Hello:D! I've noticed that "Stop N' Swop" from "Banjo-Kazooie" seems to have captured the attention and imagination of the RWP community, myself included. However, "Donkey Kong 64" also has its share of mysteries that have not been thoroughly explored, as far as I could find. So what I offer here as a topic of discussion is the supposed "Scroll of Gameplay" that is briefly mentioned in the instruction manual (Cranky Kong says: "you may look far and wide, but you'll never find one of these much-needed items in the game" or something like that) and that damn Monkeyport pad in Creepy Castle which you just can't reach (it's close to the Banana Fairy, behind a glass wall). Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Since DK64 was, nay, is part of Rare's biggest gaming cover-up, I say these should be looked into pronto.

If I recall correctly, that monkeyport is reachable with Tiny. I think you teleport in there after monkeyport-ing from Diddy's bail (sp?) room. You know, the room where you need to jetpack thru the candles to lit'em on fire.

Haven't played DK64 in awhile...

I have an idea. For those of you with your N64's connected (I'll even connect mine), we should search around the Fungi Forest level for ANY traces at all of BK-related material.

Yeah, the Monkey-Port was reached with Tiny through Diddy's ball room. You had to shrink to race the car again. I should know, I have the official strategy guide.

The "Scroll of Gameplay" is a little joke by Cranky. See, ever since the original DKC came out, Cranky has always made curmudgeonly remarks about the "newfangled" games supposedly being inferior to the original DK. Therefore, a "Scroll of Gameplay" - which would probably tell how to design a good game - would, in Cranky's opinion, be a "much-needed" item in DK64, as he apparently believes DK64 is also inferior to the original DK.

Don't forget about the "secret level" Cranky hid in DK64, Great Girder Grapple! :O

...No, really, those are just jokes and shoudln't be taken seriously. Rare's DK manuals were always full of 'em, since Cranky always thought "new games" were so inferior to the great ones of old, which were based on gameplay and not flashy graphics. I wonder what he'd have to say if Rare ever got the chance to make a DK game for the Gamecube! (Wishful thinking indeed.) Man, I wish I knew where my DK64 instruction manual was, not to mention my ones for the DKC series. They're hilarious.

But anyway, DK64 DOES have a lot of serious mysteries, but they never get examined as closely as BK's. Because DK64 doesn't have deliberate mystery eggs or anything, despite its supposed link to Stop 'n Swop. :P

You mentioned the monkeyport in Creepy Castle. The port itself isn't the problem, but what about Tiny's pillar? That always bugged me, since I was very young. Across the hall from the monkeyport room, there's another room you can transport into, with nothing but a mysterious pillar and a banana balloon. That pillar is so conspicuous, and yet it apparently serves no purpose at all. It's just there. Why?

Not to mention the other great mysteries of this game... Diddy's extra glitch banana and the mystery arrows in Jungle Japes, why you can get into K. Rool's cockpit through a glitch with Chunky and if anything can be done in there, what's with those circular things with the Kongs' faces on them that K. Rool has behind him, why does the boss door opening music sound exactly like the Secrets fanfare from Banjo-Kazooie, what were they THINKING when they made Beaver Bother.... and more! Yeah, I was into DK64 secrets before I even knew what Banjo-Kazooie was, so that's how I got involved with the whole business. When the game first came out, and I was eight or nine, I was looking up glitches and going crazy with them. Just thinking about it gives me a nostalgia attack. I need to play DK64 again.

Ooh, you're right, and I nearly forgot that. That's always made me curious, in a similar fashion to another bit of DK64 strangeness which doesn't get enough love in comparison with the game's other more commonly queried oddities.

The oddity in question is a strange tree/mound in the overworld which seems very strange indeed. It seems like it's begging to be removed, revealing something behind. I've attached two shots of it, one close-up and another as a point of reference if you want to find it. I've never completed the game entirely, with all the banana medals, that is, so maybe its purpose is revealed in that special ending - but as far as I can tell it's just something which is a bit odd.

