something about The Ergs! just clicked with me so hard and they've consistently been my favorite band since I discovered them.

Barrakuda McMurder - More Songs About Girlfriends & Volcanoes

EP uploaded by the band themselves for free (proof cause the mods probably won't believe me (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=406563870&blogId=519815029)), really think a lot of you should check these guys out

The Descendents are one of my favorite bands of all time.
In fact, I designed my senior yearbook after their 1994 album, Everything Sucks, and the only ones who realized it were teachers, and they didn't say anything about it until it was all printed and distributed.
My graduating class hates me, so I extracted my revenge, hahaha.

My friend and mentor is directing the upcoming film about Screeching Weasel, another damn good band. If you've never heard of them, I highly recommend them.

The Queers are really good too, as are Jawbreaker, ALL, and The Lemonheads.

As for later/newer pop punk, I'm not too big of a fan, mostly because it all seems to sound the same. Blink-182 are funny guys, Green Day's first two major releases were pretty good, and Weezer rarely fails to please, but most of their contemporaries aren't anything special.

The biggest problem with the label "pop punk" is that it's usually a misnomer, since it's usually a pop act utilizing simple chords and calling themselves alternative. I'm not saying there aren't good bands out there now, but it sure seems like pop punk is a thing of the past.
