View Full Version : The RWP Merchandise Project.

Ok I’ve been putting this off, I’m not sure why. I think now’s the time to get the ball rolling…
I’ve been working on some T-shirts etc that will be available to buy from the website. I know there's been talk of T-shirts for a while, although the idea proved popular, nothing ever happened. I’ve been looking at the old art contests, Deviant Art club, comics etc that you guys have done, some you have a lot of talent.
I’m looking for people that want to help out by submitting their artwork. The work will have to be your own, no copyright images. I am looking for work of a high standard, but from what I’ve seen so far, that shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t let this discourage anyone from taking part though, I don’t just want traditional artists, I’m looking for a wide range art of design skills:
Artists
Illustrators
Graphic Designers
Pixel/Sprite Artists
Cartoonists
3D Artists
etc.
If you think you could bring something to the project, even if it's just some ideas, then please put your name down in this thread and I’ll give you some more details. I’m not looking for a commitment to do lots of work, just a few designs or permission to use work that you’ve already done. Full credit will be given to anyone taking part.
There are a few people that I can think of who should join in, and I may begin to harass them if I don’t find their names on the list ;)

There's been talk of RWP merchandise for ages! I'm just glad it's closer to becoming a reality. I'm all for it! :approve:
As for an idea, I remember Hakey Wake proposed something along the lines of customized t-shirts or caps, each taylored to a specific member. That might be tricky however, or it might not be very practical, but I'm throwing it out there. Track down Hakey and ask him about it.

Wow. I've always wanted to be a good artist. :) This is one of those times....
I must not have been here for this, I've looked at some old threads that those strange guests are looking at though...

Yes! I rememebr that and thinking it was a good idea at the time, though the only snag is that:
I’m looking for people that want to help out by submitting their artwork. The work will have to be your own, no copyright images.
Which I believe prevents the use of most of the avatars here. So no Blue Falcon Shirt for me. :( (Although perhaps a Red one...)

Well, since having to capital to print a batch of shirts isn’t really an option, the most practical way of making this happen is to open up a café press shop. The shop can be easily integrated with website, using the premium subscription. This will allows us to produce as many designs as we like, on a variety of products and it won’t cost a thing. I’ve created a free temporary shop for people to upload their designs. Anyone is welcome to have a bash at this. :)
Edit: I've upgraded the shop now, so if anyone else wants to help then they'll have let me know.

I'm not entirely sure what goes on with that cafe press thing but it looks good.
If it lets me get at least a T-Shirt for the RWP It's ok in my books :)

Any thought on baseball caps? I never was much for the whole T-Shirt idea, although I did like the idea of contributing to the RWP via the purchase of some merchandise. A mug maybe?
If you're going through cafe express like intended, then will there to be some alternative options? Or is the plan to focus strictly on shirts at the moment?

It's a cute idea, to be honest I don't think I'd wear a RWP.. and my user name isn't the best thing to put on a shirt I'd wear to school, lol.
I'd get one for the heck of it though, hehe.
Actually come to think of it I wouldn't be able to wear it until like October anyways, lol..

I was thinking, a variety of T’s, caps, mugs, mousemats, stickers, badges, but we can do any of the products.

So if we're not allowed to have copyrighted images... that means we can still draw our own versions of the characters, we just can't use any official Rare art in our design? And do we have to put the Rare logo somewhere on it, or not?

I would buy it, but I suck at art. Maybe some compy-generated, but that's streching it.

Yeah, anything that you’ve drawn yourself is totally fine, no Rare logos though. It would be cool to have a "Rare Witch Project" somewhere, even if it's just in text underneath. There might not be enough room on the small badges, I guess it depends on the design. I can provide a logo if you need one.

I think that would be too small, images have to be 200 dpi. The image would have to be redrawn larger, or traced in a vector program.
Unfortunately you can't have images printed on the back.

It's non-profit. For example, you can print out an FAQ someone else wrote for a game. However, you CAN'T print out and sell an FAQ someone else wrote for a game.

I know, that's what I meant. He's not making money off of the Rareware characters at the top. If he puts them on a shirt and sells them, that's different. Hence, more illegal.

Update for anyone who's interested:
So far we have t-shirts, badges, stickers, mugs, mouse mats, and caps. I haven't had much input from other members, which is a shame as I've seen quite a few people here have artistic talent. The free trial for this shop runs out in a couple of days, so I'm aiming for the shop to be up and running by the end of the week. Most of the designs can be re-used on other products, so I'm thinking maybe there should be some kind of request facility.
Most of the products are lacking descriptions, so if anyone would like to help me out with that, it would be appreciated.
In the future we could run competitions in the creative cavern, the winner getting a mug or a t-shirt or something for their efforts.

This is cool, Mandy! Hopefuly we'll be able to get this off of the ground. I bet shipping wil be high, though, eh? Perhaps we could have certain members in different countries be in-charge of getting things ready for members in their particular country? That way in America I won't have to pay $25 just to have my items shipped? I'm not exactly sure how that would work, but I'm sure it could be worked out...:)