What's it all about then, hmm?

I beat K. Rool and unlocked all of the "cheats"...

Do I need to do anything else to "fully" beat the game?

Whoa, that mound thing is kinda weird. I never noticed that before. I'll have to go check it out sometime.

Well, if you want to see the secret ending, you need to beat it with all the golden bananas... and for the super-secret ending, you need to get EVERYTHING in the game.

I fully completed the game years ago, but my file got deleted somehow. It was really saddening when I turned it on one day and realized this, because that was my first file ever, and it took me AGES to get every little thing in DK64. All that hard work just disappeared. One day, I want to get 100% again. Whenever I run out of new games to play again, that's what I'll try to do.

Say, I'd never seen the strange mound, the glitch banana, or the mystery arrows. Would somebody please tell me where to find them? Anyway, I also noticed something strange Cranky says in the manual. I know that most of the things he says are pure (funny) garbage, but this one caught my eye: "Perhaps they've hidden a secret level away like a rare and hidden gem, hoping that nobody will ever find it." Very interesting indeed!

He's talking about the DK Arcade, which since it's a classic game and stars him, automatically makes it a "gem." See? :p

Hmm, the glitch banana. This one is kind of hard to explain, and it may take several tries to do, but it works. And it's really awesome and mysterious.

In Jungle Japes, take the #2 warp with Diddy. Hit the switch, climb the ramp, and enter the cave into the little mine area. As soon as you're inside, look around and see the huge overturned minecart thing on the far right near you. It should have some boxes leading up to the top. Climb the boxes and cross over to the other side of the platform. Stand RIGHT on the edge of the minecart (like where you're about to fall off), in the very middle of the edge, on the opposite side of where you climbed up. Got it? Now, you want to press the control stick forward very gently and slowly so that you fall off. RIGHT as you fall off, press the C up button so that you get a first-person view as you fall. If done correctly, you will have fallen through the floor. This might take several tries to get.

But if done right, you'll be in a black void under the ground. You can walk around here, and if you go underneath the little stream, you'll start swimming. But I would recommend just walking around. Anyway, while walking underground, make your way over to the other area of this mine, the room with the big conveyer belt machines. Once in this room, walk to your right. On the ground, there will be two yellow arrows (I think it's two, at least...) that seem to point you forward. Also, over here there will be a single red banana floating above you. Do a backflip to get it. If you follow where the arrows point, you will end up disappearing, dying, and starting over at the beginning of the level.

This is a WAY cool glitch, probably my favorite in the game, because it's just so freaky. It also invokes a lot of mysteries... why is there an extra banana, for instance? And what about the arrows? I got this glitch off another website not long after I got the game when it was first released years ago, so it's been around for a long time. I was always fascinated with DK64's glitches (like I said, this was the game that got me into gaming mysteries). But as fascinating as this glitch is, I've never really heard anyone else speak of it since then. I don't even remember where I first got it. But I've been doing it for years, and if I had an explanation for some of that weird stuff, I'd love it. But we may never know.

Have fun! :) I can also tell you numerous other glitches involving interesting places you can go through the wall and end up in a colored void. DK64 is full of things like that.

I would not call dk64 that much of a mysterie , but still very intresting
i remeber a few glitches i wont go into lots of details but ,
1. in creepy castel theres a room where you have too shoot a swicht with chunky by using the zoom move with you gun , but somehow if you go against the wall and zoom in , the whole room while start spinning round.very weird and hard to do.
2.in the multiplayer (long time since i played so cant remeber the name of the level)there is like a river of some sort and when your swimming in it put your first person view on and swim against the wall and enventually you will pass trough it , no extra banana or anything but , still fun too swim under the level

EDIT: wow i finally pulled off the glitch banana , took a few trys but I did do it , i now have 101 bananas with diddy....and what are those arrows pointing at?
after i got the banana and started running around some more my game froze up...i wonder if i can find any more glitches...
