The castle is made of cobblestone. It's a house 'in the country side' that was wood. I knew lightning could do it but I thought it was rare not 3 times in 10 minutes :/

I'm in the process of building an awesome rail cart system which connects the castle to the house and an Island where Catfair has a place. Luckily that wasn't damaged (to my knowledge) as that was already sandstone.

Found my post about lighting fires:

A little warning for those who have a flammable structure; while lighting strikes can only occur during snow or rain, they can actually create weather-resistant fire.

That is to say, lightning can create a fire that becomes large enough to resist being put out be rain. I don't know if this is a bug or intended feature.

It is rare for this to happen, but it can occur on any block that is within 144 blocks of an active player.

This means, that for every lighting storm, there is a chance that somebodys house may burn down.

So... if you log on one day and find your house destroyed, it may have suffered the same unlucky fate as a sorrunding forrest (which, btw, more forest = more risk).

So yeah, lighting is not so rare. Lightning-created rain-resistant fires are however.

Any flammable sturcture has a chance of this happening, so long there is as an active player is within 144 blocks.

You'll need an op/mod to fix this. Happens all the time to people.

Alteratively you could wait until the server restarts at 8AM GMT each day (1AM PST).

Well I've rebuilt my house for the 3rd time today. The first two I'm sure were caused by lightning, was in the process of covering the roof with dirt after the 1st fire when it went up in flames again. 2nd time I was also in the process of rebuilding when another storm hit.

I suspect the map file has grown larger and is cuasing this, or it could just be related to MC_5.2

I already lost 8 buckets and other stuff in lava becuase of the lag (was sneaking along a bridge when it lagged out). Most anoying I find is when the server thinks I have stopped moving or that I am moving right instead of forward.

As for respawning, that is only useable in the classic/creative mode. For the RWP SMP MineCraft server, put /spawn into chat.

BTW; could an OP please fix that Lost Property Box? It backwards and also too close to spawn, so no one can use it.

I myself found a single torch, not sure where it came from. Others I know have found stuff around town or whatever that would do good in the Lost Property Box... if it were working...

Sorry about that. It is just that there is acutally a mod to cheat in SMP, known as X-Ray. Screenshots kinda look like that too...

Ofcourse, there is anti-cheat mods out there to detect X-Ray and the like, but I believe that the RWP server doesn't use them (we rely on trust).

Wierd. I think it always faces you North we you log back in, but appart from that everything else should be saved.

Note to those who go AFK:

When you go AFK and night falls, nobody can sleep becuase you are not in a bed. Imagine what it is like when there are 4+ people on and somebody is AFK...

If you need to go AFK, that is fine. Just make sure you disconnect until you return! Please!

There are some horrible chunk issues with my tower.
That is to say, two of the chunks have loaded the wrong thing, so there is a giant column taken out of it with what appears to be the entrance to someones house loaded in it in one part, and a small tree farm in another.

Until the problem is fixed, yes it is advisable to put your stuff into chest before you disconnect.

Possibly your just talking about how went you sleep in a bed it generates a new respawn point for you. Either always sleep in a known bed or use the /sethome /home commands.

This is only a problem with the current saving issues. Keep track of the time so you know when the server is about to restart.

@Ice: I suggest downloading the map to a local machine and running something like MCedit on it. This will allow you to use the repair feature on bad region files and to easily rebuild what you need to.

Sometimes getting kicked for "moving too fast".
Getting hurt just walking around sometimes.
Returned to where I found Pumpkins the other day to find a different chunk.
Logged in to mid air and falling amoungst tons of zombies.
Fell through the floor outside town and down and down and down.
Chunks loading very slow.

so.... yep server needs a backup and re-install.

I suggest closing off the server for 24-hours whilst everythign is sorted.

A note of warning to anyone who wished to actually play atm; put your items into a chest when you log off and don't build any new structures. This wil help ensure you don't lose anything major when reverting to a backup.

Not sure what you are refering too, but there is a type of virus that would do this.

This type of virus known Malware and is designed to make the use of a persons computer difficult, but without removing the ability to use the internet (though often comes from a Trojan virus that will change all your webpages).

Some Trojan viruses (a type that is designed to let other virus types in and out) could do this too, but it is not a benificial method. A Trojan would simply hide itself instead.

As for forcing MineCraft to close, you actually need to end the proocess called Java or JavaW. This is becuase MineCraft runs inside a virtual enviroment (a Java system, not to be confused with Java Script).

I have seen some major lag with chunk loading, myself.

For those who as the question "how can low disk space cuase all these other issues?"; the answer is "cache". Part of how MineCraft works (and most programs) is to temporarly store information as data and also has error handling that is triggered when a data write fails. When this error handling activates the program starts trying to resolve the issue rather than running normally (otherwise it would just crash).

Until the space problem is resolved, don't build anything and don't bother with collecting items. It may be lost during the restoration.

You are safe however, to simply walk around and visit places. Use the F3 key to toggle the display of your co-ordinates for writing them down if you find anything good.

Remember, guys, if you build your nether fortress out of netherack, it will just get blown into little teeny bits by Ghasts. Use cobblestone, or glass.

That problem is easily fixed if you have a few flint and steel. The ground is made of torches.

Yes, but cobblestone is more useful in the nether than anything else, as Ghasts can't blow it up. They can't destroy Glass, either.

Could we have a free-stuff/junk chest in town? We would need about 2 large chest I think.

Right now I have set up my own junk box in Misc Bargins, so people can enjoy all sorts of random free stuff. Makes more sense to have a community based on though, so anyone can put stuff in it.

Right now I either put stuff in the free-stuff chest, or I just throw it in my lava furnace.

