At a meeting today Sony announced that the PS3 will be shipped worldwide before Thanksgiving is celebrated in the states. They also mentioned that they will have an online service similar to Xbox Live. And finally, they said something about needing a hardrive to play games. Besides Sony nobody knows the pricing of the console and whether or not the hardrive will be included with it. For the full story click here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6145972.html).

It doesn't surprise me that the launch of the PS3 has been delayed. Spring is already pretty much upon us and there hasn't been very much publicity about the PS3 yet. Put one and one together and it makes sense. The result is interesting however... Will the proximity of the Revolution's launch affect the PS3's?

I don't think Revolution will have any impact on the PS3's launch at all since most casual gamers don't know anything about the Rev.
Anybody who didn't see this delay coming really should..well...learn to see things better.
Now I wonder if the PS3 will launch around the time of Zelda...which would serve Nintendo right for delaying it so much, I laugh heartily whenever I watch the E3 trailer (2004) and it says "Coming Soon" at the end.

Launching alongside Revolution, this could be intersesting. Maybe you're right Hakey, maybe Nintendo did delay Zelda for that a reason. To challenge Sony and get it out in time for Christmas.

Fixed, although I have this odd feeling the three may end up hitting around the same timeframe.

Thanksgiving is an American holiday that has something to do with Indians helping Pilgrams. Nobody ever properly explains it to anyone, but we don't care since there's so much food. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM........

If my memory serves me correct, Nintendo did the same thing with the launch of the PlayStation 2. Majora's Mask came out the same day as the PlayStation 2 did in North America.

No no, you misunderstand me I don't think Nintendo deliberatly did this at all...I believe Zelda has been finished for quite awhile and then they delayed it to add Revmote functionailty to it.
If the PS3 releases around the time of TP then the PS3 wins, every time.
And about Halo 3 being released the same day of the PS3..didn't Microsoft retract that statement?
