Old thread was quite old.

I wonder if the narrative is going to be added in on the 20th or not.

Also, yay for more single player features being added in general.

I'm surprised that he has the nuance that those who buy in Beta will need to purchase the game again when it's released.

In general the development of minecraft has been shaky at best, he really needs to get a dedicated programming team if he wants to see the progress he keeps promising.

No no no..

You buy alpha = Everything is free
You buy beta = Everything UP until the full game is free, and see below
You buy the full game = Content updates after the full game costs

I believe that's why he's hiring more people.

Also, (I think this was what Whyme was saying,) he's clarified through twitter that if you buy Beta, you get the full game for free, but expansions will cost. It's all a little unclear.

Ah, misunderstanding on my part there

The sore spot about the programming right now is that he did hire a programmer, who then immediately got to work on his next game rather than MC

I mean, it's his prerogative what he works on since he certainly isn't obligated to continue developing MC, but the whole situation with the constant bugs makes it very difficult to maintain a multiplayer server.

...It's alpha, soon to be early beta. There are supposed to be bugs.

Of course there are supposed to be bugs, I'm not obtuse. Have you tried running a multiplayer server? Every time there's an update he fixes a few bugs, but two things happen: new bugs pop up (expected for an alpha) and old ones reappear (not expected)

As it is, it's extremely tedious having your server break every time you run an update and the time spent maintaining said server can be outrageous.

At this point I've pretty much given up on playing multiplayer since I can't rely on a server being up and if there is, constant crashes and rollbacks ensure my already sparse gameplay time is wasted.

I'm not saying minecraft is a pile of crap, but Notch really needs to get a dedicated programming and QA team. These things will hopefully be coming soon, dude just needs to find the time to implement them. He certainly has the scratch to fund it.

Well the server I've been running in my house has been fine.

Try running a server that has X and Y coords down from -10,000 to 10,000 with 500 unique accounts.

That's just asking for things to go wrong right there.

I think that's a bit too much.

A little over the top.

But I'm sure such a server exists.
