View Full Version : Favorite Musical Type

I know this is a very general topic, one I think has been done a hundred times before (if not on this specific forum, then on RWP's predecessors) but there are a good bit of new members now, so I didn't think doing it again would hurt =).
What kind of musical genre is everyone’s favorite? Some people like a large range of genres, I personally like just about anything that is not country, but the majority does have a "Favorite" genre that they prefer over all others. Which is yours?
NOTE: If you can't come to a decision within yourself over your favorite genre because you have more than one... .... just don't vote. :p

Yep, we did (http://www.rarewitchproject.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=219) do it here, because I remember that video game music debate I got into with Prof. X ;)

I would debate but after 5 mins if the other guy is still talking I'd just knock him out to win:p

Heh, yeah I know what you mean. I'm the same way. For example, my two favorite bands are Cradle Of Filth and The Goo Goo Dolls. If you look them up, you'll find them to be nearly complete opposites =P.

My favorite kind of music is gospel black metal.

Hm, I had a feeling that J-Pop (Japanese pop) wouldn't be there. :p Out of those listed, I'd choose Hard Rock.

As for Jazz and Disco...I didn't want to poll massed with options, and Jazz and Disco are heavily outdated, so besides classical which is more of a standard than those two, I just put the more modern types of music publicized.

Hmm...You wouldn't happen to be a fan of Cradle Of Filth would you? I just went to one of their concerts yesterday.

Most J-Pop is just slightly altered variations of American music. Many Japanese artists have even directly commented on this. Besides, the ones that aren't are close enough to American pop music or soft rock anyway...So I didn't feel a need to throw it in with the US Equivalents.

Now is a time when i could rant ~ but i am past that! I will simply ask a question :
Who's heard of evanescence?
Don't they rock?
Wait that's two ~ anyway at the moment they're my favourite band. I suppose they're soft rock (sometimes hard rock) with gothic vibes and a female lead singer called Amy Lee.
Go out and buy/ download their albums :).
~~and that is the final word ... maybe~~

Evanescence rules!! :D Their music is awesome... but still, they're not at the very top of my favorites list. My favorites are The Offspring, Linkin Park, and especially Utada Hikaru. Her music is really nice.

I like linkin Park but I don't have their album. I was going to buy it but Virgin had put it somewhere unfindable and the next time i was in there i found it but was broke.
:: sigh ::
Anyway have you got any of the albums?
(if you say yes expect to be PM'd every day with odd rantings :P
j/k)

Linkin Park - I don't have any of their albums...but then again I have a total of like, what, 8 CD's? I started getting in to music in the Napster era =P. I was going to go to their concert since I was going to be in the Philadelphia area around the 21st, but now I won't be around there until the 25th, so I don't think I'm going to go. I like their smooth blend of electronics and rock without killing either genre with the other. They have some truly genius mixes. On the other hand, Meteora did get a tad repetivive at points, but besides that this band gets no complaints from me.
Evanescence - Evanescence has some nice music, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they've got a "gothic" vibe. Sure, the girl dresses slightly gothic, but their music is far from even resembling gothic. I'd base them as normal rock. They are harder than the Goo Goo Dolls and lighter than Limp Bizkit and they are usually two good marker bands. Reguardless of where they are marked, they sound good, especially for having a female singer =). Usually females singers kill rock, except for in the instance of bands like Evanescence and Otep.

If you listen to their older songs it's a lot more "gothic" sounding, it's also a lot better than their new stuff, their new stuff just sounds to mainstream, but their version of Tourniquet was cool though.

Hahahaha, limp bizkit as a marker for heavy!

What about bands like Nightwish, Royal Anguish, and the Lacuna Coil?

I just thought the songs whisper, even in death and (sort of) my last breath and lies were slightly gothicy.

The earliest stuff i have of theirs is Origin but i know there was stuff before that. My friend downloaded for me becasue you can't actualy buy it anymore, i can't remember why but it must have been a damn good reason. Its such a great album. Better than fallen by far.

Yes, they are a perfect marker for Hard Rock. They are definitely harder than normal rock, and they are in no way metal, so I don't see the humor in their genre placement =P.

I was naming mainstream bands that people here might have actually...heard of.
