Find a cool little application that you use often and want to show it to others? Post it here.

1. (Although most of you know it...) CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download)

This useful little tool will entirely wipe every last useless bit of data on your computer, from unused file extensions to browsing history across every browser. Using this will clear any kind of last used data, last opened data, and is just all around good for clearing out junk that your computer builds up over time. Everyone should use this.

2. Defraggler (http://www.piriform.com/defraggler)

A simplified defragging program that is more efficient than the one that comes standard with Windows computers. It also allows you to specify which files to defrag, how long it will take, and many more options to optimize your computers performance when it comes to defragging. I highly recommend this one.

3. Speccy (http://www.piriform.com/speccy)

A very small program that fetches every last bit of your computer's hardware information, from how many hertz your power supply can use, to how hot your system is currently running. Whenever someone asks for my specs, I just take a screenshot of the display of this program.

4. SmartClose (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/smartclose.html)

A program that will force-close every single process on your computer, other than ones that are absolutely vital for your system to run. The program automatically know the vital files, so there's no need to worry about that. It does not, however, know about your anti-virus. In which case, there is an allow list, in which you can add programs that you wish to keep running. I run SmartClose every few hours, especially after playing a game or surfing the web. You'd be surprised how many little processes pile up that aren't needed. And just in case for some reason it closes a process that makes your system unstable, it has a built in "screenshot" feature in which it will automatically restore your computer to how it was before the force-close, so there is no chance of you harming your computer.

Most of these are computer maintenance programs, although you can post anything that you find handy. Hope these help. :)

I just ran CCleaner for the first time this month. It cleared up 650 megs of space that was otherwise useless to me.

I downloaded SmartClose. It looks like it'll be really helpful. Occasionally I'll close random processes to free up memory, but this will save me a step and close the ones I don't know too much about too. Thanks Connor!

If I run into other useful programs I'll be sure to post them here.

Glad I could help, Aaron. ;)

I'll give a good example of SmartClose tomorrow. After turning my computer on fresh in the morning, doing things all afternoon, I'll then take a screenshot of the processes and CPU usage before and after SmartClose is run. You'll see a giant difference.

I use VLC (http://vlc-media-player.en.softonic.com/) on a daily basis. Its an easy, clean program that will play many types of video, mp3, flv, avi and will even repair corrupt videos.

I don't know if there's another way now, but this used to be my best way of converting Windows AVI files for editing on the Mac side of my computer. Took forever to find it a couple years ago, what with the site being down. Now it's easy to get, luckily.

Format Factory (http://www.formatoz.com/)

This is quite possibly my favorite program. It changes any file format to basically anything else. It's simple and free and has changeable colours and shit. Oh and it rips DVDs.

VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) is also fantastic.

http://manycam.com - Absolutely free screen recorder, you can disable the watermark in the text over video screen

Trillian Astra - i forget the link - Combines facebook, twitter, aim, skype, and msn into one program (as well as various others). I still use msn as it's a lovely program, but aim is amazingly annoying, so i've moved to trillian.

Team viewer - http://teamviewer.com - free (even after the trial) program that lets you remotely assist your friends and vice versa, sometimes fun to just co-op on your own screen as you browse.

This will do for now.

^ I prefer Paint.net (http://www.paint.net), It has basically the complexity and depth of photoshop with the acessibility of MS Paint. I use it for just about everything image related.

You're joking, right?
Anyway, I find jSVIcoder (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/jSVIcoder.shtml) useful for converting videos into SVI so they go on my YP-P3. It works with any Samsung device (that can play videos obv), so if you have a video playing Samsung device I'd recommend you check it out.

+1 for PdN. I use it all the time to fix up some images I took or to create stuff.

http://www.freemake.com/

-Both their converter and downloader for videos works wonderfully. It's a pain to use Vegas, as it supports whatever I don't shove into it, so Freemake's converter works quickly and painlessly, and stuff still looks nice.

http://jdownloader.org/

-If you download a bunch of crap off the internet from rapidshare, megauplaod, or anywhere, this thing gets the job done for you. It'll automatically pick up files split across parts, and lump them together.
