... in Japan. It is now $410 for them.

In response to the fact that Sony now has a sliver of a chance of posing a threat to Microsoft's sales, the XBox 360 will soon have an external hi-def DVD player available in an attempt to rival Sony's ideas. The DVD thingy will be available in Japan Nov. 22.
Now how this will help anyone outside of Japan who doesn't import this stuff I don't know. o-O

(If this was already posted, sorry - I checked and didn't see anything on here about it yet.)

Yeah, that's exactly it. There's currently no reason for Sony to cut prices for everyone else. They were just worried about competing with Nintendo in Japan...

Sony also had the "oringinal idea" of putting the MegaDrive and Pcengine games availabe for download for their "original" virtual console.

Oh look, the games prices are 75-85 USD. I've got the urge to play another one bites the dust.

Sony never fails to surprise me. Surely after seeing the wave of reaction to the $600 price tag, they'd at least keep the games' prices what they are now. $80 is really high anyway you look at it. I can understand the occasional high-priced game. For example look at Donkey Kong 64. But $80 for every game? That's insane! How can Sony not look at this situation and not know how much they're hurting themselves? They must have total faith in their fanbase!

Are you planning on importing one from Japan? Because that was the only region that has seen a price cut. North America, Europe, and Australia are still set for their original prices. (Unless that was a witty, sarcastic remark that flew by my head just now... o-O )

Actually, I don't really have any plans to buy the PS3. I've never enjoyed their games much, and if I'm going to be exploring the XBOX 360 world for Banjo, why would I want a PS3? :p

I can see it now.....

Sony CEO: I think we need to drop the prices down everywhere....

Assistant: But sir, since we lost most of our systems to the virus, and a whole couple of others exploded, we'll never cut in America! In fact, we only have 400,000 systems going there. We will never be able to drop the prices down!

Planner: Well, why not Europe?

Assistant: Sir, you puched the release date back to 2007 over there.

Planner: ........How about only in Japan?

Assistant: That'll piss everyone off everywhere else. Tehy're already steamed about the price hike, and the shoddy manufacturing. That's it, I'm working for Microsoft....

Planner: Those consoles freeze!

Assistant: OK, then Nintendo!

Planer: Well, THOSE systems......they....uh.....CRAP!
