View Full Version : Minecraft XBLA Delayed to Spring 2012

For those of you, like me, who have an Xbox 360 and are looking forward to getting Minecraft XBLA soon, prepare to be disappointed. (http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/88309/minecraft-xbla-delayed-to-spring-2012-playable-at-minecon/)

On the positive side, however, it's not too much of a delay. It was also announced yesterday that the upcoming release of Minecraft will only be available for Xbox 360, not PS3, despite some rumors.

Discuss.

I don't mind the delay too much seeing as I have the PC version, but I may even pick up the 360 version as well, depending on how it goes over and plays and such.

It's not on PS3 because Sony chose to put it on their handheld, the Xperia Play.

Also, I still don't get why you're getting the Xbox version when you have a PC that can run Minecraft perfectly fine.

sub-720p 30 fps minecraft lol
I'll never understand the appeal of something that runs over 30 FPS. You can only see a max (or near) 30 FPS, so anything more is a waste IMO. Sure, it's impressive to say "I can run this at xxx FPS", but you literally don't see those 100-something extra frames, so what's the point?

Also where did it say that it would be sub 720p? Keep in mind that Battlefield 3 is running at 702p, and with the HD texture install it still looks amazing.

tl;dr you're complaining about things that really have no effect on anything.

If it works on the Xperia Play it sure as hell works on the Xbox 360.

I was joking, but why must you underestimate the important of these things?

How can you NOT see the difference between 30 fps and say, something like 60 fps :C... Ever play TF2? It's quite noticeable when you go from around 60-90 fps down to around 30-35, especially in firefights. It's no longer smooth, but visibly choppy.

I know more people through Xbox Live, so more people I know will probably have the XBLA version versus the PC version.

And I'm sure the Xbox version will run fine compared to the PC version.

inb4 BUT THE PC VERSION WILL HAVE MODS!

do you seriously not understand me because that was prett cut and dry

You cannot see anything more than 30FPS. Standard television, regardless of standard definition or 1020p, all runs at (I believe) 29.97 FPS. And if you think standard television is choppy, then lol at you good sir.

Also the importance of 720p in a game that's meant to look blocky and 16-bit is pretty hilarious.

@Chilli: I play TF2 a ton. My computer isn't a beast, but I can constantly play at 30-50 FPS. It rarely, if ever, drops below 20. I only see choppyness at 20FPS or less. 30 is always smooth.

You'd actually be really surprised what a big part of Minecraft mods can be. But if you can survive without them, fine.

SOME people are able to see higher then 30 images/sec

Its not fps because we dont see rendered frames, we see images.

It is effected by our own body. Someone hyped on caffeine will see more, while someone who is sleepy will see less. It also has to do with eyesight.

But, most people can't see higher then 30 images/sec. I think I read somewhere that some people can see ~50. Its all different

Also, compared to SD and HD, it isn't fps, it is how much data is shown per second. An 1080p image will have more data then a 480p image. It is more noticeable on larger screens.

Motion blur is used in standard television so that films and movies won't look choppy at the low frames per seconds they're shot at. It's not practical for most games to use that level of motion blur in real time so they require high frame rates to look decent.

If nobody can see higher than 30 fps, why do some game developers push for 60 fps? You should give them this important information.

First, there are mods in which you can make Minecraft as HD or have as many FPS you want.

Second, it's Minecraft so it doesn't even matter.

This isn't a concern with the PC version, read the thread lol

I guess I shouldn't say anything. After all, I've never actually played Minecraft, I've only seen videos. :p

Motion blur isn't actually "used" in television so much as it's a natural consequence of filming. That said your point is still valid and correct.

I've never used a mod for it in my life. I've considered TMI, but now that there's creative mode, it's sort of useless.

You're 100% wrong. Simple as that. Playing a game like Counterstrike where the FPS is 30, and then playing it where it's 60, you can absolutely see, as well as *feel* the difference in mouse movement. You can even see the difference between 60 and 120, (assuming you have a monitor that can support refresh rates of up to 120). Getting higher than that starts making the effect negligible, but saying that you can't see higher than 30? Nonsense.

I absolutely cannot stand to play a game at 30FPS, because it feels and looks like complete garbage. 45 is my absolute minimum, and 60 my preferred setting. I don't have a 120hz monitor, but my brother does, and I can absolutely see the difference between his monitor and my monitor. Play a PC game like Counterstrike (edit) or Team Fortress 2 (/edit), set your fps_limit to 30, look around, play a bit, then set it to 60 and do the same thing and then tell me there is no difference. If you did, you'd be lying through your teeth. :)
