View Full Version : So one of my Managers left...

I don't think I've honestly cried this much in a long time. :(

It was completely unexpected too.

I started working at Ace back in September and, come to think of it, I think today marks my fourth month working there.

Jeremy can only be described as the "cool manager" type. Y'know, the type of manager who is relatively laid back and likes to joke around about things and have fun, while still doing his job. You could also probably call him a bit of a drifter too, one who just goes wherever life takes him, and whatever happens, happens, and he's fine with it.
He's in his thirties or so, not married, rides a motorcycle he fixed up himself called Matilda, and is a part of a band. He claims to have printed his resume off the internet, which is how he got a manager's position.
He'd often tease a lot of people but it was all in good fun, and people liked him a lot. Our store has a little junk food section, and he'd sometimes buy whoever wanted one Hershey Bars or M&Ms.

Now that I think about it though, his way of leaving was just like him.

He was off tonight and came in about a half hour until closing. I saw him and said Hello and he went into the middle of the floor to talk with Tom, the store manager, and Scott, the floor guy who was on.

So I'm not allowed to leave my register due to me being the only cashier on at the time, so I just ring people up and then when things got quiet again, he came up to my register.

I ring him up under the employee discount (he bought something that had an original price of .29 cents), and he paid the .3 cents.

I ask him if he wants the receipt, and he says this:
"No, because that's my last transaction."

He goes on to say how he's leaving and asks me what are two reasons that people leave jobs for. I told him "because they don't like it here," and "they were let go," I was honestly too stunned to think of anything else.

So he just put his hand out and I shook it.

He turns towards the door and says "Be good."

He was the guy who helped me count out my register almost every time I counted out. He said he didn't like kids, but made an exception for me (me being 17 might have helped also though).

We'd give one another high fives and he'd usually come to my drawer to purchase things. He taught me a lot, and if my ride wasn't there at closing time, he'd wait until I was picked up.

He'd often make fun of my height and call me either "Little Bit" or "Little One."

If it isn't evident by now, I'm really gonna miss him. He was one of the reasons I looked forward to going to work, he and some of the people I work with. :(

I really hope he comes in to visit sometimes...

TLDR: The cool manager where I work left, and only the bland, busy, and serious managers are left. I'm sad. :(

ITT: Discuss any particularly "cool" person you know. They could be a teacher, a coworker or whatever.

I'm still shaking.

Wow... You were really attached to this guy, weren't you? It isn't often that people literally cry or shake when a co-worker leaves...

Well, here's to hoping for the best. Try and make friends with one of the other people near you maybe? Worth a shot. :rwpunch

That bites, Twilight... There's nothing worse than when you find out a good friend is going away. I'm sure you'll be able to fill the void at work eventually though. When one door closes, another opens up. Just keep your chin up and remain positive. :)

This sort of happened to me within the past few days.

There's an old guy at work that has been working for UPS for over 20 years or so. I'm not sure why, but I always end up befriending the elderly people at my jobs. He and I would always hang out while we were waiting for the last planes to arrive for us to unload. He had been in a car accident earlier in December and since then said his back had been really hurting his work ability. (note, he's elderly; about sixty or so) Last week he stopped showing up to work. It looks like he won't be able to come back. :(

At least he may be able to visit :D

I'm fairly close to Scott and the evening cashiers as well.

I mean, about a month ago, our electrical guy, Moon, left. I didn't find out he actually left until two weeks after he did. O.o

And the original store manager, Linda, was let go, but I wasn't all that close to her because we never really worked together.

This reminds me of Willis and Mike. Willis was hilarious, running around the kitchen, fist pounding people. One time, one of my waiter friends was delivering a pie to a table. Turns out Willis is the one who ordered it and pushed his face into it. Best April Fool's Day ever.

Mike was a different type of awesome. He was always there when somebody needed a ride to work. His humor was mainly insulting people jokingly, and pretended to mis-hear everything, scramble what you say around, and jokes about the food we served. The best time was when he got stuck in the elevator. "Ha, you guys had to stay late because I was in an elevator. Now we're even."

We got new management the beginning of '08 because we changed companies. The new ones were numerous (it took 8 of them when we only had 3 prior with Cura) but they were all stuck up, too.

Most people who work as store managers are generally not happy, I think. Because most cousins who ever worked as that say most of Manager jobs are underpaid.

I'm unemployed, but I know how it feels to see a loved one go away.

Sympathy.

One less manager = more opportunity to slack off.

I ring him up under the employee discount (he bought something that had an original price of .29 cents), and he paid the .3 cents.

You sell items that cost 29/100 of a cent? Wow. I believe you mean either $0.29 or 29 cents.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me this time last year. Except it was the coolest manager I have ever worked with. It was also two other guys
one being my best work mate and a guy who pretty much taught me how to do my job we spent a long time working together then one day I'm told he had a heart attack and died. After that this girl who I thought liked me stabbed me in the back. yeah it was really hard to work there last year because now the replacement manager is a total hard ass and would stroke out before he was nice to his employees.

He was the only manager who would let you get away with slacking off.

And I'm used to writing cents that way. :/

That seriously sucks to hear that. It is such shit in a box that good things never seem to last long enough. Anyway, speaking of cool people. My semester is coming to an end and I'm seriously going to miss my philosophy teacher. He is such a cool guy and I loved talking with him. He was the classic cool teacher and didn't treat any of us like we were idiots, he treated us like our opinions mattered. That class was the only one I looked forward to and I'm sad that next week is the last one.

That's sad, Twi! I had the same thing happen to me last year. There were two Brians who worked at the grocery store I work at. One of the Brians went off to be a teacher, and that was ok, I didn't really know him...anyway, the other Brian was the person who hired me...I got along well with him. One day, he wasn't there...and I had to turn in my schedule. (He did the scheduling as well) I found out he had had a disagreement with the owner of the store, and he was let go.

It was a sad day. :(

And it was bittersweet leaving some of my favorite teachers in HS....mainly my choir and spanish teachers...luckily they have facebook :P (since i'm graduated they added me :D )

Hm. Well it's wrongwrongwrongwrongwrongwrongwrongwrong. Anywho, sucks that he left, in that case. I just meant that since the economy is shit right now, they might not replace him, which means more opportunity for slacking off!
