Cranky's Cabin

If you go to the first Cranky's Cabin on Donkey Kong Country, he will tell you to take a leap of faith to find Winky in Barrel Cannon Canyon. I wasted many a life trying to find him. Does anyone know what he is talking about?:dk

Winky is the frog. He has the ability to jump on bees without getting hurt.

I have no idea where he is though.

My guess is that Cranky is referring to the Winky token that's stashed under one of the platforms. There's a hidden platform below it (I think) which allows you jump up to the token, and in order to reach the platform, you have to take a leap of faith, 'cause you can't see it from the normal level path.

I love those fake-pits that aren't actually pits. Sometimes I'd find myslef just jumping into one. I guess you could call those my 'leaps of faith'

Did anyone know that if you get to the Winky platform that there is a huge golden statue of him that doubles your Winky coins?

Those exist in all of the animal friend bonuses. You just have to seek them out ;)

About those golden statues, I never found the Enguarde one...
I did find some secret passages that lead to rooms with enguarde tokens in number formations, like 2, 3, 4, etc. That always puzzled me.

The Enguarde one Gold statue icon was hidden in the middle (or bottom) of that bonus level, you'd push down and go through what looked like a solid wall to find it.

Really? In Barrel Cannon Canyon? I don't recall him ever being there, if I'm thinking of the correct level... (this is the last level before the boss in the first world, right?) Could you explain where he is?

Well, in the gbc version I found winky in that level, I think you had to jump all the way to the left when possible, and instead of dying if your timing and jump where right you'd find solid ground with an entrance to the bonus area.
