Why did they do this?!
ex: "Hey there spunky!"
"Hey there Freddy!"
"Lets dance and sing on pinata island and find frends!"
"Ok! I have and even better idea!"
"Whats that?"
"Lets sing the friendship song!"
"La La Pinata friendship song
we could sing it all day long
La la la la Pinata song
Lets. Be. Friends!
[Childish giggles here]"That was fun!"
"Yeah!"
or it'd be like pokemon...It's very self explanitory
Rare and 4kids should die for this! Big N already killed my love for Viewtiful Joe with their show. *shudders* If you didn't know already then you should now. Truth hurts...alot

Actually, Viva Piñata was designed to be a game + TV + merchandising line from the very beginning. This is especially evident in the fact that each episode of the show will tell you how to do something special in the game.

ohhhh...So Viva Pinata was a sell out at the very start? Wow Rares lossing their touch for non-kid gamers. But if I had a son I'd keep him far far away from that sellout title. Wow I always ignored VP until now and realized this is a good idea. Kids see the show. they force their parents to buy them a 360, they get and play the game. They buy the 20$ a piece plushies and action figures. The children get their way and the parents end up broke. Let this be a message to all parents. DON'T LET YOUR KIDS WIN! I learned somthing today and so did you. :)

I'll admit, the entire idea of Viva Pinata never interested me much from the beginning. But I knew there was going to be a show to go along with it, and while I'll likely never get the game (I'm only going to rent a 360 for Banjo-Kazooie 3 if it ever comes out), I'm going to have to watch an episode or two of the show when it comes out. I mean, just to see what it's like! It'll probably be laughably lame, but I just have to see for myself.

And look at it this way. While this whole VP thing may be a marketing trap for spoiled little kids, at least Rare and Microsoft are working together to improve the image of the 360, by making it seem more kid-friendly and less of a console for teenage guys who want to blow things up. If the Viva Pinata series is successful, it could seriously do a lot for Xbox's "family image." And that means, when Rare does want to produce a game which is enjoyable for all ages, such as the Banjo series, they may have a bigger base of young gamers, and a wider acceptance for that type of thing among Xbox owners.

So you see, I really do believe Rare knows what they're doing with this. Even if it doesn't interest me personally, I'm waiting to see what will come of this series. Either it'll be a huge success, or a... big flop.

I learned something today, but it wasn't anything you mentioned in your post.

1) Viva Piñata is not a "sell out" franchise. It just looks like they're trying to launch the game and the show at the same time, for a change. Y'know, something that never happened with game-based TV shows - Pokémon, Viewtiful Joe, Sonic X, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog, the Super Mario Bros Super Show, the Mario cartoon, etc.

2) "non-kid gamers"? Last I checked, this is aimed at the younger crowd. Unless we've suddenly entered an alternate universe where the vast majority of 18+ gamers like buying games targeted at younger audiences, and Thrill Kill was brought out of limbo for the 6+ crowd.

3) Were my parents the only ones who ever said "no"? I guess so.

EDIT: Holy being beaten to the punch by PJ, Batman!

"PJ," not "pj," guys. ;)

My god what a waste of a game eh? Its pathetic, and do you know what people 10 years from now will think? Nothing of it because no one will care, because newer and better sequels or other games will come out. Besides, like princess said, its only a scheme by microsoft to force parents to buy a 360. They couldve made something like another banjo or conker game and actually PLEASED gamers, but no, their going towards the money and trying to get kids into a stupid new fad, that will last a month, and another fad will come along. After that all the memoribillia will sit in a closet for years, and the reruns of the show will be shown non-stop by stations that think anyone still gives a damn. It happened to pokemon, it happened to digimon, it happened to crazy bones, it happened to mighty beans, it happens to every single thing anyone thinks will be popular with kids, and if all goes well it will just fade away and we can all forget this mess, and rare can go on making games so bill gates can shove some more money down a male prostitutes pants THANK YOU, GOOD NIGHT! ahh. i love ranting...

God forbid a company tries to introduce a new franchise. Funny how you guys had no problem with Rare introducing the Banjo franchise...and you apparently have no problem with Chris Seavor saying that, if there's another Conker game, it will focus more on the Live & Reloaded multiplayer characters than Conker.

GoldenEye (GoldenEye!) has taken a backseat due to the popularity of modern shooters. So of course VP will be forgotten once something newer comes along - that's just the way it is. But you're forgetting one thing: right now, there are no E-rated games (not counting E10 games) on the 360, other than a dozen sports titles and most of the Live Arcade games. Unless the ESRB takes serious offense at being able to lambaste brightly-colored piñata (piñatas?) with a shovel, this game will get an E rating. E rating = family-oriented gaming = filling the "family" gap on the 360.

