View Full Version : PS3 game cost

Whoever has Sony just announced that the games will cost $60 to $100! This made me realise that if you want a PS3, and a good game, it will cost $700 plus tax! With that money you could get the Xbox 360, Wii and a game for both systems (and those of you who dont own a 360, a game is built into it) and have $30 to $50 left over. I think Sony is starting to get ignorant, and is thinking that just because they won the last console war that everyone will buy the PS3.

I've looked up a few articles, and it certainly seems prices will be at least $59.99 which is likely for premium quality games.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think Sony could get away with higher priced games anyway. If game prices go up, it's all across the board. Sure, Sony are ignorant, and they seem to think everyone has deep pockets... but I think games will still be affordable for now ;)

What I'm thinking, is that it's all psychological; if you have to pay more money for a game/console, it's obviously better, right? Wrong! It's just the same as the Wii and 360. However, I'm going to go out and buy the better console, which is obviously costly. I don't want to be done one better by my friends, eh? It's some marketing ploy...
It's a shame that they think this way...I won't be purchasing a PS3 anytime soon!

Hah. And to think, if the PS3 is as unreliable and sh*tty as the PS2 was, oh man. All hell would break loose.

It'll be like paying £30 - £40 for software!
...wait.

Well just like the PS2, I'll wait for the PS3's price to go down before i buy it. If the prices are that high, then the ps3 must be some powerful, durable piece of software then. And if the games will be 50-100 U.S. dollars then the games should be better than any of the other games and i'm talking graphic and gameplay wise.

the only downfall is it may take years for the PS3's price to go down to a reasonable price for us middle class people. the PS2 came out like in 2001(not sure of the year) and here we are 6 years later and the price went down from $199 to $149 to $129. And this is for a new PS2, not a used one. So you see it may take years for the PS3's price to go down.:( The only way it would go down faster is if Sony's stock went up. then their prices would go down.

 OK Sony, now it's time to stop, this is ridiculous. No PS3 for me, it's final.

i wouldn't do that if i were you. just get one when prices go down. i would like the fact that i would get to play against you online.

What's gonna happen to me if I don't buy a PS3? ... cause I don't plan on buying one for a very, very, very loooooooooooong time. I'd like to be able to prepare for the situation ahead of me.

Sony's new price plan is no surprise to me, but I can't believe they don't realize how much they're hurting themselves. The average consumer wants afforable goods! Unless you've got a job and not many bills, it'll be difficult for a lot of people to get PS3 games. $59.99 is borderline reasonable for most people, but for any price beyond $60, it had better be one excellent game! ;)

Even if it lowered a hundred dollars, and you bought the lesser model, and then bout a game for it to play, it would cost $100. And considering the games get the same development time, the gameplay will be the same.

Price doesn't equal quality.
I imagine it would be quite a while till the PS3 lowers in price, because they are going to lose some big bucks with each PS3 made at first.
And, if it's like every other Sony product, it will be a flimsy piece of crap. Not to say it's bad spec-wise, but you get my point.
Plus, $50-100 games doesn't mean they'll all be the next Plaltinum Bestseller (or w/e Sony calls them). You'll still probably get the same mediocre FPS/RPG/Racing game that is just like EVERY OTHER GAME ALREADY OUT ON THE MARKET.
I'm really not trying to diss the PS3--oh wait, yes I am. :p I'm not paying $600 for flashy graphics.

Hell, I don't pay $40 for games. Seriously. I just do without and play my old games. But then again, I don't like 90% of the games out on the market today, so it really doesn't bother me that much. I'll stick to Mario and DoD. :D
Half-Life 2 is an exception. I want that game. Badly. And it's going to kill me to pay $40 for it. :(

Well Vatican you can always steal money from your friends. But that's not the right thing to do. Anyway this isn'y really killing me because I have been saving up for the past 3 years for stuff that's pretty expensive so it wont scare me as much. But knowing that Metal Gear Solid 4 could end up being $100 just makes me angry. But on the positives. You can watch Blu-ray movies for $500-400 cheaper! And on the other positives. Well there are none.

Price doesn't equal quality.
That would be true except for the PS2. When it first came out it could hardly play any DVDs. Now that they have the v12 model, it plays more DVDs than ever with no problem. but overall price does equal quality, maybe not with the games but with alot of other things.

Yeah so it took them 12 versions to get it right, how does that prove that price equals qualtiy? If anything it disproves it since you paid a higher price (at launch) for a less capable system.

Actually, most third-party 360 games retail for $60. One major exception was Gun, which retailed for $70, but people only played that for the Achievements anyway. The MSRP for first-party games is $50, I believe - I'll let you guys know if the price has gone up or down when I buy Viva Piñata.
But $100? I thought the N64 version of NBA Hangtime's $80 was high...

In this case, the lower the price, the better the system.

This is... just funny, I guess. I'd think that Sony would be smarter than this... I mean, unless they have one Hell of an underlying purpose, this is just stupidity! $60-$100 a game. Wow. The arrogance they possess to believe that they could get away with such bloated prices - they must really trust their fans' loyalty.
I'd just love to see them fall.

My friend, you have a Brazilian soul!
Well, except that you don't buy pirated products and don't always complain about the companies forgeting about your country even though you don't actually give a damn about them anyway. But you got close enough.
Well Vatican you can always steal money from your friends.Oh my! You've got a brazilian soul beating inside too!

I don't want to start a flame war or anything, but do you realise that Donkey Kong 64 cost about 80 bucks upon release, and both Rare & Nintendo were reaaally trusting their fans loaylty?
So, according to you guys, logically Nintendo and Rare are as evil as Sony.

Me too!
Harry Potter? Bah, I don't need it.
Though I still think that Ginny will die trying to save Harry from Voldemort on the seventh book. I'm sure that at least one Weasley will die, I just know it. And probably Harry will also die, because the mark on his forehead is a Horcrux. I don't care if that mark is sealed or not, he'll die, everybody knows he will.
Btw, I heard that Neville will become Hogwart's new Headmaster when he becomes an adult.

Yeah, not to mention a lot of SNES/Genesis titles were around that price back in the day too.
(Europe just gets screwed every time anyway, games are $60 - $80 as is)

Donkey Kong was 60$ at launch here. Do I live in a budget-friendly area, or something?
Also, didn't Donkey Kong come with an extra device? Aren't you selling it a little short? :p.

Yes. In fact, don't you happen to live in North America? :p
Just kidding.
Yup, I knew that comparing prices was a mistake. But I found that post way too funny to be edited. XD
Anyways, according to you DK64 still falls within the 60~80$ range.
Also, didn't Donkey Kong come with an extra device?About that device you are talking about, what was its use again? Improved graphics, you say?
And what's the purpose of Blu-ray? I believe it's mostly for graphics, among other things.
So, you got my point.
Now I'm dying to hear your opinion, Grey.
Grey Jinjo
2nd July 2006, 06:28 AM
You were paying the extra $20 for the device, though. It's not like you're paying the extra $20 per game. With DK, it was a one time thing. Pay $20, improved graphics/runspeed on every N64 game in the future.
Also, the freakin carts WERE too expensive. That's why PS1 shot out of no where and took over the market :p.
Also, you miscompared again. Rare didn't sell their cart for $80, Nintendo did. That's Nintendo being stupid/evil. We're blaming Sony here, not the developers.
