View Full Version : Why do people hate Michael Cera?

I've never been able to understand. Was there some sort of scandal he was involved in that I wasn't aware of?

People typically hate when people get rich/famous undeservingly. A sort of injustice. Justin beiber is overwhelmingly rich and famous, despite not writing his music, and his music overall being really awful. Thus people hate him. Cera has this problem. He is the same role in every single movie he's in and while sure he does a decent job, it's because that's him acting as the type of person he is, hardly 'acting' and yet he was in everything for a little while, hollywood jumped on the bandwagon of making a movie based around a character like him, or squeezing him into movies that had no business having him as a character in them (i think year one is the one people complained to me the most about).
I mean obviously I can't speak for everyone, but this is surely where a lot of it does come from

He's just been type-cast as that awkward teen character, and it's a shame people hate him for that, because that's something I always kind of admired, because it was nice to see someone who was as awkward as me in films.

I think people are jealous because he practically gets to be himself in movies. Working hard, or hardly working, eh?

he always plays the same character. the awkward teenager gets very annoying after seeing it so many times.

I don't necessarily hate him because he plays the same character in every movie, because plenty of people get typecast into certain roles and only ever play that one role.
I hate him because that one character he plays is annoying as shit

I like him. I don't know why anyone would be against him, honestly.

You hate him as a person because a character that he didn't create is annoying?

My friends and I all enjoy his awkwardness. He brings joy to our hearts because of how charmingly awkward he is.

Someone's clearly never seen Scott Pilgrim.
Or Arrested Development.

So people hate him because he's good at playing a character? That's like saying you hate someone for being good at a certain game.
Why not set the hate towards the writers? For developing the same old "Michael-Cera-type" characters for him?
Personally, I like Cera. But I don't speak for all moviegoers.

I like Michael Cera, but I can see where the hate comes from.
The only Michael Cera film I remember watching was Scott Pilgrim (and maybe superbad, but I'm not entirely sure he's in that...)
And I agree with DB. I would love to slap his face, it just looks way too much fun not to!

ITT: People are butthurt that their lives are being portrayed too realistically by Michael Cera.

Let's face it: the real reason guys hate him is because he's a twerpy nerdy dude and all the ladies love him.
There, I said it. Let the pain out and the healing begin.

I'm actually starting to lean more "Pez is right" on this one.

I think the word "hate" is used far to liberally these days. Here. (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=define%3Ahate) I think if you feel intense or passionate emotions for someone you've never met before (which is what the internet does best) then you seriously need to take a look at yourself. I think Michael Cera's awkward teenage character was great in Superbad... and that's about it. Scott Pilgrim was great but not because of Cera. I'm not really into his work but I can't hate the guy.

A lot of people can relate to that kid. He plays his parts vedy naturally and truly. So what if he has similar roles, there are a lot of roles that call for the persona.
I'm not really into his work but I can't hate the guy.

Who's Michael Cera?
And typecasting is a bitch. I'm usually shoved into the bitchy, mean, no nonsense roles. This happened three times in a row, but the third one I sort of flipped it around by using a different voice. o-O

Or Arrested Development.
Didn't like Scott Pilgrim very much, but I (as should everyone) love Arrested Development. Just not because of Michael Cera.
You hate him as a person because a character that he didn't create is annoying?
No, I don't hate him as a person because I've never met him as a person and I don't know him as a person. I hyperbolicly hate him in the same way I hate every other celebrity I've never met but hate.

No really, no, although I only got into Arrested Development after already forming an opinion on Cera so I'm most likely biased.

That sounds more like an issue with jealousy or envy then.

This.
Also, Cera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Cera).
Anyway, I agree with the typecasting comment. I usually got stuck with the side, lax'd, chill "dude" type characters.