That's all this game is about, really: broadening the selection of games on the 360 - and introducing something fresh - so that it "doesn't just have shooters and sports games," like so many of the uninformed masses claim. And I will proudly tell you that I reserved my copy of the game at the local EBGames...

...even though Splinter Cell: Double Agent will probably be the hotter-selling game in early September.

but banjo has shooter and sports games. And viva piniata is...well, its like pokemon: lame. Although if rare makes a banjo game for the 360 or ds i wont really care.

I think you guys are overreacting on the whole "marketing trap" thing, how this and the TV show will sucker parents into buying a 360 for their spoiled brats. I think it'll be the other way around... kids who already have the game will hear about the show and wonder what it's about. It's like those of us who played GoldenEye and then bought the movie to see how faithful the adaptation was. If anything, the game is a big advertisement for the show.

Secondly, there are many other titles more likely to rope spoiled kids in than Viva Piñata. To single out Viva Piñata as the one thing that will make kids demand an Xbox 360 from their parents... that's being a bit narrow minded. I'd almost guess this was more of a Rare-bashing topic than anything ;)

so bill gates can shove some more money down a male prostitutes pants

Why is it that, ultimately, every anti-Microsoft rant comes down to Bill Gates being evil? That's hardly a valid point anymore. It's almost cliché. "OMG Microsoft is doing something I don't like, Bill Gates must die!". It's a childish point to make.

Besides, Steve Ballmer is the one who's evil. You can't tell me that looking into his eyes isn't like looking into the soul of the devil himself:

I mean, c'mon ;)

Hey now...! *starts to say something about the Pokemon part, then stops herself before she goes off on a rant that has nothing to do with the subject at hand*

But anyway, listen. I think the Viva Pinata show does look pretty lame, but perhaps that's just because the website described it as "wacky, zany, anything-can-happen" twice in one sentence. But y'know what, you can't judge a game from a show that goes along with it. The game may be addicting and fun. And who knows- while I doubt it, the show might even be enjoyable. The point is, don't be so quick to judge things before they come out. Rare and Microsoft might be onto something with this franchise, or it may just turn out to be something that's quickly shoved aside and forgotten. Who knows? Let's wait and see before we judge, alright? Some people think Banjo-Kazooie is lame. Obviously, I'm not one of those people, and neither is anyone else here. But let's not throw our insults around.

People are always saying things like “I don’t like this band anymore, they’re too commercial” etc. Personally I don’t care about any of that, if I like a song or a game then that’s all there is to it.

I’m gunna see what happens when Viva Piñata actually comes out, then I can make up my mind. I think it looks quite interesting, and I love the name Horstashio.

Alright I've gotton alot of bad messages from this and I'd like to redo this in a less evil sounding form. Ok Rare probably neeced some spare cash in their pockets and saw children as a very valuable persuit. So they worked with 4kids to make a tv show. They also decided to make toys for it. That seems like a sellout thing to do for me. BUT! In the end game companies want to make $$$ and I respect Rare for that. There is one problem with this though. Not many kids have a 360. And the viewtiful Joe TV show is really hated by me but if you have not seen it you can buy the DVD season one online. I'll post a video as soon as a can.

EDIT: Sorry it sounded very ranty we all have had a time that we wish we could've said somthing we didn't and I apoligise. I was just suprised about this and it hit me like a bolder and I was outraged at the time. Also I'll still probably end up buying the Rare game. Very sorry for all this. Very Very sorry. :(

Let's just wait, and see. It could end up better than VJ (Viewtiful Joe), or worse. I liked the old Mario cartoons, and the Zelda ones. They were aired on Yahooligans.com.

Hey, don't worry about it. We all get those moments when something angers us, and we just want to go off on a rant. It's ok.

What I want to know, is this whole thing Rare's idea? Or was it Microsoft and 4kids working together on a Viva Pinata series, and they asked Rare to make the actual game?

How come nobody bashed Rare for making Mickey Speedway USA?
After all, it was a game based off a cartoon series, and it's only point was to make money on the younger audiences. It was a good game, but pretty disapointing imo.

Besides, Nintendo is a master when it comes to leeching money from kids. If you can't see this for yourself, then I won't even waste my time posting some examples here.
OMG GOTTA CATCH'EM ALL!!!

Btw, the Mario cartoons were kinda good, actually ("Hey paisanos! It's the Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" ^_^) but the Zelda one was just embarassing.
