Computers are capable of great joy. And great sorrow. I got a call informing me that the computer I have all my stuff on has a useless hard drive. It died. WHY????
Anyways, so list your computer woes here. I'll start.

"Let's remember the good things the computer gave me.
-Tons of Banjo and various musicians MP3s, that I was hoping to burn to CD.
-turnsheets of all my characters, able to be exported into flash for a cartoon I may one day make
- a pay-per-download copy of The Games Factory Pro which is toast now...
- all the wonderful doodles, background images, etc. which is a wealth of creativity.
- all the amazing programs that I downloaded from the internet.
- MIDIs (like from Dr. Fruitcake."

I'm really devastated right now. How about you?

Uh, not to make you hate me or anything, but I have never experianced something that drastic. Usually, though, my computer will decide that it wants to go to bed while I have nearly finished typing an EXTEMELY long report for school or a post. That I really do hate.

Let's just say my computer needs formatting every 2 months. And believe me, I barely install anything, I don't download anything that contains viruses, or anything that would potentially increase the need for a fresh install. It's just... Windows.

I had to format my Hard Drive and reinstall Windows this morning. I'm still in the process of installing the programs (I'm almost done now) but I had to:

Install a Printer, Scanner, Webcam, Capture Card, Sound Card. Tons of Programs

and I had to Set up: my Home Netowork, A Netowrk Printer, Share the Internet connection.

And then comes the testing....

Since 1998 I have never had to reformat any computer I've had. I've only had 3-4 viruses and they were all dealt with quickly and weren't that severe.

On the other hand...

My one computer was coming really close to death right before I got this one. So if I hadn't gotten a new computer the week I did, that one would have bombed. My old computer used to freeze and get weird errors all the time before I got my new one last year. So far I can't recall this computer freezing once and only had one screwy blue screen before shut down. Its beautiful...

My storage hard drive died out of the blue and I lost a crap load of stuff due to the name of the drive. I'm talking source code for projects, codes, movies, erm..other files, websites, premiere studio files, photoshop files. I just got complacent due to the fact it was a separate storage drive. My Operating systems reside on a separate drive and anything I need to save is saved on the storage drive. So with nothing on the OS drive, I can safely reformat at the drop of a hat, and I would reformat regularly to keep the system fresh.

One day, the storage momma just died and I felt a part of me died with it :) Seriously, I lost a loads. Sure, movies and stuff are easy to get again, but source code etc is priceless. I should've backed up regularly but as I said, I got complacent. I bought a new 80gig drive and installed it, and within a week it had screwed again. Unbelievable! Obviously, I hadn't had time to fill it up yet and didn't lose anything as everything I had up to that point I could just copy to the OS drive temporarily because the storage drive had not completely died, just had a horrible metallic clicking noise and would hang for ages, but I managed to salvage everything from it.

Well, now I have a Seagate 80gig for my storage and it hasn't played up once. Needless to say, I back up very regularly now ,and that is the rule for anyone.

Live it, breath it, sleep it. BACK IT UP! I cannot stress enough.

Awhile ago I stupidly stayed on the net during a thunderstorm... and as some of you may remember I fried my modem... so I wasn'r here for about 3 - 4 months...

And also coz it was an internal modem and my comp is a Laptop, I had to send the whole damn thing to IBM... so I was without a comp for about a month while they fixed it...

IBM also replaced my hard drive for some reason... no idea why... no complaints though...

It's fun to immagine some sort of alter-reality where computers are incapible of crashing. I'd like to live there.

I read once where Bill Gates bragged about a flawless computer of his. That is bragging? I for one am GLAD he has a flawless computer! If his computer is bugged, we're all even worse off than we already are now...
