I personally think that this Eggman and "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" Eggman are tied for "WORST EGGMAN EVER."
Some people, however, don't seem ot think so.

This topic on SonicStadium is full of people PRAISING the new Eggman. Ugh. I feel like I need a bath now after reading people say "IT'S BETTER THAN DA OLDER DESIGNS."
Seriously. SlimFast, WeightWatchers, whatever they put him on, IT'S WRONG.
HE LOOKS UGLY AND BAD.
HE IS NO LONGER OAFISHLY FAT AND GOOFY LOOKING.
THAT WAS BASICALLY HIS WHOLE CHARACTER FROM SONIC ADVENTURE AND ONWARD.
THEY EVEN REMOVED HIS GOGGLES. AAAAAAAH. WTF.
At least his change from 2D to 3D wasn't TERRIBLE.
People have also tried to compare it to Sonic's "dramtic change" from 1999. The hell? Dramatic change? They made him taller, added a couple more spikes on his back, and gave him green eyes. That's it. Nothing like this atrocity.
Anyway, in this topic we discuss how bad the new Eggman is.

So..wait, back up, he's not called Robotnik anymore? o-O
I kid I kid.
Doesn't Shadow drive a 4*4 in the new Sonic title now? Oh....Sega..
At least the Wii Sonic shows some promise.

No hotlinking =__=
Anyway, seein the images people posted on that forum, I have to say it's not at all a HORRIBLE change, It could have been better, cuz It has lost some of the old robotnick essence, but I really don't dislike it that much.

I dunno, it depends where you go. I've seen quite a bit of dislike for the new design on a few other forums.

...
How can you say that?
How?
Sigh. It IS horrible. It's the WORST thing they could have done. The Eggman that everybody is most familiar and comfortable with (even those like me, who have been playing since the Genesis days) has been skinnified and creepified and uglified.
It's WRONG.
W-R-O-N-G. WRONG.
And he's missing the goggles! The goggles were his trademark from SA onward because he always had them on his head, but only wore them ONCE for ten seconds.
May I say, since it is quite appropriate in this context, THE GOGGLES! THEY DO NOTHING!
How can they do anything since they're gone?!
OK, now I'm kind of decending into madness...
The new design still sucks though.

I must say, he looks hideous. He looks like a decrepit old man, maybe they are trying to pull a MGS4 move here and make him age and become weaker, leading to a new main villlain? Anyone else think of this?

I never liked the new name that much, either. Eggman.. just sounds ridiculous.

He looks wrong now. I don't like it but I don't really care that much. I rarely play Sonic games anymore because they just aren't as good as the origianls were, plus they keep introducing new characters all the time. Kind of like Pokémon.

I won't say he looks bad, but he certainly doesn't look very egg-shaped now. But I see where people are coming from. That's like making Wario taller and skinnier! ;)

no, thats where you are wrong
his real name was ovi kintobor but when he tripped over the wire whilst holding the rotten egg, he merged and became ivo robotnik
he is called eggman bacause he has an obsession with eggs, like when he says eggselent etc.
any new design is appalling to me, there was only one design, the StC design. i collected every single one, then they stoped it and used the sega character designs instead.

That's the Fleetway theory on him.
The Japanese Game theory is that hiss name was Eggman and always was. The American SEGA would always switch the name around to Robotnik (ala, SatAM and AoSTH) Then around SA/Dreamcast period, they just let Eggman stick with him. Eggman, in the American sense is his nickname, with is real name being Ivo Robotnik. Eggman or Robotnik, he still looks kickass.

I was always curious about the name change how they just kinda sprung it up on American audiences.
Sonic Adventure's dialog was the worst concerning it though...
"Look! It's Dr. Robotnik!"
"That's right, Tails! It is I, Dr. Eggman!"
ME: WTF?! 0_o

Actually he's named Eggman because that's what his name was originally in Japan, for some reason they used the name Robotnik everywhere outside of Japan until recently, when they decided to use Eggman universaly.
Although the reason King said for why he's called Eggman might be true, we can't really tell :)

Theories from comics (Archie, Fleetway, whatever) don't count. Sorry.

Hakey....DOUBLE POSTED?
Well, I eprsonally think that Sega made a big mistake giving Eggman liposuction. I mean, it was cool when he was egg-shaped?

Yeah, making him slim all of sudden kind of ruins his personality.
=(
But anyway, whatever you call him, you're talking about the same person; because SEGA merged both names in Sonic Adventure 1.
And just for clarification, his first name was Robotnick, according to the Sonic 1 american manual. The japanese manual renamed him Eggman.
The american version of Sonic1 came first. IT'S A FACT! LOOK IT UP ON GOOGLE! LOOK IT UP!

There are a few things I want to wait for, before I pass judgement one way or another on this Eggman. (Grr, I still hate not typing Robotnik...)
1. Character: Will he take on the same role he has for the past few years, evil, then teaming up with the good guys, or just neutral in general.
2. Voice: Many people have complained about Mike Pollock, and I'm no fan either, but he does show promise. A little tweak here, a little grunt there, and Eggman might just sound like he's supposed to.
3. Looks: My biggest "thing" as it were with the new Robotnik...Grrr...Eggman is the weight thing. He needs to be fatter! Think about it? When, except for SA2 and a single Game-Gear title has Eggman done anything but ride around in a robot or hovercraft? He should not look that skinny.

In Sonic 2, on the death-egg level, when you beat mecha sonic, it blows up, then the little barrier thing that is guarding eggman disapperes. when he realizes you are like 6 inches away from him, eggman starts to flee and no matter how fast you run he always stays ahead of you then he jumps into his robot and flies around trying to crush you. as for eggman's weight, i don't think they will keep making him lose so much weight that he will be skinny. Sega probably made him lose so much weight cause it would add realism to the game since no one is really shaped like an egg, this would be realism.

Uh, the Sonic games have never been about realism.
