I actually really like this show. Loved it ever since I saw the pilot on CN's website (way before it premiered on TV). One of my favorite shows currently on CN other than Gumball and The Looney Tunes Show.

The two are totally different. There's more to a show than the randomness.

Barring Mordecai, who's fairly likeable, Regular Show is boring and unfunny.
Boring...
The show is set in a world where now and the 80s are one. It stars a couple of twenty-something slackers who work at a park and end up getting into things including (but not limited to) causing havoc using a wizard's keyboard, rewriting history (literally...like with a pen), dimensional travel facilitated by spinning, fixing the fabric of reality, time travel, frat boy unicorns, and hyperbolic martial arts.
I guess I could...*kinda* see who you don't think it's funny...kinda, but it's anything but boring.
Mandolin
2nd June 2011, 07:55 PM
The things that happen in the show are great, sure, but the way the characters react to them make them seem blasé. Also, I don't understand why the characters are... the way they are. I could understand if they were all animals, but what the hell is Muscle Man? Why is one of them a living, walking gumball machine? There's no cohesion between them; it's randomness for randomness's sake. In Adventure Time there's an explanation. I haven't seen one here.
I don't hate the show, mind, it's just not my bag.
Adam
2nd June 2011, 08:00 PM
First of all, there really doesn't need to be an explanation because...it's a cartoon. Yeah, the fact that Adventure Time has an explanation as to why things are the way they are is cool, but it would be just as good if there wasn't one at all.
Second, I don't think the show is just random for the sake of it. It's just...the way things came out. It's not like it has that much of a function. They just happen to be what they are. Benson's just a gumball machine. It at least makes him the target of tongue-in-cheek balls jokes. Hi Five Ghost is just kinda there. No real reason. He just is.
Also, this may explain some things: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y894QNtX0VA

I didn't really make myself clear. I think the plot and the characters don't go together. The strangeness that happens seems less strange by comparison because the world as it is "normally" is already pretty freaking strange. I'd like the show a lot more if the characters were human. At least all of them minus Mordecai, Rigby, and possibly Margaret.

What does it matter that they're human?

It could be normal, but if it's causing havoc, it's dangerous.
There was an episode where Muscle Man's girlfriend (who is also whatever the hell Muscle Man is) was causing destruction and she was treated just like any other plot driving conflict in the show. Tim the Tentacle Monster is probably a really nice guy, but if he starts going after school girls, then he's a problem.
There's also the fact that a monster or creature is very, very rarely the conflict of a show. It's usually if not always some abstract force rather than someone.

From people who are mad that it's not like the old Looney Tunes. People don't understand that the creators are trying something new and don't want it to seem like a rehash of the old series (since in the past nearly every attempt to bring back the Looney Tunes has been a failure [other than Duck Dodgers]). This show's 2 million+ ratings each week proves that they're doing something right.

That's actually a good point... I may not yet have gotten into the right mindset to enjoy the show.

Doubt they will. Most hand-drawn CN shows don't last more than 3 seasons nowadays because of how expensive they are (which explains why flash shows like Johnny Test and TDI last so much longer than shows like Chowder or Flapjack).
Also, I love The LT Show :(
The new Scooby-Doo show isn't half bad either

Johnny Test and TDI are just the result of a terrible trade CN made with Teletoon, wherein they air each other's shows.
CN must have been tricked into thinking Teletoon shows were good.

I feel the Looney Tunes Show would work much better with original characters, instead of taking the Looney out of the characters and putting them into a sitcom. That's what really turns me off from it. Also, the Merry Melodies are.... horrible. LET'S MAKE ELMER FUDD SING ABOUT GRILLED CHEESE! SO FUNNY LOL.
And for Scooby-Doo, I never really liked Scooby-Doo. Adding relationships doesn't really stimulate my interest.

And this weekend, they'll show nothing but. Sonovabitch.

I agree about the so-called Merry Melodies, but the show as a whole is good. It's actually something I'd wanted to see for a long time: Looney Tunes in longform, with some measure of continuity (some!) and the characters meeting each other regularly. The only things I haven't liked about it so far are the new Gossamer and Witch Hazel Lezah. The new Lola is pretty damned funny. It's like she could have been in the original shorts all along.
And for Scooby-Doo, I never really liked Scooby-Doo. Adding relationships doesn't really stimulate my interest.
I watch it from time to time. It's okay.
It's worth it if only for the episode with Jabberjaw, the Funky Phantom, Captain Caveman and Speed Buggy.

Thus defeating the entire point. The whole idea of this show was to take the Looney Tunes and do something new with them, put them in a place that they haven't been before. Having the show with original characters would only make it even less appealing (to most people) tbh.

Why? If it had original characters, would you really say "man this would be better if it had Looney Tunes!"? The characters don't even act like themselves, so there's really no place for the Looney Tunes in the show.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting, I'm sort of like a cartoon enthusiast, and nothing beats the 1940-era.

How so? So far I haven't seen anything too out of character for them other than the new Gossammer (which I don't mind).

Time to stop living in the past and get over it. Yeah, the original LT was good, but like I said, they wanted to try something new. They didn't want to rehash the same formula from the 40s because they wanted to have fun with it, rather than try to mimic the earlier work.
I also like the CG Roadrunner shorts. Funny, though of course not nearly as smooth CG as the ones we get in theaters.

Yeah, the forties were indeed a fantastic time for the Looney Tunes, but fact of the matter is, they're long behind us now, and if you really love the characters, you should be happy people remember them fondly enough to want to experiment with them, let them grow, evolve, expand, mutate, and reach new audiences in different ways. Even if you're a Captain Nostalgia and cartoon expert like us, you gotta learn to let things move forward, try new things, and embrace the evolution.
As for Regular Show, I liked the 'Punchies of Death' episode.

Same here. Mainly Tom and Jerry, though. That show was amazing.
Somewhat off-topic, but I wonder why the media hasn't turned to making a live-action Tom and Jerry yet. You'd think they'd revitalize that instead of Yogi Bear, which in my opinion was a horribly dull show.
