If that is an accurate pre-poll of PS3 sales at all (which GameFAQs actually always has been, always), Sony is in for some pain.

Not to mention this! (http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2477) (Unless it's already been mentioned).
Every day I check the GameFAQs poll, and every day I see bads news for Sony. That's how I get myself up in the morning.

Well...of course. Everyone thought it would be awesome and that the new media format would be a good idea until they heard the price. Then people were like "Wtf. Screw you, Sony. I'm sticking with Wii/360/Wii60"
I'm one of those people. If the PS3 didn't cost so much, I would have probably gotten it after it's out. I mean, I'll still get it...though probably next generation. When you can get it used for a reasonable price.

PS3 will fail. i have no doubt about it, with the price Sony is asking, you must be crazy to get one.

I'll buy it eventually, as long as there are:
1. A resonable amount of games that I actually want.
2. A MUCH lower price.
3. Pre-owned games. They keep hinting at making pre-owned games an impossibilty, and if they do, I'll make a PS3 being purchased by me an impossiblity :).
and
4. As long as the games aren't ridiculously high as the rumoured $70-$100 that has been going on recently ;).

Sony will still have a phenomenal launch day... early adopters/technology whores, etc., which I think will hurt Sony even more. They'll look at their initial sales with the idea that they can only get better, but I don't think they will.
At the same time, Microsoft and Nintendo can cut their prices a lot faster. I think Sony will find it hard to compete.
Silly Blu-Ray.

I seriously don't see any games that matter at all for the system. I mean, they're all God Of War, Dynasty Warriors, MGS and FPS repeats. Which is getting really old now.
The Dynasty Warriors games (and games styled like it) have been boring since the begining, IMO.

Not to mention the fact that Sony (as of last week) still hasn't started PS3 manufacturing to get ready for their launch. I guess the higher price is to adjust for lower software sales as a fact that not as many people look to be buying the PS3. IE they won't be selling at a loss with every system with a price that high.

Sony knows that the prices are high but there isn't much they can do. And they also try to tell themselves and everyone else that is an "investment" and worth every penny. It's not. They know that and we all know that. They just know that it is better if they keep their mouths shut about it. Remember. Sony people aren't like, "It's perfect. No problems at all! What monnies? We love teh monnies!!!"

Don't underestimate Sony. Though I expect Sony to hurt, they still have a reasonable chance to keep a strong foothold in the industry. This generation just gives Nintendo and Microsoft the opportunity to seize power. ;) Everyone's rejoicing that this is the end of the line for Sony, but I have my doubts still...

Oh I don't think it will KILL Sony. If nothing else, a bunch of gamers (me for example) will probably buy the Playstation after it has a drastic price drop (or KH3 comes out ;)). But as far as their 3rd party support and overall performance goes, I say they are in for a beating.

If the ps3 price ever drops to $250.00 dollars i would get one , Or buy a pre owned ps3 for less. I like KH and the jak game series . How this will effect the game industry , Nintendo will be #1 with Wii , Microsoft #2 with 360 and Sony will be a distant 3rd with ps3 broke tooth ha ha.

At EB-Games they sell the PS3 for 699 € when it's released.
Honestly, i think, thats way too expensive. So I'll get a Wii :)

I know this is a repeat of everyone else, but I'm waiting for a serious price drop till I buy one. It's not easy for me to save up. I'm even having a hard time saving up for a Wii and I've been saving up all summer. :-/ If I do buy a PS3, it'll be for KH3 and Resident Evil 5.

I've gone over my lists of next-gen games that actually appeal to me. At the moment, they're about equal for Wii and PS3. And that means? Wii. I may be a whore, but I'm damn cheap. And intolerant. That means: No Big Prices, No Shady Jackasseries from the boys at Sony.
Come release time, I'm definitely going to make a "Best Of" thread between the two :D

I don't think it will kill sony either, after all they are a multimedia company with a relatively minor stake in gaming considering the overall scope of their product range. I think that they will lose enough of the support that their previous lines have won and they will either go to 3rd or more likely 2nd place overall.

I just thought of something. you can buy a core 360 and a wii for LESS than a ps3! $550 vs $600! (US prices) also not mentioning the fact that they "changed' their controller design a little while after nintendo announced the cool little motion sensitave thing. BUT the katamaris and the final fantases will get to me and i'll have to suck it up and get one...when the ps4 comes out.

Well I'm sure some people will buy the un-upgradeable $499 PS3 (not here though, since Sony in their infinite wisdom have decided not to release it here), although to be fair, it still has more features than the Premium 360)
Why would anyone get the core 360 anyway? >.<

Reading over that article provided by Mystery Man, I think it's safe to say that while a PS3 failure won't necessarily end Sony, they still have a lot riding on it XD

Than it's $50 more to get them both! I hope the new Katamari's and Final Fantasies go multi-platform or i'll explode! *starts countdown*
from my understanding a core 360 isn't online-ready...i think...I don't know

With the news of the European delay, it isn't looking as well as it did if Sony hoped to have a completely successful launch. The launch window from when the PlayStation 2 released and when the GameCube and Xbox released shows how important it is to launch before the rest of the competition. I believe the extra year the PS2 had, ultimately set back sales numbers for Nintendo and Microsoft. Although this isn't a full year we're talking about with the PS3, and it is just one different region, I imagine there will be some sort of reverberation in the effect it has on total sales and market share there.

I am pleasantly surprised that Nintendo won't be last to launch this gen however.

No one system is better than another. Figures and stats may show that one is selling better than another and it's more popular, but that doesn't mean it's better.
It's all based on people's opinions, the majority of people here like Nintendo and Microsoft better than Sony, the majority of the people at another forum might like Sony better than Nintendo, you can't change people's views on this because it's just their opinion.
Arguing with people about which console is better is completely pointless, because normally, once someone's mind is set on something, they won't change it without a good enough reason, and people can never think of a good enough reason to convince the person otherwise because they have their own opinions just as you do.
So you can try and try all you want to say "Sony is better, Nintendo sucks" all you want, but in the long run, nothing's going to change. So just let it go.

I'm only hoping that Nintendo doesn't mess up in this generation. It's their big chance of coming back or something.
About Sony failing to sell PS3s at launch, I really don't think so. Many people will buy it just because of Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4 and KillZone. All launch titles, all sure sells. No matter what's the price. ;)

To platinum, the only reason i'm going to buy the PS3 eventually when it's cheap enough (I mean who's going to pay THAT) is for Jak 4 and KH3. Wii and 360 for the same price, how could you lose with Halo 3 and Zelda: TP? :D
