I'm sure you've all heard of the game Dance Dance Revolution one way or the other. If not at an arcade, I'm sure someone has mentioned it too you or you've seen it on a show. If not it is a game that plays songs, and you hit 4 arrows as they overlap other arrows...in a dance type manner.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about its like this

www.flashflashrevolution.com

Except instead of just pressing buttons, you stomp them with your feet.

Has anyone PLAYED this game and can't lose their addiction to it?! I've played it up the mall with some friends a couple times, in which I sucked terribly bad, and realized that my addiction grew so out of control that my quarter supply could no longer feed the machine.

So instead my bill supply picked up DDR: Max 2 at the store, full with pad, for Playstation 2.

And although its killing my cardiovascular system and my legs I've committed over 7 hours straight in to it today with very few breaks in between. I can see this becoming a very painful addiction.

Anyone else have some sort of extreme craving for a round or two of this game everyday?

Well... I don't play DDR, but my friend Ciara loves it. I played it once... and sucked big time. :p She's great at it, though.

I LOVE this game. It one of three things that keep me sane.

Up, Down, Left, Left, Down-Left, Up-Down, Right, Left, Right-Left, Up, Up, Right, Up-Down, Down, Up-Right, Right, Up, Up.

That's the way to play the game.

Break it Down!

Not that dance game in the arcade! Oh god don't remind me of that... All my friends rock at it but i am undeniably crap at it.

But then again i do have real dancing, you should try it sometime, its amazingly realistic.:p

Is, if those are fourth notes the game keeps you sane. If they are 8th notes it drives you insane :p.

You'll never get me onto that. I know i'll go bad... and I'd just make myself look stupid (well, really it'd make myself look stupidER but still you don't know that do you;) )

Nope, I've never tried it, and I never will,
1) because I know I will suck, and
2) because I now know that it will suck up all of my coins like a vacuum, if it is as addictive as you say.

Yes, but thats why I bought it for PS2, so i don't have to pay for it every game. You CAN just get the actual thing. Of course, then it is 60$ for the game and 1 pad, but I was bound to pay out 60$ in quarters anyway, so it was a wise investment =P.

I love this game and I rule on it. o.o; The music is great...and it's really fun!!! I can do level 8 heavies! ^___^ My brother is even better than me though...he's on level 10 heavies. No better way to waste $10 than on DDR during the summer on the old boardwalk. :D

Has anyone seen any of those little things you might hook up to a PS2, and it look like the top of an arcade game? I think this is kind of on topic.

I'm going to tirade for a moment. Bare with me.

For Christmas I received DDR Extreme 2 as a gift. Unfortunately, it came with a soft pad that I had absolutely no use for. Because of this minor discrepancy, I returned the game to EB in exchange for a $60 gift card. I figured they would have a copy of the game by itself for $40, allowing me to purchase something else with the additional twenty. Instead it turns out they were pre-ordered all the way through until March.

%$@#B^#4.

All is well though as I picked up my copy last week. I just now unlocked PARANOiA Survivor Max through Mission Mode and was so ecstatic that I decided to post it even though I knew that many of you would have no idea what in the world I was rambling about.

So has anyone else grabbed a copy yet? Any thoughts on it or any of the other games for that matter since it's been awhile?

I'm not going to lie: I'm actually really mediocre when it comes to DDR. This is extremely bad, especially when most people say "Hey Matt, you're half Japanese. You must be awesome at DDR." This is not actually the case and often leads to awkward situations when I lose to...just about everyone.

I suppose with practice I could get better, but I've never really gotten to big into the craze to warrant it. DDR is still pretty awesome overall though...

Hi, I'm Banjo-Fella - and I'm a rhythm-dance game addict. There, I said it. Not that I want to recover, mind. :p

So, yes. I'm entirely addicted to Pump It Up, which is quite similar to DDR. I'd be hooked on the latter too, if we actually had a machine nearby.

Speaking of rhythmn games, I will try and make purcahse of Guitar Hero when it launches here.

Although it's $120...my wallet may start crying.

The only DDR game I've ever played is the Mario one for Gamecube. I got it for Christmas and started playing it, I wasn't that good to begin with but I've got better, on the harder difficulties it's fun but I don't play it much now. It's an alright game but I've never been a huge fan of dancing games.

I used to be HUGE into DDR and SM, but I quit playing SM because it directly contributed to a huge portion of my anger problems. As for DDR, I played it almost non-stop until my PS2 pad broke, and when I was going to get a new one, my PS2 broke, so I instead got Mario DDR, but it was extremely disappointing to me, so I've basically been DDR-free since before December or so of last year.

