This year's E3 was a shining one, with many great things from all three giants. Microsoft had a clip from the latest in the exciting Halo series, Sony had a multitude of visually-spectacular games on it's PS3, and Nintendo's Wii finally made a proper entrance. But what games grabbed your attention the most? In this topic I want you to give your top 5!
Honorary Mention: Spore (PC)
As a Sims addict, Will Wright's creations never cease to amaze me, and this time's no different. In his latest piece of work, the team at Maxis has created a more unique type of life-simulation. In Spore, you get to create creatures and watch them evolve from mere cellular blobs all the way to galatic superbeings. It doesn't sound like it'd be a lot of fun, but it's really quite amazing to see it. If it's anything like the Sims or Sim City, you can be assured that this is one title to look out for!
#5: Super Paper Mario (GameCube)
In the back of my mind I thought we'd seen the last of Paper Mario, at least for another year or too, but the announcement of this game really surprised me! I love the Paper Mario games! The story, the gameplay, the music... It's all been just so good! In fact, I'd say the Paper Mario series is really up there with Nintendo's greatest titles. But yet there's another twist! This time around it appears to blend RPG elements into a sidescroller. And I sure do like my sidescrolling games! I can't wait to see more from this title.
#4: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube / Wii)
Initially I was not a Zelda fan. It wasn't until the Wind Waker came out that I really picked up on the series. And when I finally finished, I would say that I was the most impressed I've been with a game in a very long time. Everything about it was brilliantly done in my opinion. It's entertaining magic has not been rivaled since, for myself, and that's why I look forward so much to Twilight Princess.
#3: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Some are saying that this game is simply Super Mario Sunshine redone. I think otherwise, and while Mario isn't taking fashion into his more traditional roots, I think Nintendo can deliver the gold. Who knows, but with Wii's new idea of gameplay this could very well be the way for future platformers. We'll have to see when it comes out. But for now, Super Mario Galaxy looks intriguing.
#2: Yoshi's Island 2 (DS)
Maybe you are think I'm nuts putting this at number two, especially when we haven't seen much at all of this game yet, but for me this game was easily the winner at E3. Eleven years ago this game was simply put, a masterpiece to me. It still is. I might even go so far as to say this was the best 2D platformer ever. But when you hear me make statements like that you can understand why I'm so excited about this title!
#1: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
It appears I jumped the gun when I made this topic, but after seeing the trailer for SSBB I was wowed. I remember when I first saw the trailer to Melee I was blown away. Now, a few years later that same feeling of excitement came back! With the appearance of Snake and the other anticipated newcomers and some other surprises this game can't get here fast enough!
