View Full Version : To stop creatures from spawning in town...

Mobs cannot spawn on slabs or glass, so I wondering if this is a good way to fix this problem.

Perma-Light could work aswell.

I am thinking either:

Make all grass tiles double-slabs http://www.minecraftwiki.net/images/0/0e/Double_Slabs.gif

Make all the ground out of glass ontop of grass (or other cool looking material like orange wool)

Make stripes of lava under glass

Make rows or torches in a neat fashion

Well, it wouldn't make the town look very nice...

I like the grassy look.

I like the grass too.

Perhaps rows of torches then?

Underground lava would be nice. Or green wool.

Or, just have the server settings on Peaceful...

But not both together. :x
Or, just have the server settings on Peaceful...

But where's the challenge in that?

I'm pretty sure ( with the plugins) the server doesn't spawn mobs...

I'm pretty sure you'd be wrong about that. I just went out at night during a storm and there were three skeletons in that weird compound tree outside of town.

But then where would one get monter drops? I'd rather find bones than buy them...

Creepers are way to weak with the plugin though... maybe a radius of 1 block would be okay (and 3 for a super-creeper)

Erm... where have you been playing?! o_0
Jorney out at night and they are everywhere.

Blegh, I meant inside the town not the whole world. I assume people would think that it was the town since the first post was talking about the town, I probably should have clarified though.

Objection!

Finding baddies spawning in town is the whole reason this thread exists...

Case Closed.

^How do you know the mobs didn't just wander into the town?

Good point, but for this to happen they need to follow somebody. In which case you can hear the sounds of eihter the spider, zombie or skeleton.

They do spawn in dark places, especially on people's roofs.

Not necessarily, mobs can wander about by themselves and they are attracted to (non-sun)light anyway I'm pretty sure, making a lit up town attractive to them. It really doesn't matter how the mobs are getting in anyway, my point is that lighting the place up more might be redundant if mobs are just getting in through the open gate.

Anyway, the best way to keep mobs out of town is probably just to light the motha up with torches. Alternatively, glowstone blocks every 10 or whatever blocks on the path would look quite awesome and provide excellent light. Or, use jack-o-lanterns on top of fence posts as streetlights, e.g:

O
| <- where 'O' is a jack-o-lantern and '|' is a post. I think that would look nice.

OR we could have a mob-free perimeter around the city and extending outside it a fair bit, making it unlikely for mobs to spawn near town and wander in (if that's what is happening).

Not your roof though :P

tl;dr version:
We probably need to find out exactly how mobs are getting in before deciding on a solution.

Now this, I like.

Maybe Glowstone as the floor and Jack'O'Lanterns around the outside?

Yeah that's what I was thinking for jack-o-lanterns. I think we should still keep most of the double-stone slab paths but maybe just chuck some glowstone here and there.

Why not just let them in? Adds to the fun.

Fun yes, but not when the Creeper-Nerf plugin glitches out. I don;t know how rare, but when I does Creepers do normal damage.