I'm actually fairly decent on the arcade/home version of DDR. But, this is just... odd. :p

I can't do it at all, actually. I'd rather do the actual one. :p

I never have played this game in public cause the machines are always full and besides, i'll look like an idiot. HOWEVER i do want to play it so i might get it on ps2, but i dont want that soft pad crap. they do have a metal one dont they?

on another note, Guitar hero f***ing rocks. I was playing it this morning and i finally ripped the solo for Cowboys From Hell by Pantera!! WOO-HOO! But I still cant play on hard mode T_T . Theres This new game called Beat Mania, where you do DJing stuff, the controller looks awesome and so does the game! I really want it but I dont know how much it costs, I havent had the time to check.

Beatmania is $64.99. I'll be getting it March 28th when it comes out here.

They have normal metal pads for $100-200. I wouldn't suggest these as they break easily and then you'll be out of a lot of cash. If you're REALLY serious about DDR, get Cobalt Flux pads for $300 at www.cobaltflux.com . If you're not that serious, I'd grab a $50 foam pad. They work better than you'd think.

Shortly after I discovered my addiction I asked for DDR MAX 2 for Christmas. Problem solved. :approve:

I went to play it last week, and realized that I had folded the pad wrong, so the sensors for the right and down arrows are off. So, I think I may invest in DDR Extreme 2 with the new pads. These new pads have raised arrows, with an inch of foam underneath, which allows for easier standard and heavy play. It's like $125 though.

But yeah, I can play some standard songs, and some of the harder light ones. I think there's a brick wall that you can hit where you physically can't get any better. Because, try as I do, I've gotten so tired that my knees go weak and I can barely walk. Seriously. I just cannot do better. My brother's the man though, he can do heavy.

Grey Jinjo
30th March 2006, 12:07 AM
It's mostly just getting use to DDR. Seriously.

When I was playing Standard I never thought I'd have the stamina to beat heavy. Eventually I got to the point where I could pass them.

At one point though, I couldn't even FINISH So Deep Heavy let alone Max 300 Heavy. Now when I finish So Deep Heavy it feels like I just played a song on light. I easily "A" Max 300 everytime and I don't get too winded either. The thing is, if I run or something my stamina is EXACTLY the same.

Concordantly, my one friend is in to cross country. He runs track, does long relays, etc. His stamina is incredible. However, the other day he played Light mode and started to sweat.

So what is the difference? You just get use to it. When you first start playing, you aren't as comfortable with the arrow patterns. It's a comfortability you don't even recognize, as it's only around 0.3 seconds off. Your mind makes little subconscious motions and your feet move at unnoticeably jerky measures. You stress over hitting each individual arrow more than you physically realize.

These tiny motions, like all tiny motions, make you more tired than the ACTUAL motions required in playing the game. Eventhough you don't notice you're changing anything, you're using enough force to tire you out.

Trust me. Play for awhile, and get more comfortable with the arrow patterns. You'll find yourself getting less exhausted eventhough nothing stamina/strength wise has really changed.

Hah, you guys should see some of the DDR freaks in my area. :D I live in a resort town, and just about every arcade has at least one DDR machine inside (usually DDR Extreme). I've seen people ace things like Max 300 and Cartoon Heroes on Heavy; it's really wild to watch them. Thing is, playing in public will attract a lot of attention from random people. That annoys the heck out of the players. :p

While we're talking about DDR, what is everyone's favorite song? My favorites are Sakura, R3, and Kakumei. I suck at the game, but I love the music!

I just got Beatmania yesterday, and it is pretty good. It's really hard though. The controller isn't exactly as good as it could have been. The record its sticky and doesn't move very easily at first, I actually turned the game of and spun it around until it became looser. When you scratch in one direction and keep moving the record, it one registers as one note so basically you just have to move it back and forth really fast to get any points, which is annoyingly dumb. I mean maybe it SHOULD only play one note but it could at least make it an extended note or something. And if you have to scratch fast for upwards of 3 notes and you try to do it in one direction rapidly, it won't register for some reason. And getting used to the keys is a bit hard due to fact that you have to hit keys that are on two seperate levels. The only other thing that bothers me is that most of the songs are mediocre and the Black colored keys represent BLUE notes, I mean come on Konami, just make the keys blue representing blue

Otherwise it rocks!

Yeah, I picked up Beatmania too. I think it's a bit rough to start off just because I don't know how to hold my hands. I beat a level 5 on normal Beatmania in the first hour, which isn't too bad. Unfortunately, I feel road blocked because I really don't know what to do. I need a "hands go here" diagram.

I can't figure that out either, I'm right handed and I don't know which side the record should go on. I currently have it on the left. I tried to assign all my fingers to a ceratin key, but it didn't work. So I just hit the keys with random fingers. I just figured out how to play Guitar Hero with my fingers in a good position on Hard mode so that I can hit the orange button, but I can NOT figure BeatMania out.