Quite often I get just a black screen after logging in, if I do manage to get on correctly lag is so bad its unplayable, and the world never renders for me. Cant even move about my own house the rendered area is so small.

I know others have mentioned it as well and I am receiving a lot of lag myself too(cost me a few thousand tokens worth of building materials working on my lava tunnel).

Either somebody was board and made that, or more likely you have stumbled upon one of the rare things that can happen when a new region is generated.

This is more likely to happen the further away from the central point you are. What was your distance? I have gone up to -4000 in the x direction and saw some neat cave formations along with a lava column.

Just ask an OP to fix the mistake for you when they are next online.

You just give them the 64 blocks then they throw it all into lava and credit you the original cost.

Presuming of course, you are allowed to reclaim in this case (I reckon you should be able).

You need to both get WHitelisted, and I think downgrade to 1.5 for the time being.

You need to both get WHitelisted, and I think downgrade to 1.5 for the time being.

Hopefully 1.6.x will be fully operational soon, but until then, yes you do need to downgrade to 1.5

Oh I definitely don't think it was mean of you, I actually just skimmed the first post and totally missed all of that info but the funny thing is I went back and read it and I think when I was editing my previous post you posted because my post was last at the time of the edit. :p I just didn't want you to think I was editing it after you posted because I personally consider that rude when it comes to internet forums. I do appreciate you giving me this info though. I hope I'm whitelisted and in the meantime I'll work on getting what I need to downgrade for the time being, as well as play single player to get a better feel for the game.

I wouldn't mind doing that, it's just the time frame as to when the server may be updated. I like to be involved more by doing multiplayer whenever its an option in a game like this so I would prefer that. I think I'm most interested in the economy system and all that. But I'll be content with single player.

I have now just finished the border of my land. I now only have to clean up a few more mountains and finish laying the tiles.

I had a little help from Spyke with clearing some of the mountain area.

I have attached a picture to this post of what my old house entrance used to look like, becuase I have only just finished rebuilding it.

For those who wish to visit, an easy way is to use the warp "CoolJosh3k" (/warp cooljosh3k) to teleport right to one of the entrances to my land.

Spyke's Pyramid is really neat.

If you want to find it, you can get there by going in a direct path from the back of my house. I put a sign and a few redstone torches there to highlight the way.

How's the railway system plans going?

Always planning a new rail cart line. First line was from GM2K and my castle not far from the city, to my main base. All enclosed in glass, about 10K blocks of glass used in the construction. From my main base there is a cart dispenser system that GM2K built. You push a button, it calls up a cart, you get in, press another button and away you go..for a short distance where you have to operate a lever to set the destination, to Castle near the city or a short distance to Cat's island. When you return in the cart back to my base the cart automatically go's into storage when you get out, and its ready and waiting to be called up again by the next person.

The line from the Castle I intended to put in two lines, but decided against it. Look out for Sandstone Station on the way, although the rail cart wont stop there. Its where I used to mine all my sand from. (And to the thief who stole my doors from Sandstone Station, was it really so difficult to make two of your own doors?)

The next rail line I put in (still not finished), takes you to my monster trap in the sky...cant get the monster trap working exactly as I hoped at the moment, so that rail line is an unfinished project.

The 3rd rail cart is a Scenic Tour from my main base (take the train from the castle near the city to get to my base). Its takes you on a tour of the area, through tunnels and through a large lava fall. No cart dispenser here, just hop in, hit the button and enjoy the ride. (any one caught stealing my carts will have their house burnt down, same go's for stealing my rail line, which has happened before. It takes a lot mining to get enough iron for a rail system)

4th rail cart line may be to a desert area to visit a Pryamid (inspired by Spykes pyramid).

I'll be back when the server is upgraded to 1.6. assuming the server works for me, which it hasn't lately.

Spent a few hours on MC today...

I Laid down at least 1 thousand more tiles and built 3 new structures.

1st structure is some kind of glass in a sand-dirt box thing (yeah, I don't really know what to call it :o).

2nd structure is a monster cave, though serving no real purpose atm.

3rd structure is a mushroom house. Ready for the 1.6.6 update it can grow both Red and Brown 'shrooms.

To the people waiting to be whitelisted, I suggest once you get on then don't build close to the city, its getting too crowded. I see there has been a huge monstrosity built near my castle and the glass sphere. I did build a huge EXTREMELY ugly monster trap in the sky, but I put it where no one can view it from there base. If any builds near my monster trap, then you need to learn to enjoy the view, or at least put up with it :)

You can always build a rail cart system once you get established to move to other areas.

Soon as I get back, I will be extending my tiles (stoneslab) out as there is alot of area for me to cover still.

That being said; here 2 tips:


Mobs cannot spawn on slabs and they look much nicer than torches all over the place.
If you get sick of seeing torches everywhere, try using lightstone instead.


edit: to make stoneslabs, you need to place cobble in a furnace, then craft the resulting stone. Else you just get cobbleslabs.

Warp to 'weekender', walk outside and jump in the rail cart.

If you hit an animal or you have to leave the cart for some reason, please return the cart to the starting position for the next person.

To all people asking about 1.6.6 and the whitelist:

Normally whitelisting takes 48 hours and an update takes 2 weeks. The reason this is being delayed so much more than usual, is yet undisclosed by Ice Mario. Rest assured however, that there is a valid explanation for the wait.

Instead of spamming the same questions over and over, please just wait like the rest of us.

Server is currently acting out the definition of block lag. Perhaps it's that memory issue again?

I would like to find that damn area and empty it. It really lags the server with it's constant writing to log file.

Yes, evil was banned for stealing my stuff. You don't play practical jokes on server admins, it's just foolish :)

I suggest you dont build to close to the city..move right out and give yourself plenty of room.
