I bite my nails. A lot. So much as that they bleed sometimes and I am unaware of them, making me have to clean my keyboard because they start to bleed.
Anyway, I tried this in the past, two other times really. First time, two years ago, I tried to quit biting my nails cold turkey. The result was me becoming paranoid, and insane. The other time was last year, I wore gloves. People said I was acting like Michale Jackson.
Now I wear band-aids. At least now I can bite them and have no consequences, and it helps oe to stop goingv crazy.
I need to stop biting my nails :(

Woah... crazy. I'm a chronic nail-biter too, but I've never gone so far as to bite till they all bleed heavily.
Maybe you could try hypnotism? Or rub hydrogen peroxide on your hands so they taste terrible!

My nails are just too hard to bite. I mean, I chew on them, but it's like chewing on a mechanical pencil: it could eventually break, but it won't be easy. Clipping my nails causes them to fly in every which direction, too.

I'm a nail biter, but damn..... 'til they bleed? Jesus. Maybe you should stop washing your hands. When you get sick and die you'll probably learn to stop chewing on them.

Oh good. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.
So much as that they bleed.
...aaaannnnddd I'm outta here.
Question. Why? I do it while knowing so...but to bleed? You need to see a doctor or someone.

I bite my nails an awful lot too. In fact, I have paronychia right now because of biting my nails. I don't make myself bleed too often but when you do it hurts. :P

Chew gum instead.

This thread just gave me a little bit of deja vu, like I've seen it before.
It was made today, though. Strange.

I bite my actual fingers instead of my nails :P
Either that or you can try dipping your fingers into something bitter. There's this medicine out their that specifically is for nail biters, but I can't think of what it's called. :(
Or chew gum.

My dog used to bite his nails till they bled. The vet told us to put a VERY light coat of wasabi on them. He learnt to stop straight away! Not compering you to a animal though.

Well, it isn't just my nails. The bleeding comes from me picking away the skin that is ABOVE the nail...

Clearly you've never played a Death Knight in World of Warcraft. Rotations = runes evenly spread out. I first chew the thumb of one hand, and move up to the pinky, then repeat with the other hand. By the time I'm through with both hands the thumb nail has grown back, just like my runes in World of Warcraft.
Also, you don't have to go apeshit on a nail. Don't bite the nail off, chew it. Savour it. Enjoy it. Bite the skin around the nail until it's delicate enough to crack a safe. You can get a good two or three days out of one finger that way. Eat lots of oranges too. If you can't peel that shit with your bare hands then your nails are too short. Take a break. Get into lip biting, the skin on the lips are rather succulent and chewy.

I don't bite my nails but I do "clack" my fingers all the time and I can't stop (wathever it's called in english, you know pressing your fingers against the other hand -or any similar procedure- to make them do a noise and feel them more agile)

Dude, I bite my nails really bad too. They are really gross looking, but they never bleed for some reason. I recommend that every time you get the urge to bite them, just file them instead. It keeps your hands busy and makes your nails look nicer so you're less likely to think " Ooh, there's a hangnail I'm gonna bite that".

Yes. When my lips get chappy, I actually enjoy biting the skin off of them. More satisfying than nail biting. Thumbnails, in my opinion, are the most fun biting off. More enjoyable while it lasts than the others.

Nail biting is a gross, nasty habit, but I, too, bite my nails... Thankfully I'm not as bad as some of you guys though. I only bite my fingernails when I think they're getting too long. :p

After I started violin, never. I cut them with nail clippers once they're past .5 mm. That's about once a week.
I know for pianists, it's good if they cut them once they're 1.2 mm long or they else hear clacking noises that distract from the music.

Have never bitten my nails. As a result, have to cut them more often which is a pain in the ass.

I am in the nail biter club too, I always end up biting too much and take too much nail off and it hurts >: Never had them bleed though, but still I know I've got to stop D:

I have never chewed on my nails, but I do pick at them a lot. I love it when I pick them off just a little too short. The feeling of pressing your fingertips against another surface is orgasmic, and that magnifies it. Not to the point of real pain, mind you, but just a little...^_^
