Some tips I would like to share
-Falling more then 4 blocks will do damage
-Falling many blocks into a 2-block deep pool of water will negate damage, but if you..
-Fall 50+ blocks, make sure it is into a 3-block deep pol of water. 3-block deep pools negate ALL damage
Infinite water:
You can make an infinite pool of water source blocks, so that you don't need to be walking to the lake to get water.
Just make a 1-deep 2x2 hole. Put a source of water in one corner, and another source block in the other corner. Now, you can take source blocks of water from any of the four blkocks and it'll spawn another source block.
Example:

^empty blocks
[W][_]
[_][W]
*you can't do this with lava. Lava is limited.
