The well-known MMO space game EVE Online is getting an interesting feature soon.
The company CCP is making another game entitled DUST 514, exclusively (for now) for the PS3. The game takes place in the same universe and the same time as EVE does. You know what that means?
That means that PC EVE players will be able to directly control the going-ons inside and outside of the FPS. For instance - let's say you're a PS3 player and you want a shiny new sniper. You submit the order for it and pay some in-game currency. The application is then sent out into EVE, where EVE players will get the materials to make it. Kinda cool, but take a look at this.

Mid fight, a DUST player can have the ability to request assistance in the form of orbital strikes. Guess who launches the orbital strikes? The EVE players. On a different console.
The PC player can literally launch an orbital strike on the planet as the battle takes place. The shells will land and kill other players in the PS3 game. Never before have two games been so seamlessly combined into one economy and battlefield.

I'll probably start up EVE when they remake the smuggling system, which isn't too far away I am led to believe.
But Dust looks amazing from a technical standpoint.

I tried playing Eve. I thought ... no, no I can't make a witty comment. It's just too damn complicated!

EvE = yawnzzzz... It's cool to hear about the stories of deception and corruption that take place in that game world but the actual tedium of the gameplay puts most people to sleep.
I've been watching this game since it was first announced with some interest, certainly it sounds like it will be an impressive technical feat if they pull it off successfully but how the social aspect will come together is unpredictable.
My initial reaction was to wonder why the hell they have this game, linked to a PC exclusive MMO, pitted for the PS3. Then I realised that's what would make it all the more interesting, the players of Dust514 are meant to be nameless grunts for hire by the EvE players and this divide keeps the relationship much more buisness-like.
The main barrier to overcome would be to make the Dust 514 soldiers a very useful asset for EvE players.
I believe the online beta (for EvE players only at the moment?) has started recently. This is one of those few games that I'm going to try and get into as early as possible.

In before class system. Still quite awesome though. The master race gets to shoot down inferior races lulz.

Dust will have a class system, but you can customize it any way you want. If you want your scout to carry a minigun, go right ahead.

No I mean like the people on the PC being superior to the PS3 players. As in Upper class/lower class, not the generic 'Sniper class' 'Prick class' etc.

Ah, my mistake. Considering PC players need to utilize Dust players to control planets and gain a more firm grasp on the economy, they shouldn't pull a whole "you're the bitch" card. I sure wouldn't work for a corporation that did that.

The moment you "go to work" playing in a virtual world is the day you've already been dead socially.

I'd like to be able to use PS3 players as pawns for my own interests though. That would make gaming more fun.

Using any other players as pawns make it more fun.
I remember using noobs in runescape to do manual labor for me, to profit off of it.
I also being a noob used for manual labor =3

You guys have no idea how much of a hardon I get at the idea of being somebody's tool of war and fighting to get paid. There's always been this system of tiers you know?
PS3 only<PC only<Both - Just to simplify it
I, for one, welcome my new PC overlords.

If you could connect the N64 version to the XBLA version and fight people through that, you might get close.
