I found out just recently enemies on my world aren't spawning. Is there a way to fix this? I just made a dark room and so far there are no enemies spawning. The difficulty is on hard too. Did I do something wrong, or is it just a a bug?

No enemies spawning anywhere or just in your dark room?
Enemies can't spawn within a certain distance of you, in case you didn't know.

Ah, I didn't know that.
How far away do they have to be to spawn?

30 blocks or something?
Something close to that.

No, I mean I don't see any enemies anywhere. Outside at night all there is are pigs, sheep, cows and chickens. The dark room didn't spawn any either.
Edit: Mobs spawn no closer than 24 blocks, but no further than a 144 x 144 area around the player's location after a short delay

If there are a lot of mobs out, hostiles won't spawn

How many would you consider "a lot"? There are always a bunch of farm animals out in front of my house, but not so many I would expect no hostile to spawn.

Make a new world and play on that one for a night. If enemies spawn, then it something in your world, such as a nearby cave with a shit-ton of monsters in it. So many, that they will not spawn anywhere else. If they do not spawn in your new world, the its a bug with your client, possibly something odd happened with an addon. I'd suggest deleting your minecraft.jar file then re-starting the game to force it to download all the files anew.

No, just deleting minecraft.jar won't re-download the jar. Delete everything in the /bin folder.

I'll try that, thanks Greatman. Hopefully it will work.

The difficulty is on hard too.
They don't teach reading comprehension these days, do they?

Perhaps he thought it was on hard, but it really isn't. There are things called mistakes, Mebecj. I never said that it was on peaceful, merely make sure it isn't.

Okay I started it up again, turned it to peaceful for a minute then back to hard and enemies started spawning. There was massive slowdown though and soon enemies started not spawning again. What does this mean?

Maybe the enemies are scared of you.

What do you mean? It sounds like they spawned and you were upset because they didn't continue to spawn. Do you want monsters like everywhere you look?

NO, I mean they stopped spawning. Some spawned, they died, and they stopped.
I'm starting to think that they aren't spawning because ifthey did, my computer might crash. It seems I get lag every time I see a mob.
