View Full Version : RWP Constructive Criticism

Hey there, RWP.
I've been away for a short time, but I lurked for the last few days.
I've noticed a problem among the Forums that I feel a need to point out.
You guys are getting ridiculously lazy. I have two specific points about this I want to address.
1) Stop posting threads that have already been posted.
Does no one take the time anymore to make sure a thread hasn't been posted (See the BttF and Rare/Activision thread being posted both twice, for example.)?
I really don't see why people can't do a sixty second search to make sure your thread hasn't been already posted.
2) There is far too much poor capitalization and punctuation.
Stop treating the Forum as a giant chat room. Guys, make more of an effort to capitalize and punctuate your sentences. I know most of you are at least of average intelligence, so would you pretty please (With a cherry on top?) stop acting like you're an eight year old using a keyboard for the first time?
In the chat such typing is acceptable since everything is done in real time, and you often have to speedily type out your messages in order to get them across.
On a Forum you should have the decency and respect to be clear. You're not pressed for time, so take the time to make your message look legible.
Am I coming off as a bit of an asshole right now? Probably. Is this basically a shorter version of that thread L33T made a few weeks ago? Yes. Did it need to be said again anyways? Yes.
I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but c'mon guys. Let's start putting more efforts into our posts and threads.
I think that a good way to start teaching proper grammar to everyone would be forced readings of the Bible. The Bible is the epitome of proper grammar and sentence structure, as well as truth of the universe, so I think forcing every RWP to become a Christain would be a generally positive thing. Perhaps we could have some kind of Bible test that new members have to pass before they join? The Bible is also never repetitive EVER, so that would stop making people repeat threads.
This is my 11,000th post, by the way.

#1 is a thing bound to happen on every forum by accident.
#2 isn't common at all with any respectable member.*
So you're basically bitching about people accidentally posting about existing threads (the two threads you mentioned are the only ones in recent history I can think of) and complaining about grammar when there are other sites with much worse grammar amongst its general userbase.
*Alakazam is an exception, he has some sort of excuse I forget or something. Or it's just his nature.

So because other forums have terrible grammar that makes it okay for the RWP to do so?
They're all going to hell now for not being able to write like Jesus talked. It's insulting to Christ.
Jesus was a TEACHER, so if you ignore the things Jesus taught you're surely going to Hell.
I'm worried about everyone's immortal souls here.

No offense Avarice, but I don't really understand how you can leave for a couple of weeks and then come back, expecting everyone to take you seriously when you tell them to change.
Stephen and Jinjonator deliberately post without proper grammar when they're being sarcastic or joking. Take a look at me and Jinjy's wall conversation as an example.
As for the searching, who honestly cares all that much? I'd honestly rather see a new thread than an ancient one get bumped, personally. In fact, I occasionally have thoughts of re-posting threads that I typed years ago because there are new members and others' opinions may have changed over the time.

3) Stop posting boring-ass threads for people to post in for the sake of posting.

Terrible grammar is sometimes INTENTIONAL because text does not have all the nuances of speech.
like if i type like this without any commas or caps
It gives the reaser the impression that I'm not meant to be taken too seriously. There's a reason why its like the chat, because if translated to speech it would be more like we're friends talking to friends, not fans reading our favorite author's book. Also, where is the line? Why don't we indent? Multi-line posts aren't proper either. They aren't proper paragraphs. Should we stop sentence fragments as well? Frankly, there has been a million of these threads and it's enough. Everyone here knows proper grammar. When the grammar is poor, it's intentional. My parody thread didn't LITERALLY address your points, but it addressed your points nonetheless.
So yeah, here's this post: ^
As for the Christian thing, awesome joke thread

That's why Avarice is a vet and you're not.
I'll admit one thing, It's true the forums are degrading. I just don't care that it is degrading and I don't post as much. Avarice, the old days of RWP are gone, you must face those facts. Most of the hackers are gone because there is nothing much to hack and Rare itself is dying anyway. The only reason why the rules worked in the past was partially due to a harsher administration (after Snitz). Let's face it, the rules are lean and lame.
The search function also degraded. Not as good as it used to be, so that's another reason why new threads keep going on and on.
